No. 1 CBA 6, No. 3 Ranney 3
Sophomore Ryan Wetmore singled home a run in CBA’s four-run first inning and provided some insurance in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run as the Colts closed out the Panthers to complete a regular-season sweep of a crucial, early-season Class A North series.
CBA benefitted from three walks, a hit batter and an error during the first-inning rally, including two walks and a hit batter with the bases loaded to force in three of the runs. Wetmore’s infield single made it 3-0.
Ranney chipped away at the deficit, starting with a two-run home run by sophomore shortstop Ricky Lopez to cut CBA’s lead in half, 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Robbie Wrobel roped a two-out RBI double that cut the deficit to 4-3.
After Wetmore’s two-run shot to centerfield in the top of the seventh, left-hander Dan Pardini bounced back from a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless seventh and earn his second save in the last three days vs. Ranney. Catcher Dan Tsimbinos, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, picked his pitcher up by throwing out a would-be base-stealer at second base for the second out and Pardini followed with a strikeout to end the game.

No. 8 Jackson Memorial 6, Southern 0
Nick Sirico supplied the early power with a solo home run in the top of the third inning and that was the only run Jackson Memorial starter Matt Colaneri needed as the Jaguars completed a regular-season sweep of the Rams.
Charlie Buchinsky drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to make it 2-0 and later added an RBI single to cap the scoring in the sixth. Catcher Tyler Huzzy made it 4-0 with a two-run single in the top of the fifth.
After Colaneri’s six three-hit, shutout innings, Caden Rathbauer struck out the side around a walk to close out the win.

No. 2 Toms River East 7, Donovan Catholic 3
Freshman Carson Frazier broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning for his first career hit and RBI and the Raiders rallied to beat the Griffins in a back-and-forth game.
Freshman Evan Bailey came through for Donovan Catholic with a go-ahead, two-run double with two out in the top of the sixth for a 3-2 Griffins lead. In the bottom of the inning, Toms River East shortstop Matt Ferrara started the rally with a one-out single, reached second on a passed ball and scored on a game-tying RBI single by Mike Vaccarino. The Raiders loaded the bases with a walk and a hit-by-pitch after a pop-out for the second out and Frazier delivered his clutch double that dropped into rightfield.
Winning pitcher Dan Nafziger — who struck out nine and allowed three unearned runs in six innings — capped the five-run rally in the sixth with a two-run single, then turned the ball over to sophomore Joey DiMeo to close out the victory with a scoreless seventh inning.

Monmouth 7, No. 6 Ocean 0
Centerfielder Will Theobald impacted the game with his bat and his legs while Vaughn Bociulis dealt a four-hit shutout on the mound to lead the Falcons to an all-around win over the Spartans.
Theobald went 3-for-3 at the plate, stole three bases and scored the game’s first run when he stole third base on a double-steal in the bottom of the third and came home on an errant throw. In the bottom of the fifth, Theobald beat out an infield single and scored on a two-out RBI single by catcher Bobby Davidson for a 2-0 Monmouth lead.
The Falcons put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth, which included a two-run single by Theobald to make it 4-0. Shortstop Beckett Langdon then stepped in and lined a two-run single to right field to make it 6-0 on back-to-back two-run singles.

Howell 3, Matawan 2
Logan Koeppel belted a game-winning solo home run with two out in the bottom of the seventh and the Rebels walked off with a win over the Huskies.
The two teams traded runs in both halves of the sixth inning to set up the walk-off finish in the seventh. Matawan senior Colin McGeehan ripped an RBI single to left to score Bobby Gallo with the tying run, but Connor Acker threw a runner out at third base for the second out of the inning and Xavier Cortez struck out the next batter for the final out of the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mark Vetrano led off with a single and gave way to pinch-runner Conner Halvorsen, who advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Aaron Wojenski. Howell starting pitcher Jake Jansen then drew a walk and Acker hit a ground ball to shortstop and beat out the return throw to first after Matawan got the first out at second. Halvorsen came chugging around third base on the double-play attempt and scored the tying run with two out.
After Cortez pitched around a two-out walk to spin a scoreless top-of-the-seventh, Matawan pitcher Shawn Lalevee — who closed out Monday’s win over Howell — retired the first two batters of the bottom of the seventh. Koeppel then took ball one and launched the winning homer over the leftfield fence.

Freehold Twp. 18, St. John Vianney 4 (6 Innings)
Jon Boylan hit a go-ahead two-run double and a grand slam as part of a six-RBI inning during a 13-run rally and the Patriots rode that late-game offensive explosion to a win over the Lancers.
Boylan’s double gave Freehold Township a 5-4 lead after the Patriots entered the top of the fifth trailing, 4-0, and he capped the 13-run outburst with his grand slam. Boylan added an RBI single in the sixth inning.

Brick 4, Manchester 3 (8 Innings)
After the go-ahead run scored on an error in the top of the eighth, Matt Goodfellow (2-for-2, walk) capped his perfect day at the plate with the deciding RBI single, making a winner out of Sean Savannah after the senior turned in a career outing to lead the Green Dragons over the Hawks in an extra-inning opener.
Savannah also scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth after leading off the inning by reaching on an error. Manchester reliever Tom Meyer recorded two outs before Savannah could score, but Brick could not handle James Donoghue’s firm ground ball with two out and Savannah scored from third to make it 3-2. A third error of the inning extended the frame for Goodfellow, who ripped an infield single to make it 4-2.
Brick turned to Nick Newcomb to close out the game after Savannah struck out 14 in seven innings. Newcomb walked a pair of batters while recording the first out and passed the ball to Patrick Shave, who struck out the first batter he faced before also walking a pair to force home a run. Shave fell behind, 2-0, with the tying and winning runs in scoring position, but coaxed a game-ending pop-out.
Brick tied the game in the top of the fifth on the first of Manchester’s four errors and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh with a two-out rally, capped by an RBI infield single by Chris Quick. Brick drew three straight two-out walks to set up Quick for the go-ahead RBI.
Sophomore Justyce Garcia led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and reached second on a wild pitch, but Savannah induced a pop-out and recorded a strikeout for the second out to move within an out of closing out the complete game. Anthony Carino, however, spoiled the complete-game bid with a line-drive, RBI single to leftfield that tied the game with two out. Savannah capped his 107-pitch outing with his 14th strikeout.
