At Southern

Quarterfinals

(2) Southern 54, (7) Mainland 42

Sophomore Noah Perna scored 15 points and pulled in six rebounds to help lead the Rams (2-1) over the Mustangs (0-4) in the first round of the Score at the Shore Tournament.

Junior Jake Sliwinski added 14 points for Southern, which won the game with a 18-6 fourth-quarter edge after entering the fourth tied with Mainland, 36-36. Senior Cooper Dempsey also knocked down three three-pointers for nine points and dished out four assists in the win.

(4) Holmdel 62, (5) Holy Spirit 41

Senior C.J. Karis scored a career-high 27 points and the Hornets (2-1) steamrolled the Spartans (2-2) to advance to the semifinals of the Score at the Shore Tournament Friday against top-seeded Lenape.

Senior Joe Curreri added 12 points and senior Ire Adesina chipped in nine for Holmdel.

Non-Division

Barnegat 69, Toms River South 53

Senior Mason Krey led three Barnegat players in double-figure scoring with 21 points and the Bengals (4-0) rolled past the Indians (0-2) for their fourth straight win to open the season.

Senior Cole Toddings also netted 17 points and senior Todd Muhammad chipped in 13 for Barnegat. Senior Mark Avendano led Toms River South with a game-high 22 points.

Red Bank Catholic 68, Donovan Catholic 60

Juniors James Hankowski and Nolan Davis each scored 15 points and senior Sean Saxton posted 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists to pace the Caseys (3-0) to a win over the Griffins (1-2).

Hankowski and Davis combined for 28 of RBC’s 38 points in the first half, with Davis scoring all of his points in the first half — including 11 in the first quarter. Hankowski scored 13 of his 15 in the second quarter and Saxton netted 10 in the second half. Sophomore Gavin Biasi also scored all 10 of his points in the second half to help RBC withstand a second-half surge by the Griffins.

Senior Ryan Jacobs scored 23 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to drag the Griffins back into the game after falling behind by 19 points in the second quarter. Senior James Gibbons added 11 points and eight rebounds for Donovan Catholic, which got as close as 57-53 in the fourth quarter before the Caseys hit three-pointers on three consecutive possessions — two by Biasi and one by junior Ryan Saxton — to stretch their lead back to 66-55.

Sophomore Gabe Feliciano also scored 10 points for Donovan Catholic.

No. 4 Central 67, Wall 50

Senior Jayson King scored 17 points to go with five assists and four steals as the Golden Eagles (2-0) topped the Crimson Knights (1-2) for their second straight win to open the season.

Senior Royalty Riley added 15 points and six assists while classmate Jaycen Santucci contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists — part of a 21-assist performance by Central as a team.

Senior Demitri Tu led Wall with a game-high 18 points and junior Dan Hennessy added 13 in the loss.

Brick Memorial 70, Manchester 59

Junior Sean Collins led five Brick Memorial players in double-figure scoring with 21 points and the Mustangs (3-0) pulled away to beat the Hawks (0-3) for their third straight win to open the season.

Senior Joe Witter added 14 points and seven rebounds, junior Nyzier Matthews contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three assists, while juniors Jason Lajara and Austin Braaten each added 10 points. Lajara also pitched in five rebounds and five steals, while Braaten and Collins had three steals apiece for Brick Memorial.

Senior Aiden Lunn fell one assist shy of a triple-double for Manchester, finishing with a game-high 26 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists and four steals to lead the Hawks. Senior M.J. Goins added 12 points and freshman Justin Roberts pitched in nine in the loss.

No. 1 St. Rose 80, Rutgers Prep 63

Junior Jayden Hodge scored 20 of his 30 points in the second half and also pulled in 11 rebounds to spark the Purple Roses (3-1) to a win over the Argonauts (3-2) — their third straight since dropping an opening-night decision to Paramus Catholic and third win in three games with Hodge in the lineup.

Senior Evan Romano added 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists and sophomore Avery Lynch chipped in 11 points and three assists for St. Rose, which erased an early 8-0 lead with an 18-3 run before the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
