Class A South

Barnegat 51, Donovan Catholic 46

Senior Jack Haviland and freshman Myles Joseph each scored 14 points and the Bengals (10-10, 1-7) rode a well-rounded effort to a win over the Griffins (5-12, 1-7) that pulls Barnegat back to .500 while giving the Bengals their first division win of the season in their final A South game.

Senior Donovan Paul added 13 points and freshman Chancellor Joseph chipped in 10 to round out the Barnegat scoring. The Bengals surged to a 35-20 lead by halftime and held on after Donovan Catholic outscored them, 16-4, in the third quarter.

Junior Gabe Feliciano scored 13 points and freshman Ethan Sulkowski added 11 to lead Donovan Catholic.

No. 7 Jackson 57, Central 53

Senior George Boley scored 19 of his game-high 29 points in the first half and battled through leg cramps in the fourth quarter to help the Jaguars (14-4, 7-1) close out the Golden Eagles (14-7, 6-2) to capture the Class A South division championship in their first year as Jackson Township High School. It is the first division championship for a Jackson school since Jackson Liberty won Class B South in 2018-19 and the first Class A South championship since Jackson Memorial won the 2013-14 title.

Sophomore Mi’Aire Anderson and senior Yaseer Johnson each added nine points, with Anderson also pulling in seven rebounds for Jackson, which seized the lead for good with 20-10 run during the second quarter, including a 9-0 run that turned a 31-26 deficit into a 35-31 lead.

Junior Derek Roth led Central with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists, with 12 of his points coming in the first quarter before he picked up his second foul and sat for most of the second. Senior Elijah Reeder added nine points, six rebounds and four blocked shots for Central.

Class B South

Brick Memorial 52, Toms River East 49

Senior Sean Collins pumped in a game-high 27 points and the Mustangs (13-8, 5-4) topped the Raiders (9-10, 3-6), delivering a major blow to Toms River East’s hopes of qualifying for the Shore Conference Tournament.

Senior Nyzier Matthews added nine points for Brick Memorial, which took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter and held off a last-minute push by Toms River East that came up short.

Sophomore Tommy Intintola scored 15 points while hauling in 15 rebounds, classmate Brady Gillen added 13 and fellow sophomore Carson Frazier threw in 10 to lead Toms River East, which will need New Egypt to beat Henry Hudson on Saturday to qualify for the SCT.

Point Boro 66, Toms River South 42

Senior Jovin Steinmetz led four Point Boro scorers in double-figures with 20 points while also grabbing eight rebounds and the Panthers (13-7, 7-3) rolled through the Indians (11-11, 2-7) to complete their pre-SCT regular season in winning fashion.

Junior Hunter Hynes threw in 18 points to go with four steals, senior Dean Cardia added 11 points and junior Landon Hoyle chipped in 10 for Point Boro. Senior Nick Carmino also dished out 11 assists to go with his two points, while freshman Chase Scarponi debuted with eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

Despite the loss, Toms River South clinched a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament thanks losses by both Red Bank and Toms River East. Senior Shane Gambarony scored 16 points and classmate Jake Myers chipped in 10 to lead the Indians.

Class C South

Brick 67, Lacey 34

Senior Erik Varela and junior Jamel Pitts each scored 14 points and Pitts delivered six steals on the defensive end as well as the Green Dragons (10-11, 8-1) kept their hopes of a division championship alive by handling the Lions (2-17, 1-8).

Senior Teagan Gilliespie led Lacey with a game-high 17 points and sophomore Andrew Baldacinni chipped in six points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots in the loss.

Although Brick can still win the outright division championship by beating Pinelands in a rescheduled game that still does not have a make-up date, the Green Dragons were eliminated from Shore Conference Tournament contention with Pinelands’ win over New Egypt.

Lakewood 63, Manchester 37

Senior Cris Rosario went off for 29 points and the Piners (2-15, 1-8) collected their first division win of the season with a resounding victory over the Hawks (5-14, 4-5) that also ended a 10-game losing streak.

Sophomore Abel Martinez added 13 points and classmate Tyrese Jones chipped in 12 for Lakewood, which outscored Manchester, 22-3, in the third quarter to blow the game open. Sophomore Justin Roberts led Manchester with nine points.

Pinelands 50, New Egypt 40

Junior Chris Husni scored 14 points and dealt out six assists to lead the Wildcats (14-4, 8-1) to a win over the Warriors (8-11, 5-4) that sets up two potential winner-take-all games for Pinelands — one for a final spot in the Shore Conference Tournament and the other for the Class C South championship.

Friday’s win by Pinelands makes its Saturday match-up at Matawan a challenge game for the final spot in the Shore Conference Tournament if Henry Hudson defeats New Egypt earlier in the morning. If Henry Hudson loses, Pinelands will likely have clinched before the start of Saturday’s game, while Matawan could still win its way in.

Pinelands is also scheduled to host Brick on a date to be determined in the final division game of the season for both teams, with the winner claiming the Class C South championship.

Junior Tyler Garcia added 12 points, junior Cayden Lucas netted nine, and junior Donny Johnston filled up the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for Pinelands. Senior Josh Barongo also controlled the glass with 10 rebounds along with five points.

Senior Nolan Arnold scored 16 points and senior Clyde Ferris added nine to lead New Egypt.

Non-Division

Manalapan 65, Red Bank 63

Senior Dean Aviles got a floater to bounce around the rim and drop with two seconds left and the Braves (8-13) pulled out a win over the Bucs (7-15) after giving up a 10-point fourth-quarter lead.

The game was the completion of a suspended game from December in which Manalapan led, 17-7, late in the first quarter when the game was put on hold due to slippery conditions on the playing surface. The loss for Red Bank eliminates the Bucs from Shore Conference Tournament contention, barring a dramatic change in their power-point strength-of-schedule multiplier — a part of the NJSIAA power-point calculation.

Aviles finished with eight points, while freshman Josh Sosinov scored a game-high 27 points and junior Grayson Ferraro poured in 16 to lead Manalapan. Junior Will Galligan pumped in 24 points and classmate Justin Valentino netted 16 to lead Red Bank, which went on a 15-5 run to turn a 58-48 deficit into a tie game, 63-63. Senior Josiah Johnson knocked down the game-tying three with 44 seconds left before Manalapan ran down the clock and gave the ball to Aviles for the final drive into the paint.

Ocean 63, Middletown North 50

Senior Aidan Saint Louis poured in 24 points and pulled in eight rebounds to lead the Spartans (15-8) to a bounce-back win over the Lions (5-16) after dropping a decision 24 hours earlier at Matawan.

Freshman Omar Ayyash added 11 points for Ocean. Junior Nate Tyburczy led Middletown North with 19 points and three steals, with senior Jack Dambaugh pitching in 11 points and senior Eddie Lopez contributing nine points and seven assists in the loss.

Non-Conference

Keansburg 77, Gateway Academy 51

Seniors A’Son Young and Jaivon Thomas-Conklin each posted an 18-point double-double and the Titans (10-9) coasted to a win over Gateway Academy (1-9).

Young made a bid for a second straight triple-double, settling for 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Thomas-Conklin grabbed 11 rebounds and swiped six steals.

Senior I’shon Young and sophomore Taurian Black each added 11 points, with Young contributing five steals and Black nabbing nine steals. Senior Milan Mraz made it five Keansburg players in double-figure scoring with 10 points and added to Keansburg’s team-total of 32 steals by picking up seven for himself.
