A strong run game and stifling defense helped snap the Spartans’ (4-4) two-game skid, taking down the Cougars (2-6) on the road.
Sophomore kicker Joey Bercovicz converted on four kicks – two extra points and field goals of 29 and 31 yards – while the offense got a rushing touchdown each from junior quarterback Jake Garrett from 15 yards out and senior running back Josh Calixte from two yards out. Ocean scored in all four quarters.
Garrett also did some work on the defensive side, sacking Cougars senior quarterback Zack Caporale in the end zone for a fourth-quarter safety.
Freehold Boro 28, Keyport 24
The Colonials (2-6) rallied from a 24-0 deficit with 28 unanswered points to defeat the Red Raiders (1-7). Freshman quarterback Adrian KrKuti found senior wideout Ben Brooker on two touchdown passes and rushed for another in his first start. Junior Jordan McKenzie returned a fumble for a touchdown. Senior Julian Isaacs rushed for a two point conversion.
Keansburg 43, Lakewood 42 (OT)
A 12-yard touchdown run in overtime from sophomore quarterback Mason Rand followed by an extra point from kicker Michael Clayton lifted the Titans (2-5) over the Piners (2-6). Keansburg tied the game with 23 seconds in regulation on a two-point conversion pass from Rand to sophomore running back Taurian Black. The Titans trailed 24-7 early on before chipping away at the lead and rallying to victory. Rand finished with two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns that were caught by Clayton and senior wideout Ason Young. Young also returned a kick return for a touchdown. Black also had a rushing touchdown.

Asbury Park 50, New Egypt 43
Senior running back A’meire Massie rushed for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns on 21 carries as the Blue Bishops (4-3) outpaced the Warriors (3-4) in a high-scoring affair. Junior wideout Kingston Dunkley rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Senior running back Nicholas Chathuant and senior wideout Nyjohn Kirkpatrick also rushed for touchdowns.
Sophomore quarterback Thomas Marabuto exploded for a school-record 401 yards and four touchdowns on 22-for-32 passing in the loss for New Egypt.
Senior wide receiver Clyde Ferris also had a record-setting night with seven catches for 263 yards and three touchdowns for the Warriors. Senior running back Eddie Novatkowski added a pair of touchdown runs.
No. 5 Donovan Catholic 23, No. 9 Manalapan 22
The Griffins (5-3) held on to defeat the Braves (5-3) on a strong goal line stand after they recovered a Manalapan fumble with the ball at the 1-yard line at the end of the game.
Junior quarterback Kahden Davis threw for 235 yards and found junior Aidan Kelly on a 75-yard touchdown strike and sophomore wideout TJ Hunter on a 76-yard touchdown strike. Junior running back Diondre Foendoe scored on a three yard touchdown plunge. Senior kicker Blake Caruso booted a 36-yard field goal.
Ethan Nicolas added 120 yards rushing in the win.
Junior quarterback Cameron Desfosse threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns and wideout Ryan Melendez had four catches for 142 yards and a touchdown in the loss for Manalapan.
Toms River North 37, No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 29
Junior quarterback Logan Brill found junior tight end Jack Baker on a 50-yard touchdown pass and junior running back Lucas Elias on a 6-yard touchdown pass as the Mariners (4-4) earned a huge win over the Bulldogs (4-3).
Elias also rushed for a 50-yard touchdown while junior wideout Cole Garrison rushed for a 35-yard touchdown. Junior kicker Carter Tamaro converted on a field goal.
No. 8 Manasquan 34, Brick 14
Senior running back Ace Etienne rushed for 201 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns on distances of 26, 58 and 7 yards, and junior quarterback Kyle Dow tossed two touchdown passes as the Warriors (6-1) pulled away from the Dragons (3-5).
Dow found senior wideout Frankie Tackett and junior tight end Luke Barry for touchdown passes. Junior defensive back Dax Klein recorded an interception on defense and senior defensive lineman Ambrose Masonius forced a fumble on a sack that was recovered by junior defensive lineman Lucas Kubu.
Pinelands 32, Manchester 12
Junior quarterback Jamie Jenkins accounted for three touchdowns as the Wildcats (6-2) defeated the Hawks (0-8) for their sixth straight victory.
Jenkins found junior wideouts Anthony Bonds and Dom Colosi for touchdown passes in addition to rushing for a touchdown of his own. Senior running backs Eric Kobilnyk and Ishmael Jaquez each rushed for touchdowns in the win.
Toms River South 14, Toms River East 10
Senior quarterback Brett Rankin used his legs to propel the Indians (2-6) over the Raiders (4-4) in the final minute.
Rankin finished the game with 14 carries for 81 yards and both touchdowns for Toms River South. After Toms River East took the lead on a 35-yard field goal from senior kicker Jadiel Tavenite midway through the fourth quarter, Rankin put the offense on his back, carrying the ball seven times for 53 yards on the Indians’ final drive, taking the lead with under a minute to play on a four-yard touchdown.
The Raiders had a chance in the final seconds, working all the way to get close to the red zone, but the Indians got a final stop.
Junior running back Kavon Metellus added 66 yards on 14 carries for the victorious Indians.
St. John Vianney 27, Jackson 21
Senior quarterback Zach LaBarca accounted for three touchdowns as the Lancers (4-4) topped the Jaguars (2-6).
LaBarca rushed for a touchdown and found senior wideout Adam Urs for two passing touchdowns. Junior running back Corleii Thomas rushed for a touchdown.
Point Boro 28, Howell 14
Junior quarterback Jake Clayton rushed for three touchdowns in his return from injury to lead the Panthers (3-4) past the Rebels (3-5).
Junior defensive back Luca Cangiano scored on a 17-yard interception return. Freshman Trevor Evans rushed for 60 yards on 11 carries in his offensive debut at fullback. Freshman slotback Owen Hart carried the ball five times for 42 yards.
