(4) Brick Memorial 2, (1) CBA 1
Sophomore left-hander Zach Pirnik allowed a first-inning RBI double to Dan Tsimbinos, then shut down CBA for the next five innings to nail down the win for the Mustangs over the top-seeded Colts, sending Brick Memorial to its first Shore Conference Tournament final since 1990.
After CBA grabbed the early 1-0 lead, Brick Memorial’s lineup backed up Pirnik with a two-run response in the top of the second. Senior Brayden Nalducci worked a seven-pitch walk to leadoff the inning and centerfielder Jimi Popp bunted his way on before junior Brody Moore sacrificed both runners up one base.
Sophomore Mike Figner then ripped a one-hop shot to third base, where CBA third baseman Dan Russo knocked the ball down, but could not pick it up in time to tag out Popp racing into third with a slide. Nalducci scored on the play and Figner reached with a game-tying RBI single. Senior Luke Douglas then rolled a ground ball to the left side of the infield to score Popp with what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Pirnik made the two runs hold up by routinely working into and out of trouble over his next five innings of work. He stranded a runner on second with two out in the second, runners on second and third with one out in the third, a runner on second with one out in the fourth, a runner on second with none out in the fifth and a runner on second with two out in the sixth.
In the bottom of the fourth, CBA centerfielder Will Fahey ripped a hard ground ball toward shortstop that Mustangs junior Tyler Garbooshian fielded despite being screened by the baserunner at second, A.J. Fiore. Garbooshian’s throw to first was not in time to get Fahey, but his effort keeping the ball on the infield prevented Fiore from scoring and allowed Pirnik to get out of the inning with a strikeout one batter later.

In the fifth, Pirnik walked Tsimbinos to lead off and Ryan Wetmore with one out before getting out of the inning with a fielder’s choice ground ball that Garbooshian flipped to third base for the force out, followed by an inning-ending fly-out to Popp in centerfield.
Fahey picked up his third hit of the game with two out in the sixth and stole second base, but Pirnik finished his outing by inducing a ground out to Garbooshian at shortstop. Garbooshian capped a stellar defensive inning for the Mustangs, with Figner making a sliding catch in shallow rightfield for the first out and first baseman Dan Golembiewski stopping an unpredictable hop with his chest for the second out.
Junior left-hander Danny DiTullio also kept Brick Memorial off the board from innings three through six before senior right-hander Shane Langan took over for the seventh.
Nalducci took the ball for the bottom of the seventh and retired the Colts in order, capped by a strikeout looking to end the game.

Charlie Stumberger kicked off the scoring with an RBI single in the first and catcher Aiden Funk drove in runs in each of RBC’s two four-run innings as the Caseys cruised past the Jaguars and into the SCT championship game for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
Stumberger knocked in Dylan Passo with a single in the first and RBC went up, 2-0, in the bottom of the second when A.J. Sciametta tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
The Caseys stretched the lead to 6-0 with a four-run fourth thanks to back-to-back RBI singles by Funk and Jake Frankel, then a RBI double by Luke Lonczak.
Charlie Buchinsky got Jackson Memorial on the board with an RBI single in the top of the fifth, but RBC came right back with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Passo knocked in a run with a single and Funk capped the second four-run rally with a two-run single to make it 10-1.
Junior right-hander Glen Popes gave up one unearned run over five innings before turning the ball over to Sam French for a perfect pair of innings to close it out.
Red Bank Catholic will go for its fifth Shore Conference Tournament title in the last six seasons after its run of four consecutive titles ended last year with a loss to CBA in the semifinal round. The Caseys have outscored their three opponents during this year’s SCT by a cumulative score of 30-3.
