Quarterfinals

Junior Sean Moore scored a goal in each half and the Cougars (13-1) rolled through the Spartans (11-5) and into the SCT semifinals for the second straight season. Colts Neck will continue its SCT title defense against No. 14 Freehold Township Wednesday at Memorial Field in Neptune.

Moore opened the scoring in the sixth minute by slamming in a penalty kick after a foul in the box and later extended the lead to 3-0 with a finish in the 64th on a shot from a difficult angle on the left side of the field. Kazani also set up Moore for that goal after his corner kick started the second scoring sequence.

Senior C.J. Collins extended Colts Neck’s lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute by knocking the ball in out of a scrum in the box following a corner kick by senior Ben Kazani. Senior Dillon Younger headed the service to the ground and Collins pounced on it for the finish.

Junior Jonah Chiang capped the scoring with a goal in the 70th minute.

(14) Freehold Twp. 1, (6) Manalapan 0

Senior Alex Rivera broke through with the game’s lone goal on a header in the 72nd minute and the Patriots (11-5-1) held on to knock off the Braves (8-4-3), sending Freehold Township to the SCT semifinals for the first time since winning the tournament in 2019.

With scoring chances hard to come by for both teams, Rivera cashed in on his chance in the final 10 minutes, with senior Caine Massey finding him for the finish. Massey dribbled out of a crowd on the left side and served the ball to the middle of the box, where Rivera beat his defender and Manalapan goalkeeper Chase Lee to the spot and head the ball into the goal.

Fifteen minutes early, senior Gino Castaneda’s free kick from just outside the 18-yard box on the right side nearly slipped through for the ice-breaker, but Manalapan senior defender Patrick Hearn cleared the ball away from the goal-line just before it crossed over.

Sophomore goalkeeper Giuseppe Romano saved five shots to secure his second consecutive clean sheet in the tournament.

(1) CBA 3, (9) Toms River East 0

Senior James Brady assisted junior John Little’s game-winner in the 33rd minute and added an insurance goal midway through the second half to spark the Colts (13-1-4) to a win over the Raiders (13-5), sending them to the SCT semifinals for the seventh straight time.

In the 33rd minute, Brady flicked a cross to the middle of the box and Little made the run to complete the finish with his head, giving the Colts a 1-0 lead.

Exactly two weeks after beating Toms River East in the group stage on a 95th-minute golden goal to clinch a the No. 1 seed in the SCT, CBA made sure to avoid overtime by scoring the next two goals. Brady extended the lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute, when he followed up his own initial miss by volleying in the rebound.

Senior Ryan Asadi capped the scoring in the 73rd minute and CBA secured its spot in the semifinals at Neptune’s Memorial Field against No. 4 Middletown South.

(4) Middletown South 1, (12) Marlboro 0

Junior Connor Saul scored the game’s lone goal in the 15th minute and senior goalkeeper Carson Perry combined with the Middletown South defense to record their sixth straight shutout as the Eagles (10-3-1) edged the Mustangs (6-4-4) to advance to the SCT semifinals for the first time since 2012.

Senior Mason Petke set up the goal, angling toward the heart of the field before playing Saul open with a through-ball. Saul collected the pass and slipped it past Marlboro goalkeeper Kosta Mastrokalos.

Middletown South advances to face top-seeded CBA in Wednesday’s SCT semifinals, with the two Middletown-based schools scheduled for a 6:30 kick-off at Memorial Field in Neptune.

 

Consolation Round

(5) Holmdel 2, (11) Manasquan 1

Turner Foster and Nate Koenig each buried shots from beyond the top of the 18-yard box during the first half and the Hornets held on to top the Warriors. Cruz Farkas got Manasquan on the board with a goal in the second half.

(7) Southern 2, (8) Rumson-Fair Haven 1

Senior Tyler Houghton scored both Southern goals and the Rams pulled out a win over the Bulldogs, who got on the board with a goal by Zack Halpern off a pass from Bobby Quaglia in the second half.

(3) Toms River South 4, (13) Lacey 0

Owen Beneciuk scored two goals and fellow senior Shane Gambarony converted two penalty kicks to lead an Indians rout of the Raiders. Jacob Myers played a key role in setting up two of the goals — first by drawing a foul inside the 18-yard box to set up the second Gambarony penalty kick and then by assisting Beneciuk’s second goal.

(17) Point Boro 0, (18) Brick 0

Despite playing a man down for more than 70 minutes due to a hand-ball red card, the Panthers salvaged a draw against the Green Dragons.

(14) Long Branch 2, (19) Brick Memorial 1

Marco Volpe scored the game-winning goal in the second half and the Green Wave fought past the Mustangs for the second time this season. Ricardo Potillo opened the Long Branch scoring with a finish off a pass from Chris De Oliveira.

 

Shore Conference Coaches Cup

Quarterfinals

(1) Shore 3, (8) Asbury Park 0

Senior Cooper Attaway recorded his second hat trick of the season and the Blue Devils blanked the Blue Bishops to advance to the Coaches Cup semifinals Wednesday against No. 4 Freehold Boro.

(6) Jackson 2, (3) Wall 1 (5-3 on penalties)

Junior goalkeeper Logan Schlenk saved 15 shots during the 100 minutes of field time and made a crucial save during the round of penalties to help the Jaguars close out a road win over the Crimson Knights. Wall took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a first-half goal by senior Christian Garduza off a pass from senior Evan Ker. Jackson finally countered in the 67th on a goal by senior Anthony Castellano, with senior Tristan Nikitin assisting the equalizer.

(4) Freehold Boro 4, (5) Point Beach 2

Four different Freehold Boro players scored a goal after halftime to help the Colonials rally back to beat the Garnet Gulls. Senior Joe Haney scored to tie the game, followed by a goals by Ryan Dominguez, Humberto Hernandez and Ryan Alemeida.

Junior Brody Powers scored both goals for Point Beach.

(2) Toms River North 4, (7) Howell 0

Josh Nagle scored the first of four goals by four different players by the Mariners to advance past the Rebels and into the Coaches Cup semifinals Monday against No. 6 Jackson. Chris Ruggiero, Matt Schwenker and Josh Girtain each added a goal for Toms River North.