Senior linebacker Jack Scalabrini recorded 10 tackles including three for a loss while freshman defensive back Lincoln Blasi had seven tackles and two pass break ups. Junior kicker Jack Sullivan was 4-for-4 on extra points.
Freehold Township 28, Lacey 6
Junior quarterback Dakota Lasater returned from missing multiple games with illness and rushed for a 15-yard touchdown and also found junior wideout Jake Schultzel on a 35-yard touchdown pass as the Patriots (5-3) defeated the Lions (2-5).
Senior running back Jake Rattiner scored on a 3-yard rushing touchdown while junior running back Dennis Quattrache III scored on a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Sophomore Scott Monge recorded an interception.
No. 12 Central 42, Long Branch 7
Senior quarterback Jacob Halpin led the way with four touchdown passes as the Golden Eagles (7-1) soared past the Green Wave (0-8).
The passing game got going early for Halpin and company, as he linked up with junior wideout CJ Yates twice in the opening half as Central took a commanding 21-0 lead into halftime. Junior wide receiver Zyshun Carroll added a 44-yard touchdown reception early on in the third quarter.
Middletown South 28, No. 11 Red Bank 19
Senior quarterback Luca Donofrio threw two touchdown passes to senior wideout Logan Burbank and junior wideout Owen Maguire as the Eagles (3-4) beat the Bucs (4-3).
Junior defensive back Justin Rosato returned an interception for a touchdown. Burbank and junior tight end Anthony Bennett each caught two-point conversions. Senior defensive back Josh Antonucci and junior defensive backs Mike Mullane and Ryan McCarthy each recorded an interception.
Neptune 35, Barnegat 6
Junior quarterback Caleb Brown-Mason rushed 139 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries as the Fliers (7-1) ran past the Bengals (3-4) for their first seven-game winning streak since 2011.
Brown-Mason scored on runs of 3, 12, and 2 yards. Junior running back Kingston Pinnock rushed for 61 yards on 11 carries, including an 8-yard touchdown run. Senior Mike MacLennan scored on a 19-yard touchdown run.
No. 3 Holmdel 35, Raritan 0
Junior running back Matt Scheinman rushed for two touchdowns and senior quarterback Jack Cannon found senior wideout James Murphy on two touchdown passes as the Hornets (5-2) cruised past the Rockets (3-4) for their eighth win in the last nine Battle of the Border rivalry games.
Junior running back Michael Todisco added a touchdown run and came down with an interception on defense, which made him the all-time leader in interceptions in Holmdel history with seven. He has five this season.
No. 7 Wall 21, Marlboro 0
The Crimson Knights (5-2) used a strong run game and defensive effort to hand the Mustangs (2-6) their sixth straight loss.
Senior running back Dylan Cohen ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, while senior quarterback Brian McKenna added another score with his legs, to go along with 147 yards passing. Senior kicker Heath Reinhardt converted on all three extra-point attempts.
The defense posted its second shutout of the season, recording five sacks in Marlboro’s backfield.
Middletown North 23, No. 10 Matawan 21
Senior wideout Jack Viola scored on a rushing and receiving touchdown as the Lions (3-3) knocked off the Huskies (5-3).
Junior running back Matt Belenko added a rushing touchdown. Senior kicker Seamus Montague added a field goal. Junior defensive back MJ Parulis recorded an interception. Junior defensive lineman Derek Laguno recorded two sacks.
Sophomore quarterback BlairCarter Gagneron threw for 176 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 53 yards and a score in the loss for the Huskies. Senior Welman Crooms added a score on a blocked kick return, and sophomore wide receiver Cayson Williams has five catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.
No. 4 Brick Memorial 19, No. 2 Southern 14
Senior quarterback Jason Lajara accounted for three touchdowns as the Mustangs (6-2) put together a strong defensive performance to knock off the previously unbeaten Rams (7-1).
Lajara found junior tight end Joe Livio on a 15-yard touchdown pass before calling his own number on a three-yard touchdown run. He would later find senior wideout Ricky Dillon for a 25-yard touchdown pass at the end of the third quarter.
Lajara completed 19 of his 27 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns, also running for 49 yards and the rushing score. Livio recorded a career night with eight receptions for 141 yards and the 15-yard score. Sophomore wide receiver Shawn Fowler also caught three passes for 70 yards and a score of his own.
Southern sophomore linebacker Niko Iliescu was a game-wrecker on defense, despite the loss. He finished with four tackles for loss, and two sacks.
Junior Luke Iorio had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and senior Aidan Covell added a six-yard TD run in the loss for Southern.
Shore 27, Monmouth 13
Junior running back Cole Torres rumbled for 155 yards and two touchdowns as the Blue Devils (5-2) defeated the Falcons (5-3).
Junior quarterback Logan Clark rushed for a three-yard touchdown and found senior wideout Vinny Sasso for a passing touchdown.

Paramus Catholic 30, No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 16
The Caseys’ (7-1) seven-game unbeaten streak to start the year came to an end at the hands of the upset-minded Paladins (3-5), thanks to Paramus Catholic’s strong passing attack.
Freshman quarterback Rahmir Rivera and sophomore wideout Jason Berecsky notched Red Bank Catholic’s lone touchdown of the night, connecting from 19 yards out in the second quarter. Freshman kicker Simon Picinich converted on field goals of 22 and 31 yards in the second quarter, and hit a 40-yarder in the third quarter.
The Paladins – led by sophomore quarterback Rowan Martin – led by just two points at halftime, but pulled away by outscoring the Caseys 15-3 in the second half. Martin threw for two scores, and sophomore defensive back AJ Lopez Jr. returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter.
