Toms River East 8, Toms River South 7

Lucas Melton capped a four-RBI night with a two-out, game-winning, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh and the Raiders stormed back from a 7-2 deficit in the final two innings to stun the rival Indians on their final at-bat.

Melton swung Toms River East back into the game with a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut Toms River South’s lead to 7-4. In both the sixth and seventh innings, an Indians error helped Toms River East’s inning. As a result, all six runs allowed by losing pitcher Christian Mascaro were unearned.

Toms River East loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh with Toms River South still leading, 7-4. Mike Vaccarino cut into the lead with an RBI infield single to score Joe DiMeo and move each runner up one base, making the score 7-5. Carson Frazer then walked on four pitches to force in another run, pulling the Raiders within 7-6.

Melton the stepped in and smacked an opposite-field shot through the left side to chase home both Dan Nafziger and Vaccarino with the tying and winning runs.

Toms River South turned a 2-2 game into a 7-2 lead with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jaden Geremia, Mascaro and Brett Ranking hit consecutive RBI singles to make it 5-2. After Toms River East recorded two outs on a line-out double-play, Ben McEwan slammed an RBI triple and Ruben Febres drove him in with an RBI single to finish off the rally.

Geremia also doubled home a run in the third, with Mascaro hitting a game-tying RBI single in the top of the third.

Toms River East opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by Gavin Toth, followed by an RBI single by Nafziger to put the Raiders ahead, 2-0.
