Shore Sports Insider Girls Basketball Week 1 Top 10 Rankings

1. Red Bank Catholic (3-0) Last Week: 1 – The Caseys opened the season with three wins against teams outside of New Jersey. RBC had an average margin of victory of 21 points in the opening week. RBC will travel to Delaware over the holiday break, where they will play in the Viking Invitational — the same showcase in which they went 2-0 last year and Christina Liggio was named MVP. When the Caseys return after the holiday break, they will begin their Shore Conference schedule.

2. St. John Vianney (4-1) Last Week: 2 – The Lancers are off to a strong start this season, winning three out of their first four games. SJV opened the season in the She Got Game Classic, where they went 2-0 with an average margin of victory of 25.5 points. SJV split their games in the Shore Games Showcase, falling to Paul VI and rebounding against No. 3 St. Rose. The Lancers are getting balanced scoring from juniors Stella Lockhart, Madison Kocis and Taylor Sofilkanich. SJV will be playing in the Holiday Hoopfest in Paterson during winter break. The Lancers play Gill St. Bernand’s, Bayonne, and Montclair Immaculate.

3. St. Rose (1-1) Last Week: 3 – St. Rose split its opening two games against two top 10 opponents to start the season. The Purple Roses opened the season with a win over No. 7 Ranney, led by Jada Lynch and Cassidy Kruesi. On Sunday, St. Rose fell to No. 2 SJV in the Shore Games showcase. The schedule does not get any easier as St. Rose travels to the Holiday Hoopfest during the holiday break to face Franklin, Rutgers Prep and Gill St. Bernard’s — three of the state’s best teams.

4. Red Bank Regional (3-0) Last Week: 4 – The Bucs opened the season with two wins against Shore Conference teams and one non-conference victory. Junior Synai Blychanton averaged 19 points per game to start the season. Red Bank Regional is looking to defend its title in the WOBM Christmas Classic and will be the No. 1 seed this week in Toms River. The Bucs face Manchester on Thursday in the opening round at RWJ Barnabas Health Arena.

5. Manasquan (2-1) Last Week: 5 – Manasquan opened the season by winning its first two games against top 10 opponents Trinity Hall and Ranney. Any questions that the Warriors would be in a transition year after graduating three starters were answered. Senior Shea Donnelly averaged 19 points per game in Manasquan’s first two games. Junior Jordyn Hollawell averaged 16.5 points per game in the Warrior’s last two games without senior Olivia Shaughnessy. Manasquan will be playing in the Holmdel Holiday Invitational during the holiday break and face North Plainfield on Saturday and Mount St. Mary on Monday.

6. Trinity Hall (2-1) Last Week: 6 – After falling to No. 5 Manasquan in the season opener, the Monarchs rebounded with a victory over No. 9 Rumson. Trinity Hall ended its week by beating Woodbury in the opening round of the Score at the Shore tournament at Southern Regional High School. Junior Grace Feeney has started the season shooting 17-of-18 from the foul line and averaging 15.6 points per game. Trinity Hall will face Mainland in the semifinal round over the holiday break.

7. Howell (2-0) Last Week: 8 – Howell opened the season winning its first two games by an average of 29.5 points. Senior Kiera McKown has averaged a double-double in those two games. The Rebels are the top seed in the Blue Devil Holiday Tournament and had an opening round bye. They will face Raritan in the second round on Friday.

8. Ranney (0-4) Last Week: 7 – Ranney had a rough start to the season, losing its first four games. Two of the defeats came against non-conference opponents and the Panthers lost to No. 3 St. Rose and No. 5 Manasquan. Senior Haly Poser is continuing where she left off last season, averaging just over 23 points per game. Ranney will look to get back on track in the Holmdel Holiday Invitational, where the Panthers face St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday and East Brunswick next Monday.

9. Rumson-Fair Haven (1-2) Last Week: 9 – Rumson started the season losing two of their first three games. The Bulldogs split their first two Shore Conference games, defeating Middletown North in the season-opener and then falling to No. 6 Trinity Hall. Rumson’s comeback effort against Saddle River Day in the Shore Games Showcase fell just short, 52-50. Sophomore Grace Smith has had a good start to the season,  averaging 12 points per game in a bigger role for Rumson this season. Rumson will play in the WOBM Christmas Classic and will be the No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs face Central Regional in the opening round on Thursday.

10. Neptune (2-1) Last Week: 10 – Neptune started the season winning two Shore Conference games while losing to Westfield in a non-conference match-up. Senior Christa Ramos started this season just like she did last year, averaging 17.6 points per game. Neptune won their opening game in the Blue Devil Holiday Tournament against Jackson Liberty. The Scarlet Fliers are the No. 3 seed and will play Shore Regional in the second round on Friday.
