Class A North

Marlboro 2, Howell 2

Senior Vinny Pollifrone scored the equalizer in the 74th minute and the Mustangs (2-2-2, 0-2-2) erased two different one-goal deficits to salvage a draw with the Rebels (2-4-1, 0-3-1).

Howell jumped on top in the first minute of action on a goal by sophomore Tom Beurskens. Marlboro answered in the 24th minute with a goal by senior Dean Allegretta.

Sophomore Juan Maria converted a penalty kick three minutes into the second half to push Howell back into the lead.

 

Class A South

Central 2, Southern 1 (OT)

Senior Danny Palheta scored the golden goal in the 14th minute of overtime off a corner kick by sophomore Mike Bianco and the Golden Eagles (3-3, 1-2) pulled out a road win over the Rams (3-2-1, 1-1-1) in a rematch of last year’s South Jersey Group IV semifinal.

Central broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute when Bianco found senior Landon Kavanagh for the first goal of the game. Southern drew even in the 65th when senior Tyler Houghton finished a pass from senior Nick Leiriao.

 

Class B North

Freehold Twp. 4, Matawan 1

Senior Gino Castaneda scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half and added two assists as the Patriots (4-2-1, 3-1-0) shook off an early Matawan goal to score four unanswered in a win over the Huskies (2-7, 2-3).

Junior Ergi Gjino staked Matawan to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 7th minute, but Freehold Township counted 1:10 later, sophomore Chase Melcher scored off a cross by senior Gabe Bormolini.

Castaneda broke the tie by driving the ball from midfield to the 18-yard box for the finish, then assisted insurance goals by seniors Caine Massey and Alex Rivera to seal the win.

 

Non-Division

No. 9 Shore 2, Point Boro 1

The Blue Devils (4-3) scored two goals within a two-minute span after falling behind early in the second half and held on for a road win over the Panthers (1-5-1).

Senior Joe Doles scoring in the opening minutes of the second half to give Point Boro a 1-0 lead before Shore responded in the 47th minute with a goal by Bryan Barbosa off a feed from fellow sophomore Bryan Silveira.

Less than two minutes later, junior Silvio Pessoa buried the game-winner for Shore.

Brick Memorial 3, No. 4 Manasquan 0

Senior Landon Amalfa scored on a free kick in the 37th minute and classmate Elin Torres added the exclamation point to the win with a free-kick goal in the 75th as the Mustangs (5-3) handed the Warriors (5-1) their first loss of the season.

Brick Memorial held a 1-0 lead for the first 20 minutes of the second half before sophomore Matt Heptig scored to push the Mustangs lead to 2-0.

No. 1 Colts Neck 1, No. 5 Middletown South 0

Junior Sean Moore scored following a long free kick into the box in the 18th minute and the Cougars (6-0) held on to beat the Eagles (4-2) on the road thanks to an 11-save, shutout performance by senior goalkeeper Liam Collura.

Senior Ben Kazani served a free kick into the box, which senior C.J. Collins headed down to the ground. The ball hit the ground in the middle of the 18-yard box and Moore beat everyone to it, rifling a shot in from eight yards out for his eighth goal of the season. Moore has scored at least one goal in all six of Colts Neck’s wins to open the season.

No. 7 Toms River East 5, Middletown North 1

Junior Ayden Salazar assisted the lone Toms River East goal in the first half and scored the first of four in the second half as the Raiders (7-0) used goals from five different players to race past the Lions (0-6-1).

Senior Jacob Villegas-Bedoya opened the scoring in the eighth minute off a pass from Salazar, who scored the decisive goal five minutes into the second half. Senior Aiden Corapi scored off an assist by goalkeeper Mike Moore in the 52nd minute and later assisted the final Raiders goal, which was finished by junior Samuel Los.

Junior Nick DiMeola scored off a pass from sophomore Brady Gillen to make it 4-0 in the 65th minute.

Point Beach 7, St. Rose 0

Junior Brody Powers recorded a hat trick, senior Dylan Ryan and junior Landon Hoberman each added a brace and sophomore Max Ramirez dished out four assists to lead the Garnet Gulls (6-1) to a one-sided win over the Purple Roses (0-7-1).

No. 2 CBA 1, Toms River North 0

Senior Finn McCarthy headed in a corner kick off a Toms River North defender and in with 2:08 remaining to deliver the Colts (5-1-2) a win over the Mariners (1-4-3) in the final stages of regulation time — CBA’s fifth straight victory after opening the season with two draws and a loss.

 

Non-Conference

Seneca 2, Freehold Boro 0

Bradley Cooper scored in the first half and Jake Bauer tacked on an insurance goal after halftime as the Golden Eagles (4-3) held serve at home by beating the Colonials (4-3).

Asbury Park 5, South Hunterdon 1

Junior Brandon Joseph and sophomore Yoexsi Nicolas-Ortiz each scored two goals and Joseph added an assist as the Blue Bishops (5-2) erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with a five-goal second half in a win over the Eagles (1-5). Senior Dain Salazar also scored a goal and dealt out an assist for Asbury Park.
