Look Back: Week 2 SSI Player of the Week Winner
Anthony Johnson, Toms River South
Johnson has pushed up to the top of the rotation and found the scoring touch for a resurgent Toms River South team early in 2024. The senior led the Indians to wins over Lacey and Freehold Township last week by scoring four goal across the two matches. Johnson scored two goals and assisted another in the 3-1 win over the division rival Lions and then scored both in a 2-1 win over Freehold Township in SCT Group Play. Johnson collected 35.5 percent of last week’s vote to top runner-up Ilyas Ciltepe of Central (19 percent).

Class A North Player of the Week
Luke D’Angelo, Rumson-Fair Haven
D’Angelo scored two game-winning goals in 1-0 Rumson wins last week, including the knockout punch that gave Rumson a 1-0 win over CBA. The second of the two game-winners by D’Angelo was a golden goal in a 1-0 victory at Long Branch.

Class A Central Player of the Week
Kyle Moore, Colts Neck
The Moore brothers are dominating the Class B North division so far and last week was a milestone one for the elder of the brothers. Kyle scored in all three Colts Neck wins last week, starting with a goal and two assists in a win over Middletown North and ending it with a goal in a 3-2 win over Manasquan. His overtime winner at St. Rose in the middle of the week helped Colts Neck avoid a huge upset and also gave Moore 100 career points.

Class A South Player of the Week
Ethan Kelly, Toms River East
The Raiders surged into the Top 10 this past week with wins over Manalapan and Southern, which followed a one-goal loss to Toms River North. Kelly contributed to the scoring in two of the three games, assisting one in the loss to Toms River North and scoring both goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Southern.

Class B North Player of the Week
Ryan Fernandez, Ocean
Fernandez is part of an Ocean defense that has posted five shutouts in seven games, but last week, his goal-scoring stood out. The senior center back scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Matawan, then notched two in a win over Red Bank.

Saaed Torres, Ranney
Torres scored five goals in three games last week – all positive results for the Panthers. He scored a goal in a win over Red Bank Catholic, put up two in a win over Keyport and scored both goals in a 2-2 draw vs. Monmouth Regional in key divisional showdown.

Class B South Player of the Week
Kervin Martinez, Lakewood
Martinez exploded for four goals in a 4-0 Lakewood win over Jackson Liberty, continuing his breakout season as the Piners’ top scorer.

Class C South Player of the Week
Aiden O’Halloran, Barnegat
The Bengals are in position to challenge for the Class C South championship and their win over Brick Memorial was critical in that pursuit. In that win, O’Halloran provided the offense by scoring two goals – both in the second half – in his team’s 3-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Wild Cards
Braeden DeAngelis, Manasquan
DeAngelis has not only solidified a strong back line for Manasquan but last week, he was a clutch goal-scorer. The senior scored twice on headers on free kicks from classmate Cristian Gonzalez – one to open the scoring against preseason No. 1 Howell and the other to tie the game at Colts Neck with 10 seconds left in regulation.
Cristian Caso, Toms River North
The Mariners grabbed two key Class A South wins last week and Caso was in the middle of both scoring efforts. He scored a goal in the 3-2 win over Toms River East, then supplied a goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over Jackson Memorial.
Nate Stryker, Brick Memorial
Stryker scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Donovan Catholic last week and made it a three-goal week with a goal in a big, 2-1 win for the Mustangs over Lacey.
