Week 2 Shore Conference Football Divisional Players of the Week

In addition to our weekly polls where readers can cast their votes for the Shore Conference Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, Shore Sports Insider will recognize players of the week in all three phases for each of the Shore Conference’s seven divisions.

 

Week 2 Shore Conference Football Divison Players of the Week

 

CLASS A NORTH

Offense

Nick Thomas, Sr., WR, Rumson-Fair Haven

Thomas caught six passes for 112 yards and a touchdown – all in the first half – when No. 2 Rumson defeated Marlboro, 35-6, in a Class A North game.

 

Defense

James Forsyth, Sr., DE, Red Bank Catholic

Forsyth recorded 7 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss and recovered a fumble when the No. 3 Caseys defeated Long Branch, 41-7, for their first win of the season.

 

Special Teams

Carson Memmott, Sr., K, Rumson-Fair Haven

Memmott went 5-for-5 on extra points and also intercepted a pass on defense in the No. 2 Bulldogs’ 35-6 win over Marlboro.

 

 

CLASS A SOUTH

Offense

Cam Thomas, Sr., WR/DB/PR, Toms River North

Thomas was electric in No. 1 Toms River North’s 54-10 wipeout of No. 8 Jackson Memorial by catching four passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and returning a punt 50 yards for a touchdown. He also had a key tackle on defense when he chased down Jackson Memorial running back Jonah Glenn at the 4-yard line, saving a touchdown on a drive where the Mariners held the Jaguars to a field goal. He had a highlight-reel 51-yard touchdown reception that was featured on ESPN’s “You Got Mossed!” segment.

 

Defense

Colin Obser, Sr., LB, Point Boro

The No. 6 Panthers rallied in the second half for a 30-14 win over No. 4 Donovan Catholic and Obser played a major role with a team-high 18 tackles, including 12 solo stops, and a key fumble recovery that led to a touchdown.

 

Special Teams

Nick Spanola, So., KR, Point Boro

Spanola began Friday night’s 30-14 win over Donovan Catholic with a bang by returning the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. He had a great all-around game with 72 yards rushing on 15 carries and an interception on defense.

 

 

CLASS B NORTH

Offense

Noah Cancela, Sr., WR, Freehold Township

Cancela set career-highs with nine receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown when the Patriots won a 20-14 overtime thriller over Ocean.

 

Defense

Johnathan Kokotis, Jr., LB, Freehold Township

Kokotis was omnipresent in the Patriots’ 20-14 overtime victory over Ocean with a career-high 16 tackles (10 solo), three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

 

Special Teams

CLASS B SOUTH

Offense

James Hirtes, Jr., QB, Brick

Hirtes ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, completed 5 of 5 passes for 32 yards and went 5-for-5 on extra points in the Dragons’ 35-7 win over Lacey.

 

Defense

Elijah Reeder, Jr., LB, Central

Reeder recorded a team-high four tackles for loss among his eight total stops to lead the defensive charge in Central’s 28-7 win over Toms River East to improve to 3-0.

 

Special Teams

Keegan Foote, Sr., K, Southern

Foote connected on a field goal, ran for a 2-point conversion and had an excellent day punting during the Rams’ 24-8 win over Toms River South.

 

 

CLASS C NORTH

Offense

Adbul Turay, So., RB, St. John Vianney

Turay’s breakout season continued with a career-best performance in the No. 9 Lancers’ 33-19 win over No. 7 Holmdel. The standout back ran for a career-high 223 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries and caught three passes for 102 yards. He also had 11 tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss on defense, including a crucial stop on fourth down in the red zone.

 

Defense

Nick Leone, Sr., DE, Manalapan

Leone had six tackles with two tackles for loss to help lead a balanced defensive effort that held down a potent Manasquan rushing attack in a 35-7 victory.

 

Special Teams

Dennis Healy, Sr., LB, Manalapan

Healy blocked two punts, one of which led to a touchdown, in the Braves’ 35-7 win over No. 12 Manasquan. 

 

 

CLASS C SOUTH

Offense

Aidan Lunn, Sr., QB, Manchester

After missing a Week 1 loss to Southern with an injury, Lunn returned with authority by completing 13 of 17 passes for a career-high 290 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for the go-ahead touchdown with eight seconds left as the Hawks rallied in the final 41 seconds for a thrilling 30-26 win over Pinelands.

 

Defense

Jamison Prince, Sr., DB, Barnegat

Prince intercepted a pass, broke up another and forced two fumbles when the Bengals defeated Jackson Liberty, 42-14.

 

Special Teams

Anthony Dringus, So., K, Barnegat

Dringus had plenty of work and went a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points when the Bengals defeated Jackson Liberty, 42-14, for their second straight game scoring over 40 points.

 

 

CLASS D NORTH

Offense

Lucas Burgos, Jr., RB, New Egypt

Burgos erupted for a career-high 218 yards rushing and a touchdown on 21 carries as the Warriors improved to 2-0 with a 24-6 win over Asbury Park.

 

Defense

Jarairya Jean, Jr., LB, Neptune

Jean had a monster game in Neptune’s 37-7 win over Keansburg with 12 total tackles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss and a safety.

 

Special Teams

Kemar Archer, Jr., PR, Neptune

Archer returned a punt 51 yards for a touchdown when the Scarlet Fliers pulled away in the second half for a 37-7 win over Keansburg to improve to 2-1.
