Central Jersey Group 3

Second Round

(5) Neptune 48 (4) Colts Neck 43

Neptune held off a late Colts Neck run to advance to the Central Jersey Group 3 Semifinals. The Scarlet Fliers led 35-25 at the end of the 3rd quarter with Colts Neck cutting the margin to as low as 4 points before Neptune held on to win. Freshman Tyeera Howard led Neptune with 18 points and 5 steals while Senior Christa Ramos added 12 points in the victory. Freshman Julianna Jasina scored a team-high 18 points in the loss for the Cougars. Neptune will play top seeded Westampton Tech on the road on Tuesday.

(6) Middletown South 58 (3) Ewing 47

A strong second half helped Middletown South pull off the upset against Ewing to advance to the Central Jersey Group 3 Semifinals. The Eagles led 27-24 at the half before outscoring Ewing by 8 points in the second half to finish with the double-double margin of victory. Sophomore Samantha Orlando and Junior Ava Loucopoulos each scored 16 points apiece while Senior Caitlin Whyte narrowly missed a double-double with a 9 point and 10 rebound performance in the win for the Eagles. Middletown South will head east to Red Bank on Tuesday.

(2) Red Bank Regional 42, (10) Middletown North 28

A stifling 4th quarter defensive performance helped Red Bank Regional defeat Middletown North to advance to the Central Jersey Group 3 Semifinals. The Bucs led 30-25 at the end of 3 quarters before holding the Lions to just 3 points the rest of the way. Junior Synai Blychanton finished with a game-high 15 points while Senior Caroline Polloway scored 13 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and did a fantastic job protecting the rim with 8 blocks. Red Bank will host Middletown South on Tuesday who they swept in both regular season matchups.

Central Jersey Group 1

Second Round

(1) New Providence 61, (9) Point Beach 27

Leading by one point after the first quarter, New Providence jumped all over Point Beach in the second quarter, outscoring them 27-3 on their way to winning their second round match-up. Three players scored double-digits for New Providence with Brenna Slattery scoring a game-high 19 points. Senior Erin Frauenheim ends her Point Beach career with a team-high 9 points.

(4) Middlesex 64, (5) Shore Regional 52

Trailing 44-39 going into the fourth quarter, Middlesex outscored Shore 25-8 to close out the game and advance into CJG1 semifinal. Avery Iskra scored a game-high 20 points and Mallory Gianchiglia added 19 points for Middlesex. Both Kimi Sayson and Reese Fiore knocked down three 3-pointers for Shore with Sayson finishing with 17 points and Fiore 15 points. Middlesex ends Shore Regional’s three year run as sectional champions.

 

South Jersey Group 3

Second Round

(4) Toms River East 54, (5) Clearview 41

TRE lead 25-11 at halftime and did not look back on their way to a second round victory in SJG3. Sophomore Libby Dickman  drained four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Raiders. Dickman and Brooke Gathman helped control the boards by grabbing 10 rebounds each for TRE. Adrianna Cruz and Kacey Briles both knocked down three 3-pointers for TRE with Cruz finishing with 16 points and Briles 13 points. TRE will travel to the No. 1 seed Cherry Hill West on Tuesday in the semifinal round.
