No. 1 CBA 65, Red Bank 46
Senior Connor Andree led a balanced attack with 13 points and 12 different CBA players scored a basket in a win for the Colts (18-3, 9-0) over the Bucs (7-13, 2-7).
Sophomore Izayah Cooper and seniors Charlie Messano and Charlie Marcoullier each added eight points for CBA, which seized control of the game with a 22-4 second-quarter run that gave the Colts and 31-8 halftime lead.
Senior Vin Niesz led Red Bank with 13 points, with junior Justin Valentino chipping in nine and classmate Jack Forsyth adding eight in the loss.
No. 8 Manasquan 43, No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 32
Sophomore Sean Bilodeau scored all 12 of his points in the second half and senior Jack O’Reilly and Logan Cleveland each hit key three-pointers to complement their interior play as the Warriors (11-7, 6-3) outlasted the Bulldogs (13-7, 4-5) to earn a season split with their Group II rivals, with the road team winning each game.
Bilodeau hit three three-pointers in the second half to help spark a Manasquan offense that had scored only eight points by the 1:30 mark of the second quarter. His first three-pointer gave Manasquan a 21-29 lead that was the team’s first lead since 2-0 in the opening minutes. Bilodeau also dished out three assists in the game.
Cleveland added 10 points and nine rebounds while O’Reilly posted nine points, nine rebounds and three assists for Manasquan, which outscored Rumson, 18-7, in the fourth quarter.
Senior Luke Cruz led Rumson with 17 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots before fouling out with under two minutes to go in the game. Senior Blake Ahmann added nine points and seven rebounds for Rumson.
Class A Central
Manalapan 68, St. John Vianney 63
Junior Joe Farino struck for 21 points and the Braves (7-12, 1-8) topped the Lancers (5-16, 1-8) to land their first divisional win of the season within Class A Central.
Freshman Josh Sosinov poured in 16 points and junior Spencer Schoenfeld pitched in 15 for Manalapan. Junior Justin Togans netted 23 and classmate Danny O’Neill added 16 to lead St. John Vianney.
Class A South
Southern 63, Donovan Catholic 58
Senior Jake Sliwinski scored 14 points while adding five rebounds, seven assists and three steals on Senior Night and the Rams (10-8, 5-3) held off the Griffins (5-11, 1-6) with five players scoring in double-figures.
Junior Gavin Gerkens posted 14 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots, while junior Noah Perna pitched in 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals for Southern. Juniors Anthony Buczynski and Josh Brofman combined for 23 points and seven three-pointers for the Rams, with Buczynski scoring 12 points and four three-pointers and Brofman contributing 11 points on three threes.
Senior Pat Gallo scored a game-high 18 points and freshman brother Gerard Gallo added 17 to lead Donovan Catholic. Junior Gabe Feliciano chipped in 11 points in the loss.
No. 7 Jackson 54, Barnegat 35
Senior George Boley scored 24 points while passing out four assists to lead the Jaguars (13-4, 6-1) to a win over the Bengals (8-10, 0-7) that sets up a winner-take-all game vs. Central Friday night at Jackson High School, with the outright Class A South division championship on the line.
Sophomore Mi’Aire Anderson added eight points for Jackson, which made life easier for itself Tuesday by going 13-for-15 (86.7 percent) from the free-throw line in the game. Freshman Myles Joseph scored 10 points and twin brother Chancellor Joseph added nine to lead Barnegat.
Class B North
Colts Neck 53, Freehold Boro 44
Sophomore Nate Sloane scored a game-high 19 points to lead a Colts Neck trio that combined for 46 of the team’s 53 in a Cougars (11-7, 6-3) win over the Colonials (6-13, 1-8) that keeps Colts Neck in the running for a share of the Class B North division championship in what is a four-team race for the title.
Senior Dillon Younger added 16 points and classmate Liam Collura added 11 for Colts Neck, which will play at Red Bank Catholic Thursday with a chance to force a four-way tie for the division championship with a win over the Caseys. A win by RBC — which beat Colts Neck, 48-43, in the first meeting between the two teams in Colts Neck — would give the Caseys the outright division championship.
The four-way tie between RBC, Colts Neck, Marlboro and Ranney would come to pass with wins by Colts Neck, Marlboro vs. Middletown North and Ranney vs. Freehold Boro — all of which will be played on Thursday night.
Senior Mike Cush scored 15 points to lead Freehold Boro.
Class B South
Toms River South 67, Point Beach 65
Senior Jake Myers turned in a career-best performance with 28 points and 16 rebounds and the Indians (11-9, 2-6) knocked off the division-leading Garnet Gulls (16-5, 7-2) to momentarily deny Point Beach the outright division championship while also significantly increasing their own chances to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament thanks to a significant power-point haul that comes with beating the 16-win Garnet Gulls.
