Toms River South 9, Barnegat 3
Jaden Geremia pulverized a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first and the Indians rolled from there, topping the Bengals and delivering Jim Rankin his first win as Toms River South head coach. Thursday marked the first time since the late 1970’s that someone other than Ken Frank coached the Toms River South varsity baseball team.
Geremia also doubled home a run in the bottom of the third as part of a 13-hit Toms River South attack that included five extra-base hits. The Indians put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth inning, capped by a two-run double by Ben McEwan. Winning pitcher Aiden Lynch also doubled home a run in the third and Ryan Randall lined a two-run single in the five-run fifth.
The win was also the 199th in the career of Rankin, who went 198-116 as the head coach at Jackson Liberty during the first 14 seasons of the program’s existence.
