Shore Conference Tournament

Semifinals

At RWJ Barnabas Health Arena, Toms River

(2) CBA 46, (6) Rumson-Fair Haven 34

Senior Kevin Pikiell and junior Charlie Marcoullier each scored 10 points and the Colts (19-3) rode a suffocating defensive effort to a win over the Bulldogs (17-6) and their first trip to the SCT championship game in nine years.

Pikiell also handed out four assists, while senior Justin Fuerbacher posted six points and 10 rebounds for CBA. Junior Gavin Marlin hit three three-pointers and sophomore David Buley pitched in nine points and five rebounds off the bench in the win.

CBA’s defense held Rumson to 29 percent shooting (13-for-44) from the field and 1-for-18 from three-point range while also forcing 19 Bulldogs turnovers.

Junior Luke Cruz led Rumson with a game-high 12 points and 11 rebounds while senior teammate David Carr chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the loss.

(4) St. Rose 59, (1) Manasquan 42

Senior Bryan Ebeling scored 17 of his season-high 20 points in the second half and the Purple Roses (18-7) pulled away to beat the Warriors (19-4) for a third time this season and earn a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament final for the second straight season.

Junior Jayden Hodge added 12 points and seven rebounds, senior Evan Romano chipped in nine points and three assists and junior Tyler Cameron and freshman Izayah Cooper each threw in eight points as part of St. Rose’s well-rounded attack.

Manasquan jumped out to a 9-6 first-quarter lead before St. Rose took control of the game with a 9-0 run that gave the Purple Roses a 17-11 lead. Manasquan battled to within 20-15 by halftime and trailed, 29-24, in the third before St. Rose blew the game open with a 16-4 run. Ebeling scored nine of the St. Rose points during that game-deciding run.

Ebeling and Hodge were also the primary pieces in St. Rose’s defensive effort, which keyed in on Manasquan’s two top scorers: sophomore Rey Weinseimer and senior Griffin Linstra. Linstra led Manasquan with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Hodge clamped down on Weinseimer, limiting the sophomore to nine points.

St. Rose has now won 30 straight games vs. Shore Conference opponents and Wednesday’s win over Manasquan ends the Warriors’ run of six straight trips to the Shore Conference final. The Purple Roses will go for their second straight SCT title Friday vs. CBA at Monmouth University, with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.
