Freehold Township 41, Colts Neck 12
Junior quarterback Dakota Laster threw two touchdowns and ran for two more as the Patriots (2-0) defeated the district rival Cougars (0-2). Junior wideout Jake Schultzel scored on a 75-yard receiving touchdown. Senior running back Jake Rattiner and junior running back Dennis Quattrache each scored on rushing touchdowns in the win.
Keansburg 40, Freehold Boro 21
The Titans (1-0) earned an opening day victory over the Colonials (1-1) behind two rushing touchdowns from senior running back Milan Mraz and a pass touchdown and rushing touchdown from sophomore Taurian Black. Mraz scored on touchdown runs of 3 and 17 yards. Black found senior wideout Ason Young on a 43-yard touchdown while his rushing touchdown was from 10 yards out. Sophomore quarterback Mason Rand also threw a 13-yard touchdown to senior Quadir Taylor.
Lakewood 44, Keyport 20
The Piners (2-0) put up 40 points for the second straight week, taking down the Red Raiders (0-2) thanks to a strong rushing attack. Lakewood sophomore quarterback Abel Martinez ran for 300 yards and five touchdowns in the win.
Manasquan 14, No. 5 Point Boro 10
The Warriors (2-0) brought out a bit more of the dramatics after a dominant Week 0 victory last week, taking the lead late thanks to a six-yard touchdown run by reigning second-team All-Shore senior running back Ace Etienne with 39 seconds to play.
The Panthers (0-2) struck first early on, capping off a 15-play, nine-minute drive with a 21-yard field goal from kicker Jack Sullivan. Point Boro remained ahead by the same score for much of the first half, but Manasquan put together its first scoring drive late in the second quarter. Quarterback Frankie Tackett hit paydirt with 40 seconds left in the opening half with a nine-yard scrambling touchdown with his legs.
The third quarter saw no score, but the Panthers scored their first touchdown a minute into the fourth quarter, thanks to senior running back Jack Scalabrini’s six-yard score.
The Panthers put together a long and methodical drive, including multiple fourth-down conversions. Manasquan ultimately converted on the winning score thanks to Etienne to cap off a nearly eight-minute scoring drive.
Central 28, Lacey 7
The Golden Eagles (2-0) knocked off the rival Lions (0-2) two touchdowns from Zy’Shaun Carroll. Junior running back J.J. Twohig scored their first rushing touchdown of the game to tie the game 7-7 after the Lions went ahead early. Junior defensive back Zy’Shaun Carroll scooped up a fumble and ran 90 yards for a touchdown to give Central their first lead. Senior Valentino Nastasi pounded in a 2-yard touchdown run on a direct snap. Carroll iced the game after catching a 20-yard screen pass from senior quarterback Jake Halpin for the final score of the game.

Nondivisional
Marlboro 23, Toms River South 6
The Mustangs (2-0) notched their second win, taking down the Indians (0-2) in a hard-fought battle.
Junior quarterback Nick Dimino did it with his arm and his legs, throwing a pair of touchdown passes to Dylan Preston and Charlie Kaplan, while adding a rushing score as well.
No. 4 Toms River North 40, Toms River East 0
The Mariners (1-1) bounced back from their opening week loss to defeat the district rival Raiders (1-1) behind a strong all-around performance from junior Wesley Tanner.
Tanner scooped up a fumble that was forced by teammate Jack Baker on the opening kickoff and ran it all the way back for a 25-yard touchdown. He also scored on a receiving touchdown from 70 yards out.
The explosive plays continued across the team, as junior Cole Garrison scored on a 30-yard rushing touchdown and a five-yard touchdown reception. Sophomore wideout Jared Brown added a 40-yard receiving touchdown of his own. Junior running back Lucas Elias and Jayden Joyner each added a rushing touchdown as well.
No. 3 Rumson-Fair Haven 35, No. 2 Brick Memorial 7
Junior linebacker Ryder Izzo recovered four fumbles as the Bulldogs (2-0) corralled the Mustangs (1-1) in an early season statement win.
Rumson scored on their opening drive on a 5-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Casey Moore that was deflected into the air and hauled in by senior wideout Brandon McDonald. Brick Memorial drove down the field before senior defensive back Finn Carlston stepped in front of a swing pass and returned the ball 79 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0.
