Manchester two-sport star Aidan Lunn ends on a high note at the Ken O’Donnell Senior All-Star Game

MIDDLETOWN – Aidan Lunn may be better known as the Manchester quarterback who set a host of school records while leading the Hawks to their best season in history last fall, but he showed on Tuesday night not to sleep on him as a basketball player.

The Hawks’ multi-sport star fit right in while playing with the best at the 2025 Ken O’Donnell Shore Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game at Brookdale Community College’s Collins Arena. He ended his senior season on a high note after a stellar year in which he was among the Shore Conference leaders in several statistical categories.

While Manchester struggled to a 6-19 season this winter amid a trying situation, Lunn lit it up in averaging 21.7 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He was third in the Shore Conference in scoring, third in rebounding and seventh in assists. It marked the second straight season in which Lunn averaged better than 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

“It was awesome getting to play all the top talent,” Lunn said about the all-star game. “You never see this many talented kids on the same court. It was so much fun getting to hoop with them. The schedule we had at Manchester, it’s hard to actually shine, but now I get to go out there and show what I can do.”

Lunn was Manchester’s lone representative, suiting up for the Ortho NJ/WCT squad in a game sponsored by the Jersey Shore Basketball League and Shore Sports Insider. On a court filled with stars from top Shore teams like St. Rose, Manasquan, Christian Brothers Academy and Central, he more than held his own.

Lunn’s Ortho NJ/WCT team won both of its games in the new All-Star format, emerging as the last team standing of the four rosters that started the night. After beating a Seaview Jeep/Robin’s Nest team led by All-Shore selections Jaycen Santucci of Central Regional, Justin Fuerbacher of Christian Brothers Academy and Red Bank Catholic’s Ryan Prior, Ortho NJ/WCT won the second game over Larson Ford, 88-83. CBA guard Kevin Pikiell hit the game-clinching three-pointer to give Ortho the victory via the Elam ending — another new feature in this year’s version of the All-Star event.

Tuesday night’s game was also a bright spot for Lunn in a season in which Manchester’s longtime head coach, Ryan Ramsay, was abruptly relieved of his position in January. Ramsay was charged earlier this month with sexual assault after being accused of having a relationship with one of his female students in 2012, according to police documents.

Manchester JV coach Erik Lang took over as head coach in the wake of Ramsay’s departure.

“One day we’re practicing with him, and the next day we have a game and he’s gone and we never heard from him,” Lunn said. “Not what we expected at all. Our JV coach, Coach Lang, he’s an amazing coach. It was like we had 1A and 1B as varsity coaches, so it was next coach up, and he was awesome.”

Lunn’s performance this winter came on the heels of a football season in which he earned Shore Sports Insider third-team All-Shore honors. Lunn is Manchester’s all-time leading passer with 3,907 yards and 36 touchdowns to go with 1,212 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns in his three-year varsity career.

He threw for 1,518 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran for 650 yards and 7 touchdowns as the Hawks won their first outright division title and their first state playoff game in school history. He was named the Class C South Player of the Year by the coaches.

“Basketball was actually my Day One sport,” he said. “I always wanted to play basketball in college until my sophomore and junior year, when I realized I’m better at football. I love playing basketball.”

He is staying on the gridiron, as Lunn will continue his football career this fall as a quarterback at Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania.
