No. 6 Manasquan 2, No. 5 Toms River East 1 (OT)
Senior Shayne Byrne scored the golden goal in the third minute of overtime off a pass from classmate Jorge Cruz Cruz to deliver the Warriors (10-4-1) a win over the Raiders (10-3-1) and a trip to the SCT quarterfinals Tuesday at Colts Neck.
Manasquan took the first lead on a goal by junior Cruz Farkas in the 14th minute, with senior Brandon Kunz setting him up for the finish. Toms River East countered with the equalizer in the 26th minute, when senior Luke Bodziak buried a 30-yard direct kick.
Byrne’s golden goal officially handed Toms River East’s its first loss in 10 games.
No. 1 Colts Neck 3, No. 2 Manalapan 0
Senior Kyle Moore scored a goal in each half and sophomore brother Sean Moore added one in the second, sparking the Cougars (14-0-1) to a win over the Braves (14-2-1) in a match that pitted the top two teams in the Shore Insider rankings in the round of 16.
Moore turned the tide in Colts Neck’s favor in the 20th minute, when he weaved through a collection of Manalapan defenders and slammed a 18-yard shot into the upper right corner of the goal.
Manalapan goalkeeper Chase Lee kept the deficit at 1-0 with a quick-reaction save on a near-post rip by Sean Moore in the 25th minute and the Braves made it to halftime trailing by a single goal.
In the third minute of the second half, Kyle Moore scored his second goal — this time on a header off a free kick by junior Ben Kazani. Lee stopped the ball with a dive to his right, but it was already over the goal-line.
Two minutes later, Moore took a pass from classmate Pedro Navroski and hammered it inside the near-right post from 10 yards out.
Manalapan had a chance to break up the shutout with a penalty kick in the 74th minute, but Cougars goalkeeper Justin Appel stopped it to nail down the clean sheet.
Colts Neck will continue its SCT run in Tuesday’s quarterfinals against Manasquan — the third rematch the Cougars will play to open the SCT.
No. 9 Ocean 4, Red Bank 3
Junior Lucas Renvoize scored two equalizers, junior Niall Tantrum scored the go-ahead goal and sophomore Connor Shaw scored the game-winner as the the Spartans (11-3-1) scored four times in the second half to win a wild, back-and-forth game over the Bucs (11-6) to earn a trip to the SCT semifinals Tuesday against Rumson-Fair Haven.
Renvoize headed in a corner kick by senior Noor Eraky to tie the game at 1-1 in the 45th minute, but Red Bank came right back with a goal by senior Trey Cummings in the 48th off a pass from classmate Jason Monge for a 2-1 lead.
Ocean swung back in the 54th, when Shaw crossed the ball to the middle of the box for Renvoize, who turned and buried his second goal of the game. Two minutes later, Tantrum worked a give-and-go with senior Zach Sutton and hit a shot from beyond the edge 18-yard box for a 3-2 Spartans lead.
Shaw capped the Ocean scoring in the 71st minute by beating three defenders and ripping a far-post shot from the top of the box on the left side.
Red Bank grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior Alex Salvo off a cross from sophomore Brian Flores in the 17th minute. The Bucs also capped the scoring with a goal by junior Augustine Kowalczyk in the 74th minute.
Holmdel 3, No. 8 St. John Vianney 1
Senior Stepan Kapranov assisted first-half goals by classmate Kieran Hynes and junior Nate Koenig, then scored one in the second half as the Hornets (8-5-1) upended the Lancers (9-4-1) to reach the SCT quarterfinals at CBA on Tuesday.
Hynes opened the scoring in the 18th minute by heading in a cross from Kapranov. In the 38th, Kapranov slid a well-timed through-ball to Koenig, who ripped it inside the near-right post for a 2-0 Holmdel lead just before halftime.
St. John Vianney cut its deficit in half in the 51st minute, when senior Anthony Marano finished off a touch from junior Mason Boles following a cross from senior Kyle DiMarco.
Early in the 76th minute, Kapranov worked a short corner with Hynes, dribbled it to the top of the 18-yard box on the left side and curled a shot into the goal for a 3-1 Hornets lead.
Central 2, No. 10 Southern 0
Central broke through with a penalty kick by junior Landon Kavanagh in the 58th minute and senior Jordan Benzon added an insurance goal to lead the Golden Eagles (9-4) to a win over the Rams (10-5-1).