In the second half, the Mustangs found the end zone on a 58-yard touchdown run by senior running back Nazeer Whittaker to cut the deficit to 14-7.
Junior defensive lineman Ben Gredell then forced a fumble that was recovered by Izzo, which led to a 1-yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Brady Williams. Senior defensive lineman Toby Najenson forced another fumble that was recovered by Izzo and led to a 21-yard touchdown pass from Moore to junior wideout Cole Spoonire.
Senior defensive lineman Gavin Mishkin then forced yet another fumble that was scooped up by Izzo and returned 65 yards for a touchdown.
Barnegat 20, Manchester 2
Senior quarterback Jack Haviland rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another as the Bengals (2-0) grounded the Hawks (0-2).
Haviland found junior wideout Blake Pezzuti for a 5-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter. The Bengals added another touchdown in the final two minutes of the half on a 5-yard touchdown run by Haviland. A third-quarter sack led to a safety for Manchester that cut the deficit to 14-2. Haviland added a 20-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to ice the game.
Brick 36, Long Branch 7
The Dragons (2-0) took care of business against the Green Wave (0-2) behind all-around performances from junior running back and linebacker Cian Foy as well as senior quarterback James Hirtes.
Foy ran for a touchdown on offense and forced a fumble on a sack that he recovered for a touchdown in the end zone on defense. Hirtes scored on 3 rushing touchdowns to give him six in two games. Junior wideout Messiah Odunsi also caught a two-point conversion in the victory.
Monmouth 25, Pinelands 7
The Falcons (1-1) bounced back from last week’s loss to top the Wildcats (0-2) behind two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown from sophomore quarterback Ryan Corwin.
Senior tight end Bryce Browne caught 4 passes, including a touchdown. Sophomore wideout Donovan Hicks also caught a touchdown. Junior running back Tyler Gustafson rushed for a touchdown.
Neptune 13, Red Bank 7
The Scarlet Fliers (1-1) sunk the Buccaneers (0-1) for their first win of the season behind two touchdown passes from junior quarterback Caleb Brown-Mason.
Brown-Mason found junior Daaron Lynch and senior Mike MacLennan on the touchdown passes.
No. 10 St. John Vianney 35, Raritan 7
A two-touchdown performance from junior running back Corleii Thomas helped lift the Lancers (1-1) past the Rockets (0-1) for their first win of the season and the first career victory for new head coach Greg Penta.
St. John Vianney’s first touchdown of the night came on a 54-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Zach LaBarca to senior wideout Adam Urs late in the first quarter.
Early in the third quarter, Thomas busted through off tackle for a 20-yard touchdown run. Senior running back Danny Breen added a 47-yard touchdown run on a counter play to extend the lead to 21-0.
After a Rockets touchdown, senior kick returner DJ Carter broke an 85-yard touchdown. Thomas then finished the night with a 15-yard touchdown run.
No. 7 Middletown North 30, Howell 19
The Lions (1-0) kicked off their season with a victory over the Rebels (1-1) on the road.
Junior running back Matt Belenko scored three touchdowns in the win, one shy of his scoring total (four) for the entirety of his sophomore season, helping anchor Middletown North’s offense. Kicker Seamus Montegue converted on three field goal attempts to add another nine points to the Lions’ ledger, while standout wide receiver Jack Viola added a two-point conversion.
Connor Acker threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns for Howell in the loss. Josh Krutyansky had TD catches of 30 and 5 yards for the Rebels, and Jackson Behn had a 20-yard touchdown catch.
Shore 42, New Egypt 21
The Blue Devils (1-0) used a dominant run game to take down the Warriors (0-1) on the road in each team’s season opener.
Shore rumbled for over 300 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground, including four scores from junior Cole Torres.
No. 11 Holmdel 48, No. 6 Donovan Catholic 35
The Hornets (1-0) picked up where they left off after losing nearly their entire starting lineup as they defeated the Griffins (0-2) in a shootout behind a standout performance from senior quarterback Jack Cannon.
The returning first-team All-Shore selection ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more.
Cannon’s first-quarter screen pass to senior wideout James Murphy went for 67 yards, which set up a 1-yard touchdown run for Cannon’s first score of the game.
