Quarterfinals
(4) Ranney 5, (5) Middletown North 2
Shortstop Ricky Lopez crushed two homers and drove in four runs within the first two innings and the Panthers held on to top the Lions behind a big day from its shortstop and solid pitching by Justin Kauffman and Noah Hynes.
Lopez staked Ranney to a 1-0 lead with a solo blast to leftfield in the bottom of the first, then launched a three-run blast well beyond the fence in centerfield for a 4-0 Panthers advantage. Lopez walked in his third plate appearance and doubled in his final at-bat to complete a 3-for-3 game, although Ranney could not bring him around to score in either of his final two times on base.
Ryan Clark drove in the first of his two RBI with an RBI single in the top of the fifth to get Middletown North on the board vs. Kauffman, but Robbie Wrobel counted with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to put Ranney back up, 5-1.
In the top of the seventh, Kauffman issued his only two walks of the game to lead off the inning, prompting Ranney to turn to Hynes for the save chance. An error loaded the bases with none out for Middletown North and Clark pushed a run home with a ground out to first base. Hynes hit Dan Sigler to load the bases and bring the go-ahead run to the plate in the form of Gabe Ahlemeyer. The Lions senior and left-handed hitter hit a smash to the left side, but Panthers third baseman Andrew Parisi caught it in the air and tagged third for the game-ending double-play.
Ranney will face the winner of Tuesday’s MCT quarterfinal between No. 1 Christian Brothers Academy and No. 8 Raritan in next weekend’s MCT semifinal round.

Colts Neck hit three run-scoring doubles in a four-run first inning and Joe Pignatelli broke the game open with a three-run home run in the third to back starting pitching Nick Hayden in the Cougars’ MCT quarterfinal rout of the Warriors.
Dan Annunziata and Ryan Rude hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning to kick off the scoring and Ronan Kiely capped the first-inning outburst with a two-run double. After Kiley’s second double placed runners on second and third with none out in the bottom of the third, Pignatelli launched his three-run homer to center, giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
Jack Dugo singled home a fourth run in the third for an 8-0 lead and Pignatelli added an RBI double in Colts Neck’s three-run fourth inning that put the game away.

(6) Brick 8, (11) Toms River North 7
Brayden Heatter hit a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth and the Green Dragons surged in front on a squeeze bunt later than same inning by winning pitcher Nick Newcomb, completing a come-from-behind win over the Mariners to advance to the OCT quarterfinals Tuesday at No. 3 Toms River East.
After Heatter fired up the Brick dugout with his opposite-field, two-run bomb to tie the game, the Green Dragons quickly mounted a new threat when Chris Quick was hit by a pitch and James Donoghue slammed a double to set up Brick with runners on second and third. Newcomb — who took over on the mound to start the top of the sixth — dropped down a bunt back to the mound and Ian St. Luce’s flip to home plate arrived after Quick scored the go-ahead run.
Toms River North jumped on top, 4-0, in the top of the third before Donoghue swung Brick back into the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third. The two teams traded runs in either half of the fourth inning and back-t0-back RBI singles by Vinny Vergona and St. Luce stretched Toms River North’s lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth.
Mariners pitcher Chase McTaggart was one out from a shutdown inning in the bottom of the fifth, but Peyton Horning extended the inning with a double to put runners on second and third and after a walk to load the bases, Shawn McLaughlin struck an infield single to shortstop to cut the Toms River North lead to 7-5.
The run Brick scratched across proved pivotal after Newcomb pitched a scoreless top of the sixth, setting up the winning rally in the bottom of the sixth. After Brick took the lead, Toms River North mounted a threat with a pair of base-runners, but Newcomb fired a strikeout on a 3-2 pitch to end it.

(9) Barnegat 2, (8) Lacey 1
Nick Malinowski gave himself all the run support he needed with a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the sixth inning and the Bengals rode their sophomore ace to a road win over the Lions, sending Barnegat to the OCT quarterfinals Tuesday at top-seeded Brick Memorial.
Nick Bruno drew a one-out walk in the sixth and an error sent Bruno to third. Chris Santero stole second base to give Malinowski two runners in scoring position with one out and Malinowski delivered a two-run single through the middle for a 2-1 Bengals lead.
Evan Greenberg led off the Lacey sixth with a single but Malinowski bounced back by retiring three straight to end his outing. Nick Coles walked Logan Resetar to lead off the bottom of the seventh and Resetar reached second base, but Coles set down the next three batters in order to end the game.

(2) Point Beach 5, (15) Donovan Catholic 4
Gabe Pavone and Dylan Ryan delivered crucial two-out RBI hits in a three-run fifth inning and the Garnet Gulls withstood a late-game surge by the Griffins to advance to the OCT quarterfinals Tuesday against No. 7 Toms River South — the lone team to beat Point Beach this season.
Ryan entered the fifth having already singled home a run in the bottom of the fourth to extend Point Beach’s lead to 2-0. A one-out error extended the inning for Pavone, who smashed a two-run double with two out to push the Garnet Gulls lead to 4-0. Ryan then delivered his second RBI single to make it 5-0.
Donovan Catholic scratched two runs across on Point Beach starter Noah Banick before Bennett Moberg worked out of the inning with Point Beach still ahead, 5-2. Aiden Brescia worked a scoreless bottom of the sixth to keep the Donovan Catholic deficit at three and Ryder Simpson hammered a two-run homer with none out in the top of the seventh to give the Griffins life.
Antonio Acevedo retired the two batters that followed Simpson’s homer before Brescia extended the game with a single and Connor Bragg reached on an error to put the potential go-ahead run on base with the tying run on second. Lucas Affa put the ball in play to the left side, but Chris Napolitano — playing shortstop with Acevedo pitching — fielded the ball and fired to Carson Pfeifer at third base for the game-ending force out.
