SSI Girls Lacrosse Week 2 Top 10
SSI Girls Lacrosse Top 10 Rankings for April 15
1. Rumson-Fair Haven (2-3)
The Bulldogs have the unusual distinction of holding the number 1 ranking with a sub-500 record so far this season. All three of their losses occurred against teams from outside of the Shore Conference. Lawrenceville Prep, Hunterdon Central, and Moorestown are a combined 19-3 to start the season with Moorestown holding the number one ranking in the state according to NJ Advance Media. Within the Shore Conference, the Bulldogs hold impressive wins against No. 4 Red Bank Regional and No. 6 Southern. The two leading scorers from last season are back in seniors Rachel James and Daisen Iwan and the expectations to contend for both Shore Conference and state championships remain. The Bulldogs will be tested this week with two big time match-ups. Upcoming games: April 15 at No. 2 Trinity Hall; April 17 at Haddonfield
2. Trinity Hall (4-2)
The Monarchs remain unbeaten within the Shore Conference as their only losses are to Allentown (8-2) and Pingry (3-1). Trinity Hall cruised to wins over Hill (PA), Wall, and N0. 5 Middletown South and won a battle against No. 6 Southern. Senior Mary Catherine O’Connor currently leads the team with 11 goals and 10 assists. The Monarchs will get an opportunity to climb to number one with a heavyweight match-up today. Upcoming games: April 15 vs. No. 1 Rumson-Fair Haven
3. Shore (5-1)
The Blue Devils opened the season with 4 straight wins over Wall, Manalapan, No. 7 Manasquan, and No. 5 Middletown South before falling by 1 goal to No. 4 Red Bank Regional. You could make a case that 3, 4 and 5 are interchangeable in the rankings as Shore has beaten Middletown South, Middletown South has beaten Red Bank Regional, and Red Bank Regional has beaten Shore. We opted to give the nod to Shore since they currently have the least amount of losses and their loss was by only 1 goal. Senior Gabby O’Brien has been off to a strong start this season with 15 goals and 7 assists. The Blue Devils will be busy this week with 3 more games on tap. Upcoming games: April 15 vs. Princeton; April 17 vs. Holmdel; April 19 vs. Hillsborough
4. Red Bank Regional (3-2)
The Bucs hold wins over No. 8 Central, Red Bank Catholic, and No. 3 Shore who they remain ranked behind due to the triangle created by losing to Middletown South who Shore beat. The Bucs’ only other loss is to No. 1 Rumson-Fair Haven in the Ridge Road rivalry game. Juniors Karlie Ruland and Chloe Keating are off to a strong start with 12 goals apiece. Upcoming games: April 15 vs. No. 7 Manasquan
5. Middletown South (3-2)
The Eagles have 2 strong wins against No. 4 Red Bank Regional and No. 9 Toms River East. They also defeated crosstown rival Middletown North. Their loss to No. 3 Shore created a coin flip scenario between Middletown South, Shore, and Red Bank Regional with the Eagles currently getting the short end of the stick. Their other loss is to No. 2 Trinity Hall. Junior Anna Stumberger currently leads the team with 16 goals and 6 assists. A big showdown in the American Division is on tap with a trip down to Southern. Upcoming games: April 15 at No. 6 Southern; April 17 at Toms River North
6. Southern (2-2)
The Rams have a case to be as high as number three in the rankings after battling No. 2 Trinity Hall in a 9-7 game. Their only other loss is to No. 1 Rumson-Fair Haven. They hold wins over Wall and No. 7 Manasquan. Senior Avery Smith and Delaney Falk have taken on most of the scoring burden as Smith has 18 goals and 3 assists while Falk has 12 goals and 4 assists. After an impressive 9-6 opening day win against Holmdel, a young Warriors team was thrown into the fire in losses against No. 3 Shore, No. 6 Southern, and NJ Advance’s number one team in the state, Moorestown. The Warriors were competitive in both losses within the Shore Conference. Freshman Chloe Stevens has been a revelation with 7 goals and 2 assists to start the season. The schedule will not get any easier for Manasquan as their next five games are against ranked teams. Upcoming games: April 15 at No. 4 Red Bank Regional
