Class A North

Manalapan 55, No. 8 Colts Neck 54

Senior Aiden Sosinov scored 28 of his team’s 55 points and the Braves (6-6, 1-4) pulled out an upset over the Cougars (6-5, 3-2) at home despite squandering a 12-point fourth-quarter lead and shooting 2-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 36 seconds.

A pair of free throws by Sosinov gave Manalapan a 48-36 lead with 4:55 left in the game, but Colts Neck stormed back with a 16-3 run, capped by a three-point play by senior Bryce Belcher that gave the Cougars a 52-51 lead with 1:22 to play.

Sophomore Spencer Schoenfeld then answered by splitting a pair of defenders and hitting a floater in the lane to put Manalapan back on top, 53-52, with just over a minute to go. Manalapan then delivered a stop on defense and Sosinov hit 1-of-2 free throws with 36 seconds left. Senior Dan Buoncore followed by going 1-for-2 from the line to cut Manalapan’s lead to 54-53.

Sosinov went back to the line to make 1-of-2 with 12 seconds left for a 55-53 Manalapan lead. Belcher then drew a foul going to the basket, but missed the first free throw before making the second to trim the Manalapan lead to 55-54. After a pair of missed free throws by Manalapan, Colts Neck called timeout with 2.4 seconds left and found Buoncore for a three-point attempt at the buzzer, but the shot missed long as time expired.

Junior Dean Aviles finished with 18 points and Schoenfeld went for nine as the two combined with Sosinov to score all of Manalapan’s points. Senior Lukas Sloan led Colts Neck with 19 points, with Buoncore adding 13 and Belcher pitching in nine.

No. 5 CBA 66, Marlboro 43

Senior Kevin Pikiell led a well-round CBA effort with 14 points and the Colts (11-3, 6-0) rumbled to a road win over the Mustangs (6-9, 2-4).

No other CBA player reached double-figure scoring, but five players scored between six and nine points to back up Pikiell’s team-high. Senior Justin Fuerbacher poured in nine points, junior Connor Andree and sophomore David Buley each contributed eight, junior Charlie Marcoullier netted seven and junior Gavin Marlin pitched in six for CBA, which established a 33-17 halftime lead.

Sophomore Nolan Gong scored a game-high 17 points and classmate Dylan McEwan added 12 to lead Marlboro.

Freehold Twp. 83, Ranney 71

Senior Nick Cardone went off for 17 of his game-high 23 points during a huge third-quarter for the Patriots (5-7, 2-4) that powered them past the Panthers (7-5, 3-3). Cardone also grabbed nine rebounds, handed out three assists and swiped three steals.

Sophomore Jake Schultzel posted 20 points and 11 rebounds and classmate Dakota Lasater scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half for Freehold Township, which outscored Ranney, 29-15, in the third and 51-35 in the second half. Senior Jordan Dulnuan also threw in 17 points in the win.

Junior Shaan Nayar led three Ranney players in double-figure scoring with 20 points. Senior MeSean Williams netted 18 to go with three steals and senior Justin Buck pitched in 13 points, six assists and three blocked shots in the loss. Andrew Mardahaev also contributed nine points, six rebounds three assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the Panthers.

 

Class A Coastal

No. 7 Holmdel 67, Middletown South 53

Senior C.J. Karis scored 16 points and freshman Anthony Serini added 15 to lead a balanced effort that carried the Hornets (8-5, 4-2) over the Eagles (7-7, 1-5) following a fast start by Middletown South.

Junior Jack Vallillo drained 11 points and senior Daxx Corneiro chipped in nine for Holmdel, which responded to a 17-11 start by Middletown South in the first quarter with a 19-10 second quarter to take a three-point lead at halftime. The Hornets then outscored the Eagles, 18-12, in the third to take control of the game.

Senior Brady Hahn scored a game-high 24 points to lead Middletown South, with classmate Vinny Alcure added 11 and junior Matt Trimble pitching in nine in the loss.

No. 4 Red Bank 80, No. 9 Red Bank Catholic 74

Senior Zayier Dean scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to go with his five assists for the game and the Bucs (14-1, 6-0) withstood a second-half surge by the Caseys (8-7, 3-3) to pick up a win over their crosstown rivals.

After dropping eight points in the first half, Dean scored the first four points of the third quarter to extend Red Bank’s lead to 47-25 — its largest of the game. RBC then closed the third quarter on a 24-7 run, pulling within 54-49 heading to the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to Dean and RBC senior Ryan Prior, who combined to scored the first 19 points of the fourth quarter. Prior scored RBC’s first eight of the fourth, but Dean’s baskets on five consecutive Red Bank possessions netted him 11 straight Bucs points to open the quarter and offset Prior’s hot hand.

Prior scored 18 of his team-high 25 in the fourth, including all four of his three-pointers in the game. He also added eight rebounds and three assists.

Senior Ryan Fisher scored 14 of his 20 points for Red Bank in the first half and also pulled in seven rebounds. Sophomore Justin Valentino scored all 14 of his points in the first half to go with six rebounds and four assists.

Senior Sean Saxton scored 18 points and five assists for RBC, including 11 during the Caseys’ third-quarter run. Junior James Hankowski hit a pair of three-pointers in the third as part of an 11-point effort, while sophomore Gavin Biasi poured in nine and junior Jake Frankel contributed eight in the loss.

