(12) Monmouth 4, (18) St. John Vianney 3 (8 Innings)

Eddie Segarra singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to give himself the win on the mound and send the Falcons past the Lancers to advance in the Ted Jarmusz Bracket of the Monmouth County Tournament.

Mike McCormack blasted a tie-breaking two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put St. John Vianney on top. In the bottom of the inning, Monmouth loaded the bases with two out on a single by Collin Denton, a dropped fly ball, a fielder’s choice ground out and a walk by Hunter Oksen. Donovan Hicks then delivered a a game-tying two-run single and both Hicks and Oksen moved up a base on the throw home.

Segarra then hit a ground ball to the right side and outran the infielders to hit the bag and allow Oksen to score the winning run.

No. 6 Brick Memorial 8, No. 10 Jackson Memorial 2

Brick Memorial’s sixth-through-ninth hitters combined for six RBI and sophomore left-hander Zach Pirnik kept the Jaguars at bay for 6 1/3 innings to lead the Mustangs past Jackson Memorial, clinching their first ever outright Class A South division championship and first outright division title of any kind since 1996.

No. 9 hitter Gavin McCue gave Brick Memorial a 2-1 lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning and centerfielder and No. 6 hitter Jimi Popp hit an RBI single in the third and an two-run single in Brick Memorial’s four-run fifth inning. Second baseman and No. 8 hitter Dan Popovitch also added an RBI single in the fifth to stretch Brick Memorial’s lead to 7-1 and the Mustangs added the fourth run of the inning on a two-out throwing error.

The heart of Brick Memorial’s lineup also got in on the action in the third inning, when No. 3 hitter Dan Golembiewski and third baseman Brayden Nalducci roped back-to-back doubles with one out, with Nalducci driving in Golembiewski.

Pirnik surrendered a first-inning run when sophomore Charlie Buchinsky led off with a single, took second on a passed ball, third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI ground out by Brady Wendell.

Wall 5, No. 5 Toms River East 4

Wall scored the tying run in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch and took the lead on a balk that scored freshman Jackson Soos from third later in the frame, giving the Crimson Knights a come-from-behind win over the Raiders.

Chris Knight gave Wall a 3-2 lead with a two-run single in the top of the third inning after Matt Ferrara created a pair of Toms River East runs in the first. Ferrara singled home a run, stole both second and third and scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. Ferrara also plated the tying run with an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fifth and Toms River East regained the lead, 4-3, on an RBI single by freshman Carson Frazier with two out in the sixth.

Wall set up its winning rally in the seventh with a leadoff walk by Davis Harr, a single by Soos and a sacrifice bunt by Austin Harr. With runners on first and third and two out, Wall activated a double-steal to force the balk and give Soos home plate.
