Freehold Township 1, Point Boro 0

Senior Gaby Parker headed in a pass from senior Kayla Sciortino with six seconds left in the first half and senior goalkeeper Ashley Moore made six saves as the Patriots (12-6) edged the Panthers (13-2-2) to win their third SCT championship in the last four years.

Parker’s 26th goal of the season also set a program single-season record.

Point Boro 1, Howell 0 (2OT) – Game Story

Senior Gabby Mellet scored off a free kick by senior Abby Hannemann with 8:13 left in the second overtime period to send the Panthers (13-1-2) to a dramatic victory over the Rebels (12-5) to advance to their first SCT final since 1989.

Freehold Township 2, Middletown South 0

Senior Gaby Parker scored her 24th and 25th goals of the season and senior goalkeeper Ashley Moore made five saves as the Patriots (10-6) dethroned the defending SCT champion Eagles (13-3-1) to return to the semifinals.

Middletown South had defeated Freehold Township during the regular season, 2-1.

Christiana Celano and Danielle Howard had one assist each for the Patriots.

Julianna Fiore made eight saves for Middletown South.

Freehold Township will play Lacey in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Neptune Memorial Athletic Complex at Summerfield Elementary School.

 

Lacey 3, Manalapan 2 (2OT)

Senior midfielder Mackenzie Brotherston delivered another clutch performance with a hat trick, including the game-winning goal in the second overtime period, to lift the Lions (16-1-1) to a dramatic home victory over the Braves (10-8-1) to punch their ticket to the SCT final four.

Brotehrstron scored in the 9th minute and in the 33nd minute – both off assists from senior forward Natalie McGovern – to give Lacey a 2-0 lead. Manalapan got on the board just before halftime on a goal by sophomore Kayla Sasso and then tied the game in the 77th minute on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Danielle Butash. Three minutes into the second overtime period, Brotherstron completed her hat trick off a pass from senior midfielder Reece Paget to send Lacey to the semifinals.

Junor goalkeeper Ava Schmidt was outstanding with 16 saves for Lacey.

Aryanna Lake made eight saves for Manalapan.

Lacey will play Freehold Township in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Neptune Memorial Athletic Complex at Summerfield Elementary School.

 

Point Boro 4, Toms River North 0

Freshman midfielder Maddie Renna delivered a hat trick and one assist and senior keeper Ava Bjorndahl made three saves to backstop another suffocating defensive performance that sent the Panthers (12-1-2) to a dominant win over the Mariners (10-6-1) to book a trip to the SCT semifinals.

Elise Viggiano added one goal and Kayden Cilento, Lily Scalabrini and Gabby Mellet had one assist each. Point Boro led 3-0 at halftime.

Lena Salvaggione made eight saves for Toms River North.

Point Boro will play Howell in the semifinals on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Neptune Memorial Athletic Complex at Summerfield Elementary School.

 

Howell 3, Ocean 1

Sophomore forward Makenzie Memmolo scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Rebels (12-4) stopped the Spartans (7-9-1) to return to the SCT semifinals.

Memmolo gave Howell a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute off a pass from Madelyn Roberto and senior midfielder Allie Nase made it 2-0 off a pass from Memmolo in the 17th minute. Ocean cut Howell’s lead in half on a goal by Isabella Santucci in the 35th minute but the Rebels regained their two-goal cushion early in the second half when Ashley Smith converted a pass form Memmolo in the 45th minute.

Howell will play Point Boro in the semifinals on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Neptune Memorial Athletic Complex at Summerfield Elementary School.

 

 

Round of 16 – Preview & Predictions

Thursday, Oct. 17

Middletown South 2, Brick Memorial 1 (2OT)

Junior outside back Julia Prettitore scored the golden goal off a cross from senior outside back Izzy Dyas midway through the second overtime period to send the defending SCT champion Eagles (13-2-1) to a dramatic victory over the Mustangs (6-7-1).

Brick Memorial struck first when senior forward Maggie Allen scored off a pass from senior midfielder Brooke DeAlmeida in the sixth minute. Middletown South knotted the score in the 33rd minute when senior forward Natalie Percello knocked in a loose ball off a free kick.

Middletown South will face Freehold Township in the quarterfinals.

Makenzie Memmolo and Ashley Smith scored one goal each in the second half and Leila Shaw made nine saves as the Rebels (11-4) shut out the Bulldogs (10-5) to advance to the SCT quarterfinals.

 

Ocean 0, Marlboro 0

-Ocean wins 4-3 in PKs

Junior goalkeeper Grace Fuller made a save on Marlboro’s first penalty kick and sophomore Erin Toppi delivered the clinching strike in the fourth round as the Spartans (7-7-1) outlasted the Mustangs (5-8) to continue their Cinderella run and advance to the SCT quarterfinals.

 

 

First Round – Preview and Predictions

Tuesday, Oct. 15

Middletown South 1, Wall 0

Freshman Riley Kapler scored on a left-footed strike from 18 yards out with 7:46 left in regulation to lift the defending SCT champion Eagles to a dramatic victory over the Crimson Knights in a first-round matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the Shore.

Middletown South will play at Group A winner Brick Memorial on Thursday in the second round.

 

Freehold Township 9, Matawan 0

Senior Gabby Parker delivered four goals while Dani Howard and Sophia Tonino had a goal and two assists each to power the Patriots to a dominant victory over the Huskies. Freehold Township will host Toms River South on Thursday in the Round of 16.

 

Toms River South 4, Shore 0

Keira Mulvihill had a goal and an assist and a stout Indians defense held the Blue Devils to just two shots on goal in a shutout victory to advance to the second round. Alexia Cecere, Maddie Krohn and Jaelyn Mayne each scored once, and Hannah Puglisi and Reese Lindemann made one save each to combine for a clean sheet.

Toms River South will travel to Freehold Township on Thursday in the Round of 16.

Maddie Renna scored a brace and added one assist and Abby Hannemann tallied a goal and two assists to send the Panthers past the Falcons and into the second round. Elise Viggiano and Gabby Mellet added a goal and an assist each while Ava Bjorndahl and Stella Stevenson made two saves each.

Jenna Chlapowski scored once and Amaya Harris made 12 saves for Monmouth.

Point Boro will host Red Bank Catholic on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Round of 16.

Senior midfielder Allie Nase converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute for the game’s only goal and Leila Shaw made four saves as the Rebels blanked the Lions to advance to the second round. Howell will play at Rumson-Fair Haven in the Round of 16.

 

Marlboro 1, Manasquan 1

-Marlboro wins 5-4 on penalty kicks

Marlboro’s Samantha Arntz scored off an assist from Brooke Gordon in the first half before Manasquan answered when Jordyn Hollawell scored off a pass from Samantha Price in the second half, and the Mustangs drained all five of their penalty kicks to defeat the Warriors and advance to the SCT Round of 16.

Manasquan’s first shot of penalty kicks went off the crossbar. Jordyn Bauer made 15 saves for Marlboro while Gia Restivo made nine saves for Manasquan.

Marlboro will play at Ocean on Thursday in the Round of 16 after the Spartans upset Toms River East, 1-0.

 

Ocean 1, Toms River East 0

Sophomore Mia Fiorentino scored with 15 seconds left in regulation off an assist from senior Kaia Abbatiello as the Spartans stunned the Raiders to advance to the second round of the SCT. Ocean will host Marlboro on Thursday in the Round of 16.
