Class A North

No. 1 CBA 57, No. 8 Manasquan 51

Connor Andree scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dealt three assists and blocked two shots to star on his Senior Night as the Colts (19-3, 10-0) prevailed against another stiff challenge from the Warriors (11-8, 6-4) to finish the regular season a perfect 11-0 vs. the Shore Conference.

With CBA starting four seniors along with sophomore Izayah Cooper to open the game, Manasquan raced out to a 12-2 lead behind 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. CBA seized control of the game from there and built its lead to 43-30 with under two minutes to go in the third quarter.

Manasquan, however, surged back with a 14-2 run that pulled them within 45-44 with just under four minutes to go. The comeback was similar to the first meeting, when Manasquan nearly erased a 17-point deficit with 10:30 left, pulling to within one with 3:30 left.

With its lead down to one, CBA got a lift from junior Avery Lynch, who scored four of his six points on back-to-back possessions to stretch the lead back to five, 49-44. Andree then picked off a pass and took it in for a layup that put CBA ahead, 51-44, with 2:12 to play.

Cooper scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half and also handed out four assists for CBA. Senior Charlie Messano scored seven of his nine points in the second half to go with five rebounds.

Junior Sean Bilodeau led Manasquan with 19 points on four three-pointers, while junior Logan Cleveland added 16 points and five rebounds. Junior John Visceglia also netted 11 points on three three-pointers in the loss.

No. 10 Holmdel 61, Red Bank 49

Sophomore Anthony Serini scored a game-high 21 points and the Hornets (11-5, 6-4) outscored the Bucs (7-14, 2-8), 35-20, in the second half to overcome a three-point halftime deficit and clinch a share of the Class A North public division championship along with Manasquan.

Senior Jack Vallillo poured in 16 points and classmate Connor Paul added 15 for Holmdel. Junior Will Galligan led Red Bank with 18 points and five steals, with senior Josiah Johnson adding 14 in the loss.

Red Bank will have to rally to defeat Manalapan on Friday in a suspended game to have a chance at qualifying for the Shore Conference Tournament. Manalapan will begin play Friday leading Red Bank, 17-7, late in the first quarter.

No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 79, St. Rose 43

 

Class A Central

No. 9 Freehold Twp. 72, Middletown South 59

Juniors John O’Neill and Jake Schultzel combined for 51 points and the Patriots (11-8, 5-5) used a 16-0 run during parts of the third and fourth quarter to turn a slight deficit into a resounding road win over the Eagles (12-8, 6-4).

O’Neill led the way with 27 points and Schultzel poured in 24 to pace the Freehold Township offense. The Patriots trailed by two at halftime and 38-36 past the midway point of the third, when the 16-0 run catapulted them to a 14-point lead that crew as high as 16.

Freshman Ryan Gannon scored 18 points to lead a well-rounded Middletown South attack in which five players scored at least eight points. Fellow freshman Evan Wells poured in 13, senior Matt Trimble added 10 and seniors Michael Fitzpatrick and Nick Cannizzaro each chipped in eight for the Eagles.

No. 5 Howell 48, St. John Vianney 47

Junior Eddie Garcia led a balanced scoring effort with 12 points and senior Cayden Parker added to it with 11 as the Rebels (16-4, 7-3) battled past the Lancers (5-17, 1-9) after trailing by two heading into the fourth quarter.

Junior Justin Togans scored a game-high 22 points to lead St. John Vianney, which held Howell’s potent offense to 29 points through the first three quarters.

No. 2 Wall 56, Manalapan 48

Senior Dan Hennessy scored 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds to help the Crimson Knights (17-0, 10-0) claw past the Braves (7-13, 1-9) to complete a perfect regular season against both their division and all Shore Conference teams on their schedule.

Senior Jake DeBrito added 13 points, senior Brian McKenna chipped in 11 points, six rebounds and three assists, and senior Liam Killea contributed nine points and five assists for Wall, which improved its season-long winning streak to 17.

Junior Grayson Ferraro scored 14 points, while senior Dean Aviles, junior Joe Farino and freshman Josh Sosinov each added nine for Manalapan, which was within 27-25 of the Shore’s last remaining unbeaten team at halftime.

 

Class B North

Ranney 70, Freehold Boro 51

Junior Ben Shaeffer turned in a career-best 24 points to go with three assists and three steals as the Panthers (11-7, 7-3) handled the Colonials (6-14, 1-9) for their fifth straight win.

Senior Shaan Nayar poured in 18 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists for Ranney and junior Andrew Mardahaev added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists in the victory. Junior Alex Heyser also aided the winning cause with seven points, five assists and three blocked shots.

Senior Mike Cush carried the Freehold Boro offense with a game-high 25 points.

No. 3 Marlboro 68, Middletown North 51

Junior Nolan Gong drained five three-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points and the Mustangs (15-4, 7-3) overcame the absence of leading scorer Dylan McEwan (concussion protocol) to beat the Lions (5-15, 1-9).

Gong also passed out five assists, while senior Ajay Mathews added 15 points and six assists and classmate Christian Elmasri pitched in 14 points and six rebounds for Marlboro. Senior Drew Lubeck also contributed eight points, 11 rebounds and three assists in the win.

McEwan misses his second straight game while in concussion protocol, but is now cleared to return to practice on Friday, Marlboro coach James Reuter said.

Senior Bobby Kimball scored 11 points, junior Nate Tyburczy netted 10 and senior Eddie Lopez chipped in nine to lead Middletown North.

No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 65, Colts Neck 38

Junior Tyler Hager brought down the house with six dunks and finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots to power the Caseys (16-5, 8-2) to a rout of the Cougars (11-8, 6-4), which clinches RBC its first outright division championship in four years.

Junior Gavin Biasi led Red Bank Catholic with 18 points and 10 rebounds while senior James Hankowski drained five three-pointers on the way to 17 points win the victory.

Class B South

Point Beach 83, Toms River North 66

Junior George Breckenridge went off for 27 points and the Garnet Gulls (17-5, 8-2) exploded for 33 points in the third quarter to race past the Mariners (7-13, 3-6) and capture the outright Class B South championship — Point Beach’s first outright division title since 2014-15.

Senior Elijah Ives scored 12 of his 18 points during the third-quarter hot streak, which turned a 31-31 halftime deadlock into a comfortable Point Beach lead. Breckeridge scored eight in the quarter and junior Tyler Preston added seven of his 10 points in the third as well. Junior Ryan Mahoney contributed nine points for Point Beach.

Sophomore Zeke Correa led four Toms River North players in double-figure scoring with 16 points. Senior Bryce Kazanowsky and junior Jackson Sias each added 11 points and sophomore Jake Greenberg threw in 10 for the Mariners, who were officially eliminated from Shore Conference Tournament contention with the loss.
