Opening Round

No. 1 Colts Neck 4, Freehold Twp. 0

Sophomore Sean Moore recorded his second hat trick of the season and the Cougars pulled away for a round-one win over the Patriots. Moore scored off a pass from junior C.J. Collins in the 35th minute and extended the lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute off a feed from older brother, Kyle Moore.

Senior Sam Gershon scored four minutes after Moore to make it 3-0 off the first of two assists from junior Ben Kazani, who set up Moore’s last goal in the 76th.

Colts Neck will host No. 2 Manalapan Friday in a showdown between the top two teams in the Shore Insider rankings with a spot in the SCT quarterfinals on the line.

Lacey 6, Ranney 1

Junior Tanner Grozinski assisted the first goal of each half and later scoring one to put the game out of reach as the Lions took care of the Panthers to earn a round-of-16 home game vs. Middletown South.

Senior Colin Hayes scored off cross from Grozinski 34 seconds into the match and after Lacey took a 2-1 lead into halftime, Grozinski found junior Aiden Schmitt for a header off a corner kick and a 3-1 Lacey lead 25 seconds into the second half. Grozinski then scored off a pass from freshman Paul Guerriro, who then capped the rout with two goals of his own.

Senior Aidan Fitzgerald extended Lacey’s lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute off a pass from junior Anthony Introna. Ranney answered with a goal by senior Saeed Torres in the 35th.

No. 10 Southern 4, Raritan 2

Senior Aidan Donnelly fired in a hat trick, including two goals in the second half to spark a come-from-behind win for the Rams over the Rockets.

Senior Kaan Zenger also scored a second-half goal and assited the first Donnelly goal for Southern, which erased a 2-1 halftime deficit.

After Donnelly gave Southern the early lead, senior Eion Davis pulled Raritan even with a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Raritan then grabbed the lead in the 20th minute, when junior Owen Brackett knocked in a cross from senior Carter Kelly.

Zenger scored the equalizer off a long pass from Donnelly into the box and Southern regained the lead in the 60th with a goal from Donnelly off a turnover in the back. Donnelly capped the hat trick with a far-post blast.

Southern advances for a rematch with Central Friday in the round of 16. Southern won the first meeting in overtime at Central on a golden goal by Donnelly.

No. 6 Manasquan 2, Jackson Memorial 1 (OT)

Senior Brandon Kunz scored off a through-ball from Cooper Daly two minutes into overtime and the Warriors bounced back from conceding the tying goal in the final seconds to eliminate the Jaguars.

Sophomore Logan Schlenk knocked in a corner kick from junior Rob Calamia with 29 seconds left in regulation to pull Jackson Memorial even. Manasquan took the first lead of the game in the 68th minute, when senior Braeden DeAngelis knocked in a rebound off a deflected shot by classmate Cristian Gonzalez.

Manasquan moves on to play a road game Friday at Toms River East in the SCT round of 16.

No. 8 St. John Vianney 2, Marlboro 2 – SJV advances on penalties, 4-1

Junior Mason Boles and senior Anthony Marano each scored a second-half goal and converted a kick in the penalty round, while junior Liam Steiner saved two Marlboro attempts during the shootout, leading the Lancers past the Mustangs and into Friday’s round of 16 at crosstown rival Holmdel.

Marano finished a cross from Boles to tie the game early in the second half and Boles turned and fired in the go-ahead goal from 10 yards out off a pass from senior Kyle DiMarco.

Marlboro tied the game in the 71st minute on a goal by senior Jake Langella, who also assisted Marlboro’s first-half goal by sophomore Alec Roberman.

DiMarco and junior Isaiah Boone followed Boles and Marano with conversions during the shootout. Steiner saved the second and third attempts by Marlboro and Boone completed the victory by burying his kick.

No. 2 Manalapan 2, Howell 1

Junior Ethan Lustig assisted goals by classmates Dan Altman and Eduardo Russo in the second half and the Braves held on to knock off the Rebels and set up a trip to play No. 1 Colts Neck in a 1-vs.-2 showdown in the SCT round of 16 Friday afternoon.

Lustig beat a host of Howell defenders to get off an on-target shot in the 58th minute, but Howell sophomore goalkeeper Brady Murphy parried it off the near-right post. The ball stayed near the goal-line and Altman raced to it to poke it in for the game’s first goal.

Manalapan stretched its lead to 2-0 in the 71st, when Lustig slipped a pass through the defense to Russo, who touched it toward the goal and blasted a finish from 10 yards out.

Howell created a tense final two minutes thanks to senior Nick Turturro, who scored from point-blank range off a cross from classmate Kam Brown with 2:15 to go.

Holmdel 2, Brick Memorial 1

Senior Stepan Kapranov scored two goals in the second half and the Hornets held off the Mustangs to reach the SCT round of 16 Friday, when Holmdel will host St. John Vianney.

Junior Alex Santos scored the lone goal for Brick Memorial.

Red Bank 3, Neptune 2

Senior Gavin McTighe scored the equalizer in the 58th minute and junior Alex Salvo followed with two goals four goals apart to seal a Bucs win over the Scarlet Fliers.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half and Neptune broke the deadlock in the 55th minute on a penalty kick by senior Julian Lemus.

McTighe answered off a pass from sophomore Brian Flores three minutes later and in the 66th, Salvo finished off a pass from senior Trey Cummings to catapult Red Bank into the lead. Salvo then scored in the 70th to push the Red Bank lead to stretch the lead to 3-1 before Giovanni Bedward trimmed the Neptune deficit back to one goal in the 76th minute.

Red Bank advances to play at Ocean in Friday’s round of 16.

No. 7 Middletown South 2, Point Boro 1

Juniors Gian Luca Zito and Jack Cohen each scored a goal in the first half and the Eagles held off the Panthers to advance to a round-of-16 game Friday at Lacey,

Sophomore Sean Hankins scored for Point Boro to make it a one-goal game.

Rumson-Fair Haven 2, Toms River South 1

Senior Luke D’Angelo headed in a flick from classmate Charlie Butters in the 28th minute and the Bulldogs struck for an own goal for some necessary insurance in the 67th to power a win over the Indians.

Toms River South forced an own goal in the 75th minute to close the gap, but Rumson closed out the win to set up a round-of-16 return trip to Toms River to play Toms River North.

Wall 2, Middletown North 1

Senior Robert Keegan converted a game-tying penalty kick in the 70th minute and assisted the game-winner by senior Jesus Chaves-Fernandez in the 74th, capping a come-from-behind win for the Crimson Knights over the Lions.

Middletown North struck first with a goal by senior Josiah Stepney in the 60th minute. Wall finally answered in the 70th, when Middletown North goalkeeper Connor Marinelli was called for a push near the goal, leading to Keegan’s penalty kick.

A hand ball gave Middletown North a penalty kick in the 73rd, but senior goalkeeper Tom Ekberg saved Stepney’s attempt with a diving stop to his right. One minute later, Chaves-Fernandez positioned himself on the near side of the 18-yard box and headed a pass from Keegan to the far right corner for the go-ahead goal.

Ekburg stifled Middletown North during the second half, saving a point-blank shot by Stepney in the 48th minute, a near-post shot by Stepney from inside the six-yard box in the 52nd and closing it out with a leaping save on an upper-90 blast in the 76th.

Wall moves on to face three-time defending champion CBA Friday in the SCT round of 16.
