Group 1

Lacey 3, Red Bank 2 (OT)

Senior Aiden Schmitt tied the game with a penalty kick in the 76th minute and sophomore Logan Hope scored the golden goal off a rebound in the 15th minute of overtime as the Lions (5-4) completed a come-from-behind win on the road over the Bucs (4-6-1).

Red Bank senior Gus Kowalczyk gave his team a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 52nd minute off an assist by junior Andy Plazas, set up by a free kick from junior Brian Garcia. The Bucs held the advantage until the final five minutes, when Schmitt drew a take-down inside the box and buried the ensuing penalty kick to tie the score.

In the 95th minute, Red Bank sophomore goalkeeper Zuma Rubin made a diving save on a 20-yard free kick by Lacey senior Tanner Grozinski, but the ball bounced to Hope, who finished off the winning goal.

Grozinski opened the scoring in the 34th minute, with Grozinski finishing off a give-and-go with fellow senior Noah Riley. Red Bank answered in the 38th on an equalizer by senior Alex Salvo.

Group 3

No. 5 Toms River East 2, Barnegat 0

Senior Aiden Reis slammed in a loose ball in the box in the ninth minute and sophomore Brennen Hutton tacked on an insurance goal in the 68th to deliver the Raiders (9-0) their ninth straight win to open the season in a take-down of the Bengals (5-4).

 

Group 4

Middletown North 6, St. Rose 5

Senior Louis Romeo scored the tie-breaking goal in the 70th minute and the Lions (1-7-1) beat the the Purple Roses (0-9-1) in a wild, high-scoring game played between two teams searching for their first win of the season heading into the game.

Senior Paul Que scored a goal in each half and assisted the fourth of Middletown North’s four first-half goals — scored by junior Andrew Polanco to give the Lions a 4-2 lead at intermission. Senior Joey Velona assisted both goals by Que.

Junior Ryan Otero scored the first Middletown North goal off a feed from junior Dolan Dunigan and senior Cam DelGrosso scored the third Lions goal off a pass from freshman Julian Crampton.

No. 9 Rumson-Fair Haven 3, Donovan Catholic 1

Senior Patrick Huber scored the lone goal of the first half and classmates Bobby Quaglia and Jack Duffy each added one in the second half to help the Bulldogs (4-2-2) coast to a win over the Griffins (1-6).

Junior Christian Santos set up Huber’s goal in the 21st minute and the Bulldogs clung to a 1-0 lead until the 47th minute, when Quaglia scored off a feed from senior Sal Taddeo. Duffy capped the Rumson scoring off an assist from senior Zach Winig in the 56th.

Senior Charlie Yuro got Donovan Catholic on the board with a goal in the closing minutes.

 

Group 6

Point Boro 5, Lakewood 2

Junior Jack Monahan scored the tie-breaking goal in the 36th minute for the first of four unanswered goals by Point Boro as the Panthers (2-6-1) pulled away for a win over the Piners (1-7).

Sophomore Colin Leschinski opened the scoring in the 17th minute for a 1-0 Point Boro lead and in the 36th, senior Joe Doles found Monahan for the finish that sent Point Boro into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore Ben Scott added to the lead in the 52nd with a goal off a pass from classmate Jameson Mahon and senior Alberto Boscolo-Cegio continued to pile on with a goal in the 59th off an assist from senior Doug Walsh. In the 65th, Walsh capped the scoring with a goal of his own, which came off a pass from senior Braeden Moramarco.

 

Group 7

Toms River South 3, St. John Vianney 1

Senior Shane Gambarony dished out the second of his two assists on senior Brody Robillard’s g0-ahead goal in the 65th minute, then added a goal in last five minutes to help lead the Indians (6-1-1) to a pivotal group win over the Lancers (2-4-3).

Senior Karsin Migliori gave Toms River South a 1-0 on a goal with 19 seconds left in the first half. Sophomore Giuseppe Raso set Gambarony loose with a pass up the field and Gambarony crossed it into the box, where Raso finished off the goal. Senior Jacob Myers assisted Gambarony’s insurance goal.

 

Group 8

Southern 5, Pinelands 0

Senior Caden Schweigart scored a hat trick and the Rams (4-3-1) rolled to a win over the Wildcats (1-7). Senior Brody Nacarlo posted a goal and an assist and freshman Michael King also added a goal for Southern.

No. 3 Long Branch 3, Wall 2

Senior Chris De Oliveira Santos scored two goals in the second half and the Green Wave (5-0-1) held on to beat the Crimson Knights (4-3) and extend their undefeated start to the season.

With the game tied, 1-1, in the 55th minute, De Oliveira Santos headed a pass from fellow senior Brandon Mendoza to the ground, dribbled by a defender, and ripped a shot to the far side netting for a 2-1 Long Branch lead. Later in the half, De Oliveira Santos settled a flick from senior Thomas Silva and slipped it past charging goalkeeper Harrison Novick for a 3-1 lead.

Junior Emilio Tepepa-Morales scored the first Long Branch goal off a corner kick by senior Marvin Oyuela, which tied the game, 1-1, in the first half.

Senior Christian Garduza scored both Wall goals, including the opening strike to give Wall a 1-0 lead.

Brick Memorial 5, Red Bank Catholic 0

Junior Nate Stryker scored a goal in each half and also assisted the final goal by senior Sebastian Millan to lead the Mustangs (7-3) to a lopsided win over the Caseys (4-4-1).

Millan also assisted Stryker’s first goal, which came in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Mat Heptig posted a goal and an assist as well, while junior Nick Stryker opened the scoring for Brick Memorial.

Non-Conference

Point Beach 3, Middlesex 2

Junior Brody Powers scored two goals in the second half after assisting a goal by senior Dylan Ryan in the first and the Garnet Gulls (7-2) rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to upend the Blue Jays (5-4).

Powers tied the game with a goal off an assist from sophomore Tyler Morgan and won it by finishing a pass from Ryan.

Keyport 6, South Amboy 1

Senior Justin Visaggio posted a hat trick while dishing out two assists to lead a one-sided win for the Red Raiders (2-5) over the Governors (3-3). Senior John Covert added two goals and an assist, with senior Danny Metrick also contributing a goal for Keyport.
