Sayreville 77, Donovan Catholic 59

Junior Gabe Feliciano scored 18 points to pick up the team MVP award and Donovan Catholic cut a 19-point second-half deficit to five, but the Bombers (9-5) pulled away down the stretch to turn away the Griffins (4-6).

Freshman Gerard Gallo and senior Anthony Streeter sparked a fast start for Donovan Catholic, which built a 10-point lead during the first quarter and led 20-17 heading to the second. Streeter scored all six of his points in the first and Gallo went for five of 15 points in the quarter. Senior Pat Gallo also chipped in nine points for Donovan Catholic, which has lost five straight since winning the Steve Gepp Bracket championship at the Kevin Williams Classic.

Chidi Chukwurah led Sayreville with 25 points to earn MVP honors and was one of three Sayreville players to hit the 20-point mark. Sam Jones poured in 22 and Ziyah Jones knocked down 20.

No. 9 Marlboro 57, Bayonne 52

Junior Dylan McEwan scored a game-high 19 points, including 13 in the second half, to lead the Mustangs (9-3) to a win over the Bees (10-3).

Seniors Drew Lubeck and Christian Elmasri each added 10 points, with Lubeck also grabbing 13 rebounds, handing out four assists, nabbing three steals and blocking two shots. Junior Nolan Gong kicked in nine points and six rebounds and senior Ajay Mathews handed out seven assists to go with his seven points for Marlboro.

Bayonne pulled within 53-50 with just over a minute to go, but both Jake Stone and McEwan went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds to seal the victory.

Lenape 75, No. 3 Rumson-Fair Haven 45

Junior Jaidyn Boyd scored 16 of his 24 points in the first quarter and the Indians (10-2) routed the Bulldogs (11-3) in a wire-to-wire victory in a game featuring two two-loss teams heading into the game.

Freshman Clint Martin led Rumson with 12 points and six rebounds and senior Blake Ahmann chipped in nine points and nine rebounds in the loss.

No. 10 Central 46, Toms River North 45

Junior Derek Roth scored half his team’s points for a 23-point double-double and hit the game-winning free throw with four seconds left to help the Golden Eagles (8-4) escape with a win over the Mariners (4-9).

Roth shot 11-for-14 from the free-throw line, grabbed 16 rebounds and dealt out three assists to win game MVP, while junior Tyler Woermer kicked in 10 points for Central.

Central played without 6-foot-7 forward Elijah Reeder, who was on a football visit to Penn State. Reeder was committed to Iowa State before de-committing after Iowa State coach Matt Campbell accepted the job at Penn State.

Sophomore Jake Greenberg scored 17 points to lead Toms River North. Sophomore Zeke Correa added nine points and senior Aidan Gavillon netted eight in the loss.

Cherry Hill East 66, St. Rose 43

Senior Tyler Cameron scored a game-high 20 points for the Purple Roses (1-12), but the Cougars (12-0) used a 24-point first quarter to grab early control of the game on the way to their 12th straight win to open the season.

Chris Abreu led Cherry Hill East with 19 points and Jamieson Young scored all of his 17 points in the first half in the win. Junior Marco Leonardis added 13 points for St. Rose.

No. 7 Point Beach 74, Lacey 33

Senior Elijah Ives scored 15 points and three other Point Beach players added 13 points apiece as the Garnet Gulls (12-2) sailed to a win over the Lions (2-12). Senior Jacob Edgecomb and juniors George Breckenridge and Tyler Preston each added a baker’s dozen on the score sheet for Point Beach.

Junior Kenny Monica posted 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Lacey.

Ranney 47, St. John Vianney 45

Junior Alex Heyser hit a pair of go-ahead free throws with 17 seconds left and the Panthers (6-6) pulled out a road win over the Lancers (4-10).

Heyser finished with four points and four assists, while senior Shaan Nayar led Ranney with 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Junior Andrew Mardahaev also pitched in eight points, six rebounds and three assists in the win.

Junior Nicky Mejia scored 14 points to lead St. John Vianney, with fellow junior Dan Lavan adding 11 and classmate Danny O’Neill chipping in nine.

Brick Memorial 62, Middletown South 42

Senior Sean Collins scored a game-high 23 points and the Mustangs (8-6) overpowered the Eagles (8-5) for a key non-divisional road win.

Sophomore Luka Begashvili added 15 points, senior Jason Lajara added six points and eight assists and senior Shane Braaten contributed six points and five rebounds for Brick Memorial.

Freshman Ryan Gannon scored 15 points and classmate Evan Wells added 13 to lead Middletown South.

Shore 58, Brick 48

Senior Finn Watson led a balanced scoring effort with 15 points and the Blue Devils (9-3) topped the Green Dragons (3-10) for their sixth straight win and ninth in their last 10 games.

