Non-Division
Barnegat 2, Lakewood 0
Senior Leo Chamorro assisted a goal by classmate Riley Stolte in the first half, then scored 14 seconds into the second half to spark the Bengals to a win over the Piners — their second win in three days to open the season. Chamorro connected from the top of the 18-yard box with a shot he struck with the outside of his right foot and sliced into the upper corner of the goal.
Senior goalkeeper Donovan Paul saved nine shots to earn the shutout.
No. 10 Ocean 4, Matawan 0
Senior Brandon Cosentino scored a goal in each half and assisted another of Ocean’s three first-half goals as the Spartans blanked the Huskies (0-2) to pick up a season-opening win.
Junior Nic Critelli and senior Vernon Taylor each scored a goal in the first half, while senior Lucas Renvoize and senior Brandon Johnson each dealt out an assist in the win.
Raritan 4, Middletown North 2
Senior Owen Brackett picked up where he left off in 2024 by rolling up a hat trick on opening day, which led the Rockets to a season-opening win over the Lions despite Raritan playing a man down for the final 72 minutes.
Brackett also assisted a goal by junior Jaden Molina, which gave Raritan a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute. Brackett then scored off a pass from sophomore August Zaleski to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 47th minute and made it 4-1 with a goal in the 70th
Senior Paul Que scored both goals for Middletown North.
No. 1 Manalapan 2, Freehold Twp. 2
Seniors Gabe Bormolini and Caine Massey each scored a go-ahead goal to put the Patriots on the brink of an opening-day upset, but senior Dan Altman converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute for the final goal of a season-opening draw.
Bormolini opened the scoring in the ninth minute by squaring up a bouncing ball in the box and finishing for an early Freehold Township lead. Manalapan senior Ethan Lustig — who scored 20 goals a season ago — tied the score with his first goal of 2025, which came in the 19th minute.
Massey sent Freehold Township to the halftime break with a 2-1 lead when he scored in the 35th minute off a pass from senior Alex Rivera.
Both teams played with 10 men for the duration of overtime after both were issued red cards just past the midway point of the second half. Ten minutes after the scrum that led to the red cards, Altman earned a penalty kick when he drew a takedown in the box.
No. 7 Middletown South 4, Holmdel 1
Junior Connor Saul scored two goals in the first half and senior Luke Strada posted a goal and two assists to rally the Eagles to four unanswered goals in a season-opening win over the Hornets.
Senior Luke Farrugia connected on a wind-aide, 35-yard free kick in the third minute to give Holmdel a quick 1-0 lead, but Saul answered with two minutes by knocking in a loose ball in the box after a free kick by senior Matteo Gallina set it up.
In the 35th minute, Strada beat a defender along the end-line on the left side and centered the ball to the middle of the box, where Saul knocked it in from inside the six-yard box.
Strada added to the lead in the 50th, when he ran down a long pass from Gallina, took one dribble to his right and unleashed a screaming shot from 20 yards out that tucked into the upper left corner of the goal.
Senior Brett Denery capped the scoring in the 53rd with a header off a corner kick by Strada.
No. 9 St. John Vianney 2, Red Bank 2
Seniors Mason Boles and Alex Salvo traded braces during the second half and the Lancers and Bucs settled for a draw on the backs of their returning All-Shore forwards.
Boles gave St. John Vianney a 2-0 lead with goals in the 45th and 55th minutes, the first of which was a penalty kick. Red Bank came roaring back behind two goals from Salvo, including the equalizer in the 79th minute off a pass from junior Cael Patrick.
Toms River South 1, No. 8 Central 0
Owen Beneciuk headed in a cross from fellow senior Shane Gambarony midway through the first half and the Indians held on for a road win over the Golden Eagles to open their season.
Senior goalkeeper Kaden Stout kept Central in the game by saving a Jake Myers penalty kick midway through the second half. Freshman Connor Starr made his signature save of the game with just over 10 minutes remaining — an acrobatic stop that preserved the 1-0 lead and his first career shutout.
Wall 3, St. Rose 0
Junior Shane Womack scored a minute into the season-opener and the Crimson Knights put the game away with two second-half goals in a shutout victory over the Purple Roses.
Senior Tanner Griffin found Womack for the game’s first goal and St. Rose stayed within a goal until the middle of the second half. Freshman Oliver Rhoades made it 2-0 with his first career goal — a follow up shot off a rebound on an initial attempt by sophomore Chris Knight in the 63th minute.
