Central Jersey Group III

(5) Hopewell Valley 58, (12) Red Bank 46

Junior Justin Valentino scored a game-high 15 points, but the Bucs (11-16) could not overcome a 17-7 start by the Bulldogs (18-6), who advance to the sectional quarterfinals Monday at No. 4 Middletown South.

Senior Josiah Johnson added eight points for Red Bank, which cut its 10-point deficit to six by halftime, but was behind by 10 again by the start of the fourth quarter. Ty Becker matched Valentino with a game-high 15 points to lead Hopewell Valley.

(2) Westampton Tech 68, (15) Middletown North 59 (OT)

Senior Eddie Lopez capped his high school career with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots and the Lions (8-19) mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback to send the game to overtime, but the Panthers (20-8) found their footing in overtime and dodged the upset bid.

Junior Nate Tyburczy led Middletown North with 16 points, five assists and four steals while freshman teammate Nick DiGiovanni posted 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Lions, which outscored Westampton Tech, 23-13, in the fourth quarter to earn an extra four minutes. Senior Robert Kimball also pitched in eight points in his final game for Middletown North.

Senior Alexander Jeanty scored his 1,000th career point in the game and led the Panthers with 22 points, three assists, four steals and two blocks. Westampton Tech will host No. 7 Burlington Township Monday in the sectional quarterfinals.

(9) Colts Neck 49, (8) Nottingham 32

Sophomore Nate Sloane took over with a game-high 25 points and the Cougars (13-12) began their Group III title defense by going on the road and beating the Northstars (16-11). The win earns Colts Neck a trip to play top-seeded Lawrence Monday in the sectional quarterfinals.

Senior Aidan Bain hit three three-pointers for nine points and senior Dillon Younger chipped in eight points for Colts Neck.

(11) Northern Burlington 49, (6) Brick Memorial 40

Senior Nyzier Matthews scored 12 points and classmate Sean Collins came up one point shy of a double-double, but the Greyhounds (17-11) knocked out the Mustangs (15-11) in the opening round to earn a trip to play No. 3 Ewing in Monday’s quarterfinal round.

Collins finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, while senior Jason Lajara added 10 points for Brick Memorial. Quincy Washington scored a game-high 21 points to lead Northern Burlington, which outscored Brick Memorial, 28-11, during the second and third quarters after falling behind, 15-8, after one.

(4) Middletown South 98, (13) Allentown 63

Freshman Ryan Gannon scored a game-high 23 points and senior Michael Fitzpatrick poured in 20 as all five Middletown South starters scored in double-figures to ignite a scoring explosion by the Eagles (15-11) against the Redbirds (11-15).

Freshman Evan Wells and senior Beckett Oliver chipped in 15 points each and senior Matt Trimble contributed 11 points for Middletown South, which will host No. 5 Hopewell Valley Monday in the sectional quarterfinals.

(7) Burlington Twp. 79, (10) Matawan 56

Sophomore Cayson Williams led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points, but the Huskies (11-14) fell into an 11-point halftime hole and surrendered 31 points in the third quarter that powered the Falcons (14-12) to a round-one win.

Senior Colin Reitman and sophomore Ace Jackson each added nine points for Matawan. Andrew Larbie poured in a game-high 20 points to lead Burlington, which will travel to No. 2 Westampton Tech for Monday’s sectional quarterfinals.

(3) Ewing 76, (14) Brick 32

 

Central Jersey Group I

(4) Shore 65, (13) Roselle Park 41

Junior Kedo Sayson led five Shore players in double-figure scoring with 14 points and the Blue Devils (20-6) squashed the Panthers (7-18) to reach the sectional quarterfinals on Monday, which they will host against the winner of No. 5 Piscataway Magnet and No. 12 New Providence.

Senior Finn Watson added 13 points for Shore, while senior Andrew Barham, senior Ryan Barham and junior Maddox Paulin each threw in 10 in the win.

(2) Point Beach 64, (15) Perth Amboy Magnet 23

Senior Jacob Edgecomb led a balanced scoring effort with 18 points and the Garnet Gulls (19-7) sailed to a win over Perth Amboy Magnet (10-12) to earn a sectional quarterfinal home game Monday vs. No. 10 Dayton.