In the second quarter, Cannon found sophomore wideout Anthony Serini on a 4-yard touchdown pass. A bad snap on a punt was recovered in the end zone by the Hornets’ Peter Berardi to make the score 21-0.
Later in the half, Cannon found junior tight end Ryan Pescatore for a 24-yard touchdown on a fake field goal play. Donovan Catholic got on the scoreboard on the last play of the half on a 29-yard touchdown pass from junior Kahden Davis to sophomore wideout TJ Hunter.
The Griffins scored on their first drive of the second half after a 43-yard run by Davis set up a 15-yard touchdown pass to junior wideout Aidan Kelly.
Holmdel responded with a sensational 58-yard touchdown run from Cannon to make the score 35-14. Donovan Catholic answered with a 6-yard touchdown run from Davis, who was injured on the play and missed the remainder of the game.
The Hornets responded after Cannon ran for 64 yards and then finished the drive on an 11-yard touchdown scamper. In the fourth quarter, a Murphy sack led to a 22-yard fumble return touchdown from junior Michael Todisco to make the game 48-21. Donovan Catholic junior running back Ethan Nicolas would score on touchdown runs of 1 and 45 yards late in the fourth quarter.
Unofficially, Cannon was 9-for-12 passing for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also rushed 17 times for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns. Davis rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 9 carries. Nicolas finished with 105 yards rushing on 10 carries along with 2 touchdowns.
Matawan 33, Ocean 14
The Huskies (1-1) rebounded after a heartbreaking Week 0 loss to Hightstown with a 19-point victory over the Spartans (1-1).
Sophomore running back Sean Euell toted the ball 22 times for a career-high 160 yards and added another two touchdowns after recording Matawan’s lone score last week. Senior running back Erik Martinez added another 165 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries.
In the passing game, quarterback BlairCarter Gagneron threw for 154 yards and a score, finding sophomore wideout Cayson Williams four times for 70 yards and a touchdown. Damian Marsh added a 35-yard reception.
Southern 10, No. 8 Jackson 7
The Rams (2-0) shut down the Jaguars (1-1) in a strong, early-season victory.
Junior quarterback Carson Abbato found senior wideout Darren Hamlin for Southern’s only touchdown of the game. Sophomore kicker Cole Celeste provided the decisive points with a 36-yard field goal in addition to an extra point.
No. 12 Manalapan 24, Middletown South 14
Junior quarterback Cameron Desfosse threw two touchdown passes to lead the Braves (1-1) past the Eagles (0-2).
Desfosse found senior running back Ahsere Woolfolk for a 15-yard touchdown. He also found junior tight end Ethan Fogelstrom for a 54-yard touchdown. Junior kicker Brandon Kaplan converted on a 21-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.
Senior slotback Ryan Melendez closed out the game with a 5-yard touchdown run. Woolfolk and senior defensive back DJ Corsaro had interceptions in the win.
Asbury Park 42, Point Beach 29
The Bishops (1-0) halted the Garnet Gulls’ (1-1) season-opening momentum, lighting up the scoreboard with a strong rushing attack.
Senior running back Am’iere Massie carried the load with over 200 yards on the ground and found paydirt four times. Junior wide receiver Kingston Dunkley added another two rushing scores, and also caught a touchdown.
For Point Beach, quarterback Matt Rossi built off a strong Week 0 against South River, throwing for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. His connection with receiver Danny Cavanaugh remained solid, as the junior recorded over 100 receiving yards.
Nonconference
Tottenville (NY) 20, Wall 15
The Crimson Knights (0-2) became the second Shore Conference team to fall to the Pirates (2-0) this season.
Sophomore running back Mike Boulard broke off a 57-yard touchdown run to cut the deficit to 13-7 at the half. After the Pirates extended their lead, senior running back Dylan Cohen finished off a third-quarter drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, followed by a 2-point conversion pass on a broken play.
The Crimson Knights recovered a squib kick and had several chances to take the lead, but could not convert.
No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 13, Middletown (DE) 8
The Caseys (2-0) stymied the Cavaliers (0-2) to avenge last year’s defeat behind a touchdown run from junior quarterback Jake Garrett and two field goals from freshman kicker Simon Picinich, including a 39-yarder.