A hand ball inside the box set up the penalty kick by Kavanagh just before the midway point of the second half. In the 70th minute, senior Dillon Konfederak slipped a pass through to Benzon, who finished Central’s second goal.
Lacey 2, No. 7 Middletown South 2 – Lacey advances on penalties, 3-1
Junior Tanner Grozinski contributed to two goals to tie the game in the second half and sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Graham saved two penalties in the shootout after a standout second half, sparking the Lions (11-4-1) to a come-from-behind win over the Eagles (8-5-4) on penalties.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Grozinski got Lacey on the board with a goal in the 53rd minute, then assisted the equalizer by classmate Aiden Schmitt in the 60th.
Seniors Aiden Fitzgerald, Dan Cardenas and Jack Considine converted their penalty attempts during the shootout and Graham saved two Middletown South attempts.
Senior Brendan Millevoi and junior Jack Cohen scored the two first-half goals to stake Middletown South to a two-goal lead heading to the break.
Lacey will host Central Tuesday in the SCT quarterfinals.
Rumson-Fair Haven 5, No. 4 Toms River North 1
Senior Charlie Butters scored two goals to blow the game open and the Bulldogs (9-6-1) routed the Mariners (9-6-1) on the road to earn a trip to the SCT quarterfinals Tuesday at Ocean.
Rumson scored five unanswered goals after Toms River North jumped on top with a goal by junior Brady Gillman in the sixth minute, which came off a long throw-in.
Senior Luke D’Angelo got the goal back for Rumson in the 21st when he drew a takedown in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick.
Junior Jack Duffy pushed Rumson in front with a goal in the 28th — his first varsity goal. D’Angelo set that goal up as well, crossing the ball to the front of the net, where Duffy tapped it in for the game-winner.
Butters then provided the insurance, starting with the first of his two goals in the 28th minute, then again in the 64th for a 4-1 lead. Junior Patrick Huber capped the scoring with header in the 80th minute for his first goal of the season.
No. 3 CBA 1, Wall 0
Junior Ryan Asadi broke a scoreless deadlock with a goal in the 54th minute and the Colts (13-4) held on to top the Crimson Knights (10-7-1) and reach the SCT quarterfinals Tuesday against Holmdel at Dan Keane Field.
Senior Phil Bodenski slipped a pass in to Asadi for the finish in the 54th minute after the Colts had been turned away to that point by Wall goalkeeper Tom Ekberg and the Wall defense.
Consolation
Ranney 2, Point Boro 2
Senior Saeed Torres scored two goals in the second half to help Ranney erase a 2-0 halftime deficit, earning the Panthers a draw with Point Boro.
Raritan 2, Neptune 2
Julian Lemus and Mason Imbriaco each scored a goal to help the Scarlet Fliers earn a draw vs. Raritan. Junior Owen Brackett scored one Raritan goal and assisted the other by senior Eion Davis.
Middletown North 4, Brick Memorial 0
Senior Josiah Stepney recorded a hat trick and assisted a goal by junior Paul Que to lead the Lions to a win over the Mustangs. Que also assisted one of the goals by Stepney.
Howell 3, Toms River South 1
Senior Tyler Borenstein assisted a goal by classmate Nick Turturro in the first minute of the second half and scored one for himself two minutes later, leading the Rebels to a win over the Indians.
Howell added an own goal in the 60th minute and senior Anthony Johnson broke up the shutout in the 79th with Toms River South’s lone goal.
Shore Conference Coaches Cup
First Round
(1) Shore 5, (16) Donovan Catholic 3
Senior Jadyn DeRosa posted two goals and two assists and freshman Bryan Barbosa also scored a pair of goals as the Blue Devils outscored the Griffins to advance to the Coaches Cup quarterfinals against Brick. Sophomore Silvio Pessoa also posted a goal and an assist for Shore.
Max Durazzo, Sal Reynoso and Dan Zaic scored the three Donovan Catholic goals.
(5) Lakewood 2, (12) Red Bank Catholic 1
Rafael Salazar and William Alejo both scored late in the first half to help the Piners erase a one-goal deficit and beat the Caseys, earning Lakewood a Coaches Cup quarterfinal match at Barnegat next week. Jack Denver opened the scoring for Red Bank Catholic.
(4) Barnegat 4, (13) Jackson Liberty 1
Nate Scisco assited goals by Joe Ficorili and Leo Chamorro and Ethan Yllanes scored two goals for insurance as the Bengals beat the Lions to secure a spot in the Coaches Cup quarterfinals vs. Lakewood.