Senior Elijah Ives added 16 points and junior Tyler Preston threw in 13 for Points Beach.

(8) Henry Hudson 54, (9) Bound Brook 47

Junior JoJo Newell went for 16 points, 20 rebounds, three assists and six blocks for his 25th double-double in 26 games and senior Billy Quinn delivered four key plays in the final 90 seconds to help the Admirals pull past the Crusaders and into the sectional quarterfinals for the third straight season.

Bound Brook took its first lead of the game, 47-46, on a three-pointer by Titus Goodwin with 1:40 left in the game, but Quinn struck back with a corner three-pointer with 1:22 remaining, giving Henry Hudson a 49-47 lead.

Quinn then came up with a steal on the other end and hit a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to 51-47. The senior guard came through one more time by striping the ball on defense, leading to another Bound Brook turnover with under a minute to go. Newell then cleaned up an offensive rebound and put back a layup for a 53-47 lead.

Quinn finished with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals, while classmate Blakely Smith also scored 10 points, including three three-pointers. Smith threes on each of Henry Hudson’s first two possessions of the game as the Admirals raced out to an 11-0 lead. Junior Masio Tucker scored all seven of his points in the first half and also pulled in nine rebounds.

Henry Hudson moves on to play at top-seed and defending Group I champion Thrive Charter on Monday night.

South Jersey Group III

(5) Cumberland 79, (12) Toms River East 50

Pat Crawford scored a game-high 21 points and Kaleb Green drained five three-pointers on the way to 20 points to lead the Colts (21-8) to a first-round win over the Raiders (13-13) that sets them up with a sectional semifinal trip to No. 4 Delsea.

Sophomore Brady Gillen scored 16 points and classmate Tommy Intintola added 14 to lead Toms River East.

(4) Delsea 52, (13) Pinelands 39

Junior Chris Husni scored 18 points to help the Wildcats (16-9) hang close with Delsea into the final minutes, but the Crusaders (15-11) finished the game on a 13-3 run over the final 2:30 to prevail.

Luke Van Auken scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter, including nine in the final 2:30 to help Delsea pull away. Sophomore Mason Gomes delivered Pinelands eight points off the bench in the loss.

(7) Toms River South 39, (10) Moorestown 36

Senior Shane Gambarony scored 14 points to lead the Indians (15-12) to a hard-fought, round-one win over the Quakers (11-15), which earns them a home game in the sectional quarterfinal against No. 15 Mainland. The Mustangs upset No. 2 Shawnee on Friday night.

Senior Jacob Myers added 10 points, five rebounds and four steals while classmate Kharii Pringle pitched in seven points and three steals for Toms River South.

 

South Jersey Group I

(14) New Egypt 42, (3) Haddon Twp. 36

Senior Ryan Reynolds connected on four three-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Warriors (12-14) to a round-one upset of the Hawks (21-7), which sends New Egypt to the sectional quarterfinals Monday at No. 6 Penns Grove.

Senior Nolan Arnold poured in 14 points to, along with Reynolds, account for 33 of the team’s 42 points. New Egypt held Haddon’s leading scorers under their season average, with Nate Keating scoring 11 points and Axel Mohr contributing eight. Both players entered the game averaging 13.9 points per game.

 

South Jersey Non-Public B

(6) Ranney 64, (11) Calvary Christian 26

Sophomore Jordan Rue scored a game-high 15 points and the Panthers (14-11) rolled through Calvary Christian (7-17) and into the sectional quarterfinals Monday at No. 3 Holy Spirit.

Junior Alex Heyser added 14 points and three assists, classmate Andrew Mardahaev chipped in 1o points and three blocked shots, junior Ben Schaeffer netted eight points, and sophomore Eyan Antoine posted six points and 10 rebounds for Ranney.

(8) St. Rose 62, (9) Princeton Day 33

Sophomore Ajay Catania pumped in a game-high 17 points to lead four St. Rose scorers in double-figures as the Purple Roses (7-20) pounded the Panthers (7-14) to reach the sectional quarterfinals Monday at top-seeded Rutgers Prep in a rematch of last year’s sectional final.

Senior Tyler Cameron pitched in 14 points, classmate O’Rien Campbell threw in 13 and junior Marco Leonardis contributed 10 for St. Rose.
