Senior Ajay Mathews and junior Dylan McEwan each scored 16 points and the Mustangs (19-5) battled past the Rams (12-12) in the final tune-up for both teams before the NJSIAA Group IV playoffs open on Tuesday.

McEwan also plucked four steals, junior teammate Nolan Gong added 15 points and six assists, and senior Drew Lubeck posted nine points, 11 rebounds and three assists for Marlboro.

Junior Noah Perna scored a game-high 24 points to lead Southern, with senior Jake Sliwinski throwing in 11 and junior Josh Brofman knocked down three three-pointers for nine points in the loss.

No. 7 Holmdel 66, Colts Neck 55 (OT)

Senior Jack Vallillo scored 20 of his team-high 26 points after halftime and the Hornets (15-7) outscored the Cougars (12-12), 12-1, in overtime to nail down the win on the road.

Sophomore Anthony Serini added 17 points and hit his lone three-pointer of the game in overtime, while senior Jack Cannone added nine points in the win. Sophomore Nate Sloane poured in a game-high 27 points, including 16 in the first quarter, to lead Colts Neck.
