Shore Conference Tournament

Opening Round

(11) Manasquan 4, (22) Red Bank 0

Senior Cruz Farkas rolled up a hat trick and the Warriors (11-3) cruised to a first-round over the Bucs (5-10-1) to earn a trip to play a rematch against Manalapan Thursday in the round of 16.

Farkas opened the scoring midway through the first half then added a second goal 10 minutes later off a pass from junior Luke Byrne for a 2-0 Warriors lead. Junior Quinn Juska capped the scoring by finishing a goal with one second left in the half. Farkas then capped it by slamming in a rebound off an initial miss by junior Adam Rodricks.

(12) Marlboro 2, (21) Ranney 0

Senior Vinny Pollifrone converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute and junior Andrew Freid added an insurance goal in the 62nd to power the Mustangs (5-3-4) to a first-round win over the Panthers (10-5). Marlboro will face Class A North rival Holmdel in Thursday’s round of 16.

Pollifrone buried his penalty attempt after a foul near the front of the goal awarded Marlboro with an early chance — the best opportunity during a wave of chances for the Mustangs in the first 15 minutes. Ranney countered with a string of three shots on goal during a five-minute stretch in the middle of the half, which included Marlboro junior goalkeeper Kosta Mastrokalos grazing a screaming, 25-yard shot by Ranney sophomore Braden Morin that slammed off the crossbar after Mastrokalos got a finger on it.

Marlboro earned breathing room in the 62nd minute, when senior Rishabh Krishnan found junior Andrew Freid with a diagonal through ball and Freid poked it in with his outside right boot.

(10) Ocean 2, (23) Middletown North 0

Junior Nic Critelli broke open the scoring off a deflected pass from classmate Brandon Johnson and senior Brandon Cosentino earned himself a penalty kick as insurance and the Spartans pulled through with a win over the Lions to push them into the round of 16 Thursday at No. 7 Southern.

(13) Lacey 3, (20) St. John Vianney 0

Three different Lacey players scored on goals created by senior Tanner Grozinski and the Lions (9-6) blanked the Lancers (7-5-4) to advance to the SCT round of 16 Thursday at No. 4 Middletown South.

Grozinski found junior Will Reid on a breakaway that opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Reid knocked in the cross from his senior teammate. In the 35th, Gronzinksi drew a takedown inside the 18-yard box to set up a penalty kick that senior Aiden Schmitt converted for a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore Paul Guerriero capped the scoring in the 68th minute off another assist from Grozinski.

(18) Brick 2, (15) Long Branch 1

Senior Carl Loffredo scored the equalizer in the 13th minute and classmate Gianno Godenzi delivered the game-winner on a penalty kick in the final minute of the first half before the Green Dragons (10-3) held strong on defense for the final 40 minutes in finishing off an upset of the Green Wave (10-3-1).

Loffredo scored on a breakaway to tie the game, 1-1, after junior Matheus Lopez broke the seal for Long Branch in the eighth minute. In the final seconds of the half, Loffredo beat a defender along the end-line and was tripped up inside the box as he cut it back toward the middle, leading to a penalty kick with a 11 seconds left before intermission. Godenzi bured the penalty kick to the upper right of the goal for a 2-1 lead that Brick would protect behind its defense and senior goalkeeper Devin Baldwin.

Brick moves on to face No. 2 Colts Neck Thursday in the round of 16.

(9) Toms River East 6, (24) Barnegat 0

Three different Toms River East players scored goals off assists from three different players in the first half and senior Aiden Reis added two second-half goals as the Raiders (12-4) handled the Bengals (7-7) to earn a round-of-16 road match against No. 8 Rumson-Fair Haven.

Sophomore Jose Sanchez opened the scoring in the sixth minute with his first varsity goal off a pass from senior Aiden Corapi. Junior Ayden Salazar extended the lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute off a feed from Reis and senior J.J. Reed pushed forward for a goal in the 25th off the first of two assists by sophomore Brady Gillen.

Gillen set up the first goal of the second half as well — a finish by senior Alex Heid three minutes after halftime. Three minutes later, Reis finished a pass by Salazar for a 5-0 lead and Reis later capped the scoring after collecting a pass from junior Nick DiMeola in the 53rd.

(17) Point Boro 3 (16) Central 2 (OT)

Senior Alberto Boscolo-Cegion scored the second of his two go-ahead goals 1:22 into overtime and the Panthers (9-6-1) downed the Golden Eagles (6-7) for the eighth straight win, which sends them to the round of 16 Thursday at CBA.

Senior Joe Doles assisted both goals by Boscolo-Cegion and set up the game-winner with a run that spanned nearly half the field. After Point Boro cleared out a Central free kick into the box, Doles won the ball at midfield, carried it through the middle of the field and delivered a well-placed pass between two defenders to Boscolo-Cegion making a run on the right side of the field. The senior lined up the ball from Doles and one-timed a left-footed strike just under the bar for the game-winner.

Doles and Boscolo-Cegion linked up for a go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute as well. A hand ball just outside the edge of the 18-yard box set Point Boro up with a free kick and Doles initiated the play with an on-ball touch that Boscolo-Cegion ripped to the lower right of the goal for a 2-1 Panthers lead.

The final score was Point Boro’s third lead of the game and its 1-0 lead came after senior goalkeeper Logan Forte saved a penalty kick in the ninth minute with the game still scoreless. In the 23rd minute, junior Cole Danko scored the game’s first goal after senior Dean Cardia fought through a defender and forced the ball to Danko, who emerged from a group of defenders with a clean shot that he buried inside the right post.

Central tied the game in the 54th when senior Ilyas Ciltepe ran down a pass by senior Michael Boyer and chipped it over Forte for the equalizer. Ciltepe struck again with 5:59 showing on the regulation clock, when he controlled a flick from freshman Justin DellaPietro with his chest and one-timed a left-footed strike into the right corner of the goal, tying the game at 2-2.

(14) Freehold Twp. 2, (19) Brick Memorial 1

Senior Alex Rivera scored the deciding goal on a counter-attack early in the first half and sophomore goalkeeper Giuseppe Romano saved a penalty kick in the 75th that sealed a Patriots (9-5-1) win over the Mustangs (11-6) that advances Freehold Township to the SCT round of 16 Thursday at No. 3 Toms River South.

Freehold Township jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by senior Bobby Lockard off a corner kick in the 26th minute. Nine minutes later, Brick Memorial senior Sebastian Milan connected on a 35-yard smash that pulled the Mustangs even before halftime.

In the 75th, junior Nate Stryker drew a foul inside the box to earn Brick Memorial a penalty kick, but Romano read it for the save and denied the Mustangs on their best chance of the second half.
