CBA 6, Southern 5 (OT)

Freshman midfielder Chase Grimando scored the game-tying goal off an assist from sophomore attackman Turner Cooke with two seconds left in regulation, then senior midfielder Davis Campbell delivered the game-winning goal off a pass from freshman attackman Jackson Chaney 1:15 into overtime as the Colts (9-5, 4-1) pulled out a heart-pounding victory over the Rams (5-4, 2-4).

The game was tied 2-2 at halftime after CBA used first-quarter goals by junior attackman Caden Lucich and freshman midfielder Danny Varone to take a 2-0 lead before Southern answered in the second quarter. The Rams cut it to 2-1 on a goal by sophomore attackman Shea O’Donnell at 7:45 of the second quarter and tied the game when senior midfielder Liam Bates beat the buzzer on a goal with one second left in the first half.

Southern controlled the third quarter on a trio of goals by O’Donnell to take a 5-3 lead into the fourth quarter. CBA pulled within a goal when sophomore Christian Fox scored 34 seconds into the final period, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Senior goalie Luke Phillips and junior goalie Shayne Boresen split time in goal for CBA with each making four saves. Senior goalie AJ Mattern made 16 saves and senior Collin Markoski won 8 of 15 face-offs for Southern.

 

Colonial Division

Donovan Catholic 6, Jackson Memorial 5

Senior midfielder Lucas Bova scored twice and freshman midfielder Jaykeb Porbansky had a goal and two assists as the Griffins (2-6, 2-4) edged the Jaguars (0-9, 0-6).

Senior attackman Jake Kerwin, junior attackman David Wentworth and freshman midfielder Gavin Senger had one goal each and sophomore Jack McAteer won 6 of 11 face-offs.

 

Howell 15, Point Boro 4

The Rebels (9-1, 6-1) pulled away from the Panthers (6-4, 2-3) behind hat tricks from seniors Jayden Devino and Vincent Meehan and junior Mike Kelly. Devino and Meehan both tallied 2 assists in addition to their 3 goals. Junior Cole Reinsdorf added 2 goals.

 

Middletown South 14, Red Bank Catholic 9

Luke Gaffney scored five goals and dished out two assists when the Eagles (6-5, 5-2) controlled the second half to pull away from the Caseys (1-12, 0-9) and earn a division victory.

Middletown South outscored RBC 9-3 in the second half after trailing 6-5 at halftime. Ryan Colacichi, Jackson O’Keefe and Joe Sarci all had four-point games with Colacichi scoring four goals, O’Keefe tallying two goals and two assists and Sarci notching a goal and three assists. Leo Abate added two goals and one assist and senior goalie Matt Mason made eight saves. Middletown South dominated the face-off X with Ian McQuillan and Kenny Rodriguez each going 12-for-13 and picking up eight ground balls.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Bickerton had three goals plus one assist, senior attackman Leo Cosimano recorded a hat trick, and freshman goalie Wyatt Curley made 18 saves for Red Bank Catholic. Sophomore attackman Logan Josko scored twice, sophomore midfielder Joe Egan scored once and sophomore midfielder Jack Denver distributed two assists.

 

Toms River East 17, Middletown North 5

Senior midfielder Nate Cummings, junior attackman Nicholas Caruso and sophomore attackman Gerard Uzzolino combined for 17 goals and 26 points as the Raiders (8-1, 6-0) continued the best season in program history with another dominant division win.

Uzzolino recorded a career-high 11 points with six goals and five assists. Cummings also scored six goals and sent out two assists, while Caruso tallied five goals and two assists. Tyler Godlesky chipped in with one assist.

 

Constitution Division

Barnegat 18, Ocean 2

Senior midfielder Luke Torticici scored five goals and sent out two assists to become the first player in program history with 200 career points as the Bengals (10-1, 6-0) ran past the Spartans (5-4, 3-3) to move one step closer to their first division title.

Tortorici has 94 goals and 110 assists for 204 points, a number he has reached despite playing in just three games last season.

Junior midfielder Keagan Dunn also had a big game with four goals and two assists while senior Jakob Jason scored four goals and assisted on another. Senior midfielder Bailey Carroll added two goals and one assist. Senior attackman Jason McHale and senior midfielder Stephen Griffin had a goal and an assist each, junior Codey Shafery scored once and junior FOGO Eric Connors won 15 of 21 face-offs. Junior goalie DJ Swierk made six saves.

Junior attackman Jack Varley scored both goals for Ocean.

 

Freehold Township 13, St. John Vianney 3

Senior Brenden Carfagno scored 4 goals and distributed 2 assists while senior Ryan Rowohlt added 3 goals and 2 assists to guide the Patriots (5-5, 5-1) to a victory over the Lancers (2-8, 1-6). Junior Andrew Dalton tallied a career-high 6 assists. Senior goalie Junior Alvarado recorded 9 saves in the win.

 

Toms River South 12, Jackson Liberty 1

 

Freedom Division

Toms River North 3, Central 2

Senior goalie Charlie Machamer turned back 9 shots to lead the Mariners (6-4, 5-0) past the Golden Eagles (6-2, 4-2). Senior Robert Wingender scored a goal and tallied an assist while senior Ben Misa and Michael Facchinni both added 1 goal.

 

Neptune 9, Long Branch 5

Sophomore Hunter Reynolds erupted for 6 goals and 1 assist as the Scarlet Fliers (4-6, 2-5) defeated the Green Wave (2-8, 1-5). Junior Joe Cooper added a goal and an assist. Junior Elijah Tyler and sophomore Christopher Hankins both scored a goal. Sophomore Christian Loff recorded 13 saves in the win for the Scarlet Fliers.

 

Nondivisional

Holmdel 12, Manalapan 11 (OT)

Freshman midfielder Anthony Serini scored the game-winning goal in overtime to complete a hat trick and senior face-off specialist Jack Powers made state history when the Hornets (4-6) outlasted the Braves (6-5) in a thriller.

Powers won 17 of 27 face-offs to increase his all-time state record for face-off wins while becoming the first New Jersey high school lacrosse player to win 1,000 face-offs. A four-year starter, Powers has 1,011 career face-off wins with a 69 percent win rate.

Serini, senior attackman Brian Volpe and sophomore attackman David Perrotti each scored three times to lead Holmdel. Perrotti added an assist for a team-high four points. Junior defenseman Marcus Cermele and sophomore midfielder Joey Marino each tallied one goal and two assists, and senior attackman Dylan Lee scored once. Junior goalie Jack Tiller made nine saves.

Manalapan senior midfielder Matt Avivi scored five goals for the second straight game to reach the 100-career-point milestone. Eli Greenberg added two goals and one assist, Jake Schatz scored twice, and Cooper Savage and Anthony Tufte had a goal and two assists each for the Braves. Junior goalie Connor Doel made 14 saves.

 

Colts Neck 15, Brick 1

Senior Jayden Molina scored 5 goals and distributed an assist to steer the Cougars (3-8, 2-4) in a rout against the Dragons (1-9, 1-3).

Marlboro 17, Union Catholic 15

Senior attackman Tyler Gellis exploded for a career-high eight goals and one assist to lead the Mustangs (7-3) to a wild win over the Vikings (2-5).

Senior midfielder Andrew Silvia scored four goals, dished out two assists and picked up 11 ground balls, while senior attackman Sam Shapiro tallied three goals and two assists. Braden Dupey and AJ Muhlbach each scored once and Mason Trombetta contributed two assists. Brayden Gallo made 13 saves.