No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 88, St. John Vianney 58

Senior David Carr scored a game-high 18 points to lead 12 different scorers for the Bulldogs (10-3, 4-2) that carried them to a win over the Lancers (5-11, 0-6).

Junior Luke Cruz added 16 points, senior Riley Gill chipped in 13 and junior Luke Lydon netted 10 for Rumson-Fair Haven, which outscored St. John Vianney, 25-10, in the second quarter to overcome a one-point deficit at the end of the first quarter.

Senior Jesse Plunkett scored 16 points to lead St. John Vianney, which outscored Rumson, 20-19, in the first quarter. Sophomore Nicky Mejia also poured in 10 points in the loss.

 

Class A South

No. 3 Central 73, Toms River North 48

Senior Royalty Riley posted a 20-point double-double and classmate Jaycen Santucci fell one rebound short of pulling the same feat as the two seniors led the Golden Eagles (14-1, 6-0) to a win over the Mariners (5-10, 2-4) for their 10th straight win.

Riley finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, with Santucci pouring in a game-high 22 points to go with his nine boards. Senior Jayson King added 17 points and eight steals and sophomore Derek Roth pitched in eight points and five steals for Central.

Freshman Jake Greenberg scored 18 points to lead Toms River North, with senior Mekai Morse adding 10 in the loss.

 

Class B North

Freehold Boro 78, Asbury Park 40

Senior Brian Tassey fell two assists shy of his third triple-double in four games and the Colonials (11-6, 5-0) cruised to a road win over the Blue Bishops (0-12, 0-4).

Tassey finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists while senior Aidan Hamlin-Woolfolk led Freehold Boro with a game-high 23 points. Senior Qua’Mir Everett also threw in 10 points in the win.

Shore 46, Monmouth 32

Junior Ryan Barham scored 10 points to lead a balanced scorebook and the Blue Devils (11-3, 4-2) pushed past the Falcons (2-11, 2-4). Fellow junior Andrew Barham added nine points and classmate Jasias Colon chipped in eight for Shore.

Sophomore Logan Conrad scored nine points to lead Monmouth.

Long Branch 49, Ocean 34

Joshua Guzman scored a game-high 16 points and the Green Wave (4-10, 3-3) grabbed its second straight win by taking down the Spartans (3-11, 3-3) on the road.

Josh Da’Cruz added 11 points and Havier Gonzalez and Quentin Fisher each pitched in nine for Long Branch, which seized control of the game with a 17-6 third-quarter run after the two teams entered halftime in a 16-16 deadlock.

Freshman Brody Bell scored 14 points to lead Ocean.

 

Class B Coastal

Middletown North 63, Keansburg 42

Senior Colin Byrne racked up 25 points, six rebounds, six assists and hit seven of Middletown North’s 15 three-pointers, which highlighted a Lions (10-6, 4-1) win over the Titans (5-9, 0-6).

Junior Eddie Lopez also hit four three-pointers on the way to 14 points for Middletown North.

Henry Hudson 52, Keyport 51

Junior Billy Quinn scored a game-high 20 points, including a go-ahead layup with 17 seconds left to propel the Admirals (11-4, 4-1) to a road win over the Red Raiders (9-4, 2-3).

Quinn was one of four scorers for Henry Hudson and one of just nine in the game for both teams. Junior Michael Fitzpatrick scored 13 points, sophomore JoJo Newell poured in 12 and senior Kevin Pharo added seven for Henry Hudson, which once again played without senior Jack Fitzpatrick (illness).

Junior Kai Arrington scored 18 points and senior Nico Dispenza added 13 to lead Keyport, which missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired. Senior Andrei Matthews also chipped in nine points in the loss.

Raritan 64, Matawan 53

Junior Ian Mullan scored 21 points and the Rockets (7-8, 4-2) separated themselves from the Huskies (5-9, 2-3) with a big third quarter that earned them a key divisional win.

Sophomore Eric Berg added 15 points on five three-pointers and three steals and senior Alan Warren contributed 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for Raritan, which outscored Matawan, 19-8, in the third quarter while tying the Huskies in each of the other three quarters. Senior Sean Burnett also pitched in six points and eight assists in the win to go with his five points and junior teammate James Dillon netted nine points.

 

Non-Division

Howell 57, Brick 48

Seniors Zach Padilla and Joe Vella scored 12 points each as the Rebels (7-7) rode a 15-4 first-quarter run and a balanced offense that included nine different scorers to a win over the Green Dragons (6-9).

Sophomore Sean Nausedas led Brick with 17 points and 17 rebounds and sophomore Jamel Pitts added 15 points in the loss.

Jackson Liberty 54, Toms River East 38

Junior Aiden Brown scored a game-high 22 points and the Lions (4-7) pulled away for a win over the Raiders (5-8).

Sophomore Aidan Kelly added 10 points and five steals, while sophomore Jayden Hartnett pitched in eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for Jackson Liberty.

Freshman Brady Gillen scored 15 points and classmate Tommy Intintola netted 10 to lead Toms River East.

Donovan Catholic 57, Lacey 42

Seniors Elijah Ravenell and James Gibbons each scored 11 points to lead a balanced attack that carried the Griffins (7-8) over the Lions (3-10).

Senior Frank Smith scored a game-high 12 points and senior Jon Stabile chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Lacey.