Senior Ryan Barham backed up Watson with 14 points and brother Andrew Barham chipped in 12 points for Shore. Junior Jamel Pitts led Brick with a game-high 20 points and junior Sean Nausedas contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

No. 1 CBA 69, No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 65 (OT)

Sophomore Izayah Cooper scored nine of his 16 points during a fourth-quarter comeback and the Colts (12-2) erased a 13-point deficit with nine minutes to go before prevailing in overtime to deny the Caseys (10-3) their ninth straight victory and what would have been one of their biggest wins in program history.

Senior Charlie Marcoullier scored 11 of his 13 points after halftime, including a pair of game-tying free throws with 54 seconds left in regulation, followed by a tie-breaking three-pointer to give CBA a 64-61 lead with 1:30 left in overtime. After hitting the g0-ahead three, Marcoullier found junior Avery Lynch for a layup to extend the lead to five and senior Charlie Messano converted a three-point play to extend the CBA lead to 69-61.

Cooper pulled CBA even, 52-52, with a pair of free throws with 3:09 left, which marked the first time the Colts did not trail since RBC hit an early three to go up 3-2. RBC junior Tyler Hager answered with a pair of free throws and a scored on a layup to give the Caseys a 56-52 lead with 1:55 to play.

Lynch converted a three-point play to pull CBA within 56-55 and Hager made the first of two free throws for a 57-55 RBC lead with 1:08 left. CBA senior Connor Andree fouled out on the play.

Marcoullier’s free throws sent the game to overtime and on RBC’s first possession, Hager made a layup, but was called for an offensive foul that negated the basket and disqualified him from the game with five fouls.

Lynch finished with 12 points, junior David Buley threw in eight and Messano pitched in six for CBA.

Hager — who played for CBA coach Brian Lynch at St. Rose as a contributor off the bench last season — led RBC with 17 points, including the final five of regulation. Senior Ryan Saxton added 15 points and senior James Hankowski knocked down four three-pointers for 12 points in the loss. Junior Ryder Ciorciarri netted nine points and junior Gavin Biasi threw in eight for RBC before fouling out.

 

Non-Conference

Keyport 53, South River 35

Senior Kai Arrington scored 17 points and the Red Raiders (7-5) shook off a slow start to roll past the Rams (1-11). Junior Demetrius Attia added 12 points and senior Chris Herrara chipped in eight for Keyport, which trailed by eight coming out of the first quarter and outscored South River, 42-16, the rest of the way.

Manalapan 66, Monroe 44

Junior Joe Farino poured in 31 points and senior Dean Aviles added 18 to lead the Braves (4-6) to a lopsided win over the Falcons (2-10), snapping Manalapan’s five-game losing streak.

Pinelands 47, Pilgrim Academy 28

Senior Josh Barongo scored 11 points and pulled in eight rebounds as the Wildcats (8-2) rode a balanced scoring effort and a suffocating defense to a win over Pilgrim Academy (8-5) — their eighth win in the last nine games. Juniors Chris Husni and Cayden Lucas each added nine points and three steals for Pinelands.

Toms River South 58, Bordentown 41

Senior Shane Gambarony scored 18 points to go with five rebounds and four steals in leading the Indians (8-6) to a win over the Scotties (4-8). Senior Kharii Pringle added 14 points and nine steals, while senior Jacob Myers chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for Toms River South, which came up with 22 steals as a team.

Nottingham 58, Neptune 29

Liam Cox scored 18 points and the Northstars (8-4) doubled up the Scarlet Fliers (3-8), who were led by eight points from senior Marc Alston.

Colts Neck 49, Ferris 47

Sophomore Nate Sloane scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the second half and the Cougars (8-3) pulled out a road win over the Bulldogs (5-5) in Jersey City. Senior Dillon Younger added 15 points for Colts Neck, with 11 coming in the first half, and classmate Andrew Tomkovich pitched in eight in the win.

Hudson Catholic 67, Point Boro 62

Junior Hunter Hynes scored 26 point and the Panthers (7-5) put up 28 points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to catch up to the Hawks (7-5). Junior Landon Hoyle posted 16 points and seven rebounds, senior Jovin Steinmetz contributed eight points, six rebounds, three assists, and senior Dean Cardia threw in six points and seven assists for Point Boro.

St. Joseph’s (NY) 66, Middletown North 34

St. Peter’s (N.Y.) 69, Ocean 63

Senior Aidan Saint Louis scored 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Spartans (7-7) over St. Peter’s. Freshman Ahmad Ayyash added 12 points and Omar Ayyash chipped in 10 for Ocean.

Southern 66, Atlantic Tech 41

Juniors Noah Perna and Gavin Gerckens each posted a double-double and senior Jake Sliwinski came within two baskets and two rebounds of a triple-double as the Rams (7-5) rolled to a win over the Red Hawks (1-11).

Perna led the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while Gerckens turned in 18 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. Sliwinski, meanwhile, checked in with six points, eight rebounds and 12 assists.
