Quarterfinals

(2) Middletown South 4, (7) Jackson Memorial 1

Sophomore pitcher Riley Smith was in complete control on the mound as the Eagles (18-5) defeated the Jaguars (13-11) to advance to the sectional semifinals. Smith struck out 12 batters and allowed 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 earned run in a complete game. Senior CF Ella Gardner went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Freshman 3B Jordyn Cowell was 2 for 2 with a double and a walk. Sophomore C Nora Sarcone finished 1 for 2 with a double and walked on an HBP.

Junior pitcher Emily Hersh battled in the loss with 3 strikeouts and allowed 3 earned runs on 7 hits and a walk. Freshman Emma Sandoval went 1 for 2 with an RBI double. Freshman Tara Steppat was 1 for 3 and scored a run.

Middletown South will host third-seeded Colts Neck on Wednesday in the sectional semifinals.

(1) Steinert 3, (9) Matawan 0

The Huskies (12-11) fell to the Spartans (18-4) in a low-scoring affair. Junior pitcher Emma Kriegstein battled to keep the Huskies within striking distance finishing with 2 strikes outs and allowing 8 hits, 3 walks, and 2 earned runs in 6 innings. Matawan was only able to get 2 hits in the game on singles by senior 1B Isabelle Wiemer and junior 2B Stephanie Meek.

 

Central Jersey Group 1

Quarterfinals

(4) New Egypt 12, (5) Shore 1 (5 innings)

Senior pitcher Jackie Bowen allowed 7 hits and just 1 earned run as the Warriors (16-9) scored 12 unanswered runs to defeat the Blue Devils (16-9) and advance to the sectional semifinals. Senior Megan Miller went 2 for 4 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs. Freshman Caroline Davis was 2 for 3 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run. Sophomore Elizabeth Potts finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Junior Olivia Stillwell went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Senior Keira Simicsak went 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs.

Senior Angela Christopher hit a leadoff home run to the start the game in the loss for the Blue Devils.

New Egypt will travel to top-seeded Roselle Park on Wednesday in the sectional semifinals.

Lacey 6, Toms River South 3

Sophomore pitcher Bella Byk struck out 15 batters and allowed 4 hits, 4 walks, 3 hit batters, and 2 earned runs in a complete game as the Lions (12-11) defeated the Indians (9-15). Senior Sam Jackson went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Senior Samantha Kohout was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Senior Nicole Scheper finished 1 for 3 with a double, HBP, 1 RBI, and a run.

 

Nondivisional

Raritan 9, Colts Neck 4

Sophomore Holly Bellofatto went 4 for 4 with a triple, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs as the Rockets (22-4) topped the Cougars (14-10) in a battle of top ten teams. Sophomore Payton Fleming was 1 for 3 at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run. Fleming also pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 hit and 3 walks as she earned the win. Freshman pitcher Lila Houlihan pitched 5 innings and struck out 6 batters and allowed 4 hits, 4 walks, a hit batter, and 4 earned runs in relief. Senior Isabela Castillo went 1 for 2 at the plate with an RBI.
