Central Jersey Group 4

Semifinals

(1) Hunterdon Central 5, (4) Marlboro 3

The Mustangs (13-13) led 3-0 after the top of the 3rd inning before the Red Devils (22-3) clawed back into the game with 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd and 2 more in the bottom of the 6th. The Red Devils then added 2 more in extra innings in the bottom of the 8th inning to win the game.

Junior pitcher Emily Gaudio battled on the mound striking out 4 batters and allowing 11 hits, 2 walks, and 3 earned runs. Sophomore CF Isabella Wuelfing went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs. Senior SS Aimee Notaro was 1 for 3 and scored a run.

The Mustangs will lose 7 players to graduation including Aimee Notaro, Sarah Huang, and Adison Ditillo, but they will return Emily Gaudio, Isabella Wuelfing, Ashlee Chen, Alyssa Abadiatokis, and others.

 

Central Jersey Group 3

Semifinals

(3) Colts Neck 3, (2) Middletown South 2

The Cougars (15-10) defeated the Eagles (18-6) in a thriller to advance to the sectional final. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning on a line drive single to right field by senior CF Ava Burns. The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the 4th inning on a ground ball single by senior CF Ella Gardner. The Eagles extended their lead in the bottom of the 5th inning on an error put into play by sophomore SS Celia Collings. The Cougars fought back in the top of the 6th inning as junior 3B Julia Watkins scored on a wild pitch with 2 outs. Finally, in the top of the 7th inning the Cougars again scored with 2 outs as senior 1B Ellie Mager hit a fly ball which was dropped in the outfield allowing junior SS Gabriella Bryce to score. The Eagles had one more chance in the bottom of the 7th inning, but they went down 1, 2, 3.

Junior pitcher Angela Sasso earned the win for the Cougars as she struck out 9 batters and allowed 4 hits, 4 walks, and 1 earned run. Burns finished 1 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Sasso was 2 for 4 at the plate. Gabriella Bryce went 1 for 4 including the game winning run. Freshman LF Adrianna Bryce walked twice and scored a run. Junior Gabriella Saveriano went 1 for 1 with a walk.

Gardner was 1 for 3 with an RBI in the loss for the Eagles. Sophomore C Nora Sarcone went 2 for 3 with a run. Senior Aileen Henderson went 1 for 1.

The Cougars will travel to top-seeded Steinert in the sectional championship on Friday.

The Eagles will lose 3 seniors in Ella Gardner, Aileen Henderson, and Rebecca Dura. They will return talented players such as Riley Smith, Celia Collings, Jordyn Cowell, Nora Sarcone, and more.

 

Central Jersey Group 2

Semifinals

(1) A.L. Johnson 5, (4) Raritan 0

The Rockets (22-5) saw their season come to an end at the hands of the Crusaders (25-3). Sophomore pitcher Payton Fleming and freshman pitcher Katelyn Ruta battled as they combined to allow just 5 hits, 3 walks, and 4 earned runs in the loss. Sophomore Abigail Peter went 2 for 3. Senior Julia DelMasto had a double.

While the Rockets season came to an end, they managed to tie the school record with 22 victories on the season. They lose just 3 seniors in Julia DelMasto, Kiernan Mulligan, and Isabela Castillo. They will return numerous up-and-comers such as Holly Bellofatto, Janelle Clausi, Abigail Peter, Katelyn Ruta, Payton Fleming, and more. The future is bright in Hazlet.

Semifinals

(1) Roselle Park 3, (4) New Egypt 1

 

Regular Season

Wall 8, Manasquan 7

The Crimson Knights (10-9) scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th and held on in the bottom of the 7th to defeat the rival Warriors (5-13) in their final game of the season. Senior pitcher Emily Gill went 2 for 4 at the plate with a home run, 2 RBIs, and a run. Gill struck out 11 batters on the mound and allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in the win. Freshman Mackenzie Williams was 2 for 5 with a triple, an RBI, and 2 runs. Senior CF Molly Stopera finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Sophomore C Addison Lawrence was 2 for 4 with a double and scored 2 runs.
