NJSIAA Tournament – Sectional Championships

South Jersey Group 4

(1) Kingsway 7, (2) Southern 6

The Rams (15-6) fell to the unbeaten Dragons (22-0) in a heartbreaker. Southern led 6-5 at the end of three quarters before Kingsway struck back with two goals in the final quarter. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Sininsky scored four goals in the loss and senior midfielder Joe Kessler and sophomore attackman Shea O’Donnell both netted one goal apiece. Senior goalie AJ Mattern made eight saves.

Southern will be hit hard by graduation as it loses 11 seniors, including Kessler, Mattern, attackman Liam Griffin, and FOGO Collin Markoski. They will return several productive underclassmen, including Sininsky, O’Donnell, sophomore attackmen Cash McVey and Niko Iliescu.

South Jersey Group 2

(1) Manasquan 9, (2) Wall 7

Senior attackman Brandon Kunz delivered three goals and one assist and senior goalie Pat Loxley made eight saves, including a key stop with 90 seconds left in a one-goal game, as the Warriors held off the Crimson Knights to win their sixth sectional title in program history.

Manasquan led 4-2 at halftime and 7-4 heading to the fourth quarter before Wall used consecutive goals by junior midfielder Patrick Freud in a span of 43 seconds to pull within a goal with 3:50 left. Loxley’s save on junior attackman Wyatt Capro with 1:32 to play kept Manasquan in front and Kunz beat Wall’s 10-man ride for a goal with 57 seconds left for an 8-6 lead. Kunz added another empty-net goal with 35 seconds left before Wall senior Mikey Hoarle scored off the ensuing face-off with 27 seconds left. Manasquan won the next face-off and ran out the clock to return to the Group 2 state final.

Senior midfielder Matt Schneider, senior defenseman Parker Harms, senior LSM James Cadott, senior attackman Ryan Aldi, and sophomore attackman Kieran Schneider each scored once for Manasquan.

Freud scored a game-high four goals for Wall and senior goalie Braeden Buckley was excellent with 14 saves. Capro scored twice and Hoarle had one goal. Hoarle, who is signed to Bryant University, took face-offs for the first time since his sophomore year due to an injury that kept him out for most of his junior season. He unofficially went 10-for-14 at the X.

Manasquan will play Hopewell Valley in the Group 2 state championship game at a yet-to-be-announced neutral site on either Friday or Saturday. Hopewell defeated Sparta, 8-5, to win the North Group 2 title for their first sectional title in program history.
