Senior fullback Dylan Reitmeyer ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, sophomore quarterback Jake Clayton ran for a touchdown and kicked a 32-yard field goal and sophomore Nick Spanola returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown as the Panthers (2-1, 1-0) scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to take down the Griffins (0-2, 0-1).
Following Spanola’s kick return touchdown to open the game, Donovan responded to take a 14-7 halftime lead on a pair of rushing touchdowns by sophomore Gavin Nascimento. The Panthers took the lead back in the third quarter on touchdown runs by Reitmeyer and Clayton and then extended their advantage to 23-14 when a forced fumble by Reitmeyer was recovered by senior linebacker Colin Obser, leading to Clayton’s field goal. An interception by Spanola led to Reitmeyer’s second touchdown run with 4:15 left.
Reitmeyer finished with 15 tackles and a forced fumble, Obser had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, senior defensive lineman Tanner Hynes recorded eight tackles and senior defensive lineman Paul Hagenmeyer made seven tackles. Clayton finished with 51 yards rushing and a touchdown on 13 carries and Spanola ran for 61 yards on five carries in addition to his kick return touchdown and interception.
Donovan Catholic senior wide receiver Michael Thomas III, who is committed to Rutgers, did not dress.