Senior Shane Gambarony scored 15 points and classmate Kharii Pringle added 12 for Toms River South, which entered the week fractions of a point behind Pinelands for the final spot in the SCT and will bump up comfortably into the field with Tuesday’s win over Point Beach.
Junior George Breckenridge 17 points as all five Point Beach starters reached double-figure scoring. Senior Jacob Edgecomb netted 16 points, juniors Tyler Preston and Ryan Mahoney each threw in 11 and senior Elijah Ives chipped in 10 for Point Beach, which can still clinch the program’s first outright division championship since 2015 with a win over Toms River North at home on Thursday.
Brick Memorial 65, Toms River North 57
Senior Sean Collins poured in a game-high 25 points, including the 1,000th point of his high school career to lead the Mustangs (12-8, 4-4) to a win over the Mariners (7-12, 3-5).
Senior Nyzier Matthews added 15 points and five assists for Brick Memorial. Sophomore Jake Greenberg scored 16 points, with senior Jayden Thomas adding 13 and junior Jackson Sias throwing in 10 to lead Toms River North.
Point Boro 67, Toms River East 65 (2 OT)
Senior Jovin Steinmetz scored 20 points and hit the game-winning three-pointer from college distance with two seconds left in the second overtime, delivering the Panthers (12-7, 6-3) a thrilling win over the Raiders (8-9, 3-5) that keeps their hopes of a Class B South division co-championship alive.
Sophomore Tommy Intintola gave Toms River East a 65-64 lead with 1:04 left on a short-jumper that he hit as he was fouled. Intintola missed the free-throw, but the Raiders held Point Boro on the ensuing possession, only to give the ball back with 32 seconds left on a jump ball.
Point Boro used a timeout with nine seconds left and gave the ball to senior Dean Cardia, who ran and pick-and-pop with Steinmetz. Cardia flipped the pass to Steinmetz, who nailed the top-of-the-key three to catapult Point Boro into the lead with two seconds left. Sophomore Brady Gillen’s desperation heave from halfcourt came up short to seal the Panthers win.
Steinmetz also hit two game-tying free-throws with 49 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime and junior Hunter Hynes nailed a game-tying three-pointer to knot the game, 60-60, with 55 seconds left in the first overtime. Point Boro then forced a Toms River East turnover with 11 seconds left and missed a shot at the overtime buzzer to send the game to double overtime.
Junior Nick Carmino netted 14 points and dished out six assists while Cardia finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals for Point Boro, which is now one game behind Point Beach for first place in the Class B South standings. The Panthers can clinch a share of the division title with a Toms River North win over Point Beach on Thursday, followed by a win by Point Boro Friday at home vs. Toms River South — the team that knocked off Point Beach tonight to keep Point Boro’s hopes of a title alive.
Intintola and Gillen each scored 16 points to lead Toms River East, with Intintola also inhaling 16 rebounds and Gillen dealing five assists. Senior Shamus O’Grady added 12 points and seven rebounds while junior Chase Baillie also scored 12 points on four three-pointers for the Raiders.
Class C South
Brick 63, Lakewood 40
Junior Sean Nausedas scored 17 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and the Green Dragons (9-11, 7-1) kept pace with Pinelands in the Class B South division race by cutting down the Piners (1-15, 0-8).
Junior Jamel Pitts added 15 points, junior Ryan Tufaro went for nine on three three-pointers, and sophomore Jaylen Johnson contributed eight points, five assists and five steals for Brick. Senior Cris Rosario scored 12 points and junior Andy Vargas added 10 to lead Lakewood.
Pinelands 56, Manchester 40
Junior Cayden Lucas scored 15 points and both senior Josh Barongo and junior Chris Husni turned in all-around performances that powered the Wildcats (13-4, 7-1) to a win over the Hawks (5-12, 4-4) that maintains their first-place tie with Brick.
Husni finished with 13 points and five assists and Barongo posted six points, 11 rebounds and five assists for Pinelands. Senior James Ruocchio scored 11 points, while sophomore Justin Roberts and junior Orion Andrews each added eight to lead Manchester.
Pinelands will face New Egypt on the road Friday while Brick hosts Lacey that same evening in the penultimate division game for both championship contenders. Pinelands and Brick will face off one more time, with the date and time still yet to be determined after they were postponed due to weather on Jan. 26.
Non-Division
St. Rose 55, New Egypt 49
Seniors Tyler Cameron and O’Rien Campbell combined for 44 of the 55 St. Rose points and the Purple Roses (4-17) held on for a win over the Warriors (8-10). Cameron led the way with 25 points and Campbell poured in 19.
