Shore Conference Tournament
Group Stage
Group 2
Shore 5, Brick 3
Senior Cooper Attaway scored a second-half hat trick on three headers and the Blue Devils (6-4-1) rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to beat the Green Dragons (7-3) while strengthening their odds to make it out of SCT group play.
Brick stormed into halftime with a 3-2 lead behind sparkling first-half performances by seniors Gianno Godenzi and Carl Loffredo. After Shore grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Gavin Neuhaus in the fourth minute, Brick responded with two goals in a span of 24 seconds during the seventh minute. Loffredo finished off a pass from Godenzi 6:13 into the match and at 6:37, Loffredo found Godenzi for the go-ahead goal.
Shore tied the game, 2-2, in the 26th when junior Silvio Pessoa buried a penalty kick after a hand ball call inside the box against Brick. Ten minutes later, Loffredo found Godenzi again, with Godensi collecting the through-ball and slamming it in from the middle of the 18-yard box for a 3-2 Green Dragons lead.
Attaway tied the game with a header on Pessoa’s corner kick in the 48th minute, then headed in another free kick by Pessoa in the 50th for a 4-3 Blue Devils lead. In the 66th, freshman Jonah Eichenbaum played a cross in the air and Attaway cut it off at the near post and headed it in for a 5-3 Shore advantage.
The two-goal margin of victory improves Shore’s odds of clinching a spot in the SCT, even if the Blue Devils do not beat No. 2 Colts Neck in Monday’s group-play finale. A win, draw or loss by a margin of two goals or fewer would clinch Shore a spot in the SCT.
Brick is seeking its first SCT berth since 2008 and can still earn one with help from either Monmouth Regional or Colts Neck. A four-goal margin of victory by Colts Neck vs. Shore would guarantee Brick a spot, as would a Monmouth win or tie vs. Freehold Township. A three-goal margin of victory by Colts Neck over Shore would activate the next tiebreaker, which is goals allowed. Brick finished group play having allowing nine goals, while Shore enters Monday with six allowed.
Group 4
No. 9 Rumson-Fair Haven 7, St. Rose 1
Senior Bobby Quaglia broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 17th minute and classmate Patrick Huber led the offense with two goals as the Bulldogs (5-3-3) rolled to a win over the Purple Roses (1-11-1).

Quaglia catapulted Rumson back in front in the 17 and Rumson nursed that lead for 15 minutes before scoring two goals in two minutes to open up a 4-1 lead. Senior Alex Olan scored off a pass from classmate Justin Creekmore before Creekmore finished off a set-up by Quaglia two minutes later for a 4-1 later.
