Semifinals

(5) Middletown South 58, (1) Freehold Twp. 44

Junior Matt Trimble scored a game-high 25 points and the Eagles used strong outputs in the first and fourth quarters to knock off the top-seeded Patriots and reach the Coaches Cup final for the second straight season.

Senior Brady Hahn added 12 points and junior Beckett Oliver chipped in nine for Middletown South, which won the first quarter, 20-13, and the fourth quarter, 14-7.

Sophomore Jake Schultzel scored 15 points and classmate Dakota Lasater added 12 to lead Freehold Township.

(3) Brick Memorial 49, (2) Neptune 42

Juniors Sean Collins and Jason Lajara each scored 14 points and the Mustangs overcame a seven-point halftime deficit on the road to beat the Scarlet Fliers and reach the championship game of the Coaches Cup.

Lajara scored 12 of his points in the second half to go with eight rebounds on the game, while Collins added three assists and four steals in the win. Junior Nyzier Matthews, meanwhile, scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter, during which Brick Memorial outscored Neptune, 21-11, to turn the game in its favor. Matthews also grabbed six rebounds.

Junior Jordan Pierre led Neptune with a game-high 16 points and senior Jayden Myrthil chipped in 11 in the loss.

Brick Memorial will host No. 5 Middletown South Saturday in the second annual Coaches Cup final. Middletown South was last year’s Coaches Cup runner-up, with Middletown North winning the inaugural tournament.

 

Non-Division

Wall 71, Southern 55

Senior Brian McKenna and junior Liam Killea each scored 16 points to lead four Wall players in double-figure scoring, which was enough to power the Crimson Knights to a win over the Rams.

McKenna knocked down four three-pointers, while Killea buried three to lead Wall’s perimeter attack. Senior Tom Ekberg also pitched in 12 points and junior Dan Hennessy netted 11 for Wall.

Junior Jake Sliwinski scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out seven assists and knocked down four three-pointers to lead Southern. Sophomore Noah Perna added 14 points in the loss while senior Cooper Dempsey threw in 12 while shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the three-point line for the Rams.

Monmouth 63, Toms River East 58

Junior Jaylin Reeves scored 21 points and the Falcons upended the Raiders to close out their 2024-25 season on a winning note. Junior Michael Griffin and sophomore Logan Conrade each added 10 points for Monmouth.

Freshman Brady Gillen led Toms River East with 22 points and classmate Tommy Intintola posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

No. 4 Central 65, Marlboro 40

Senior Jayson King led a balanced attack with 16 points and the Golden Eagles coasted to a win over the Mustangs.

Senior Aidan Graham poured in 14 points, senior Jaycen Santucci contributed 13 points and eight assists, senior Royalty Riley netted 10 points and sophomore Derek Roth posted eight points and four assists for Central.

Point Boro 70, Shore 50

Sophomore Hunter Hynes scored 21 points and the Panthers handled the Blue Devils. Junior Jovin Steinmetz added 12 points and nine rebounds while senior Drew Cardia chipped in 11 points and six assists for Point Boro.

Junior Andrew Barham led Shore with 18 points and senior Bryce Crowe pitched in 13 in the loss.

No. 7 Holmdel 77, Manchester 62

Senior C.J. Karis scored 22 points and the Hornets rolled to a win over the Hawks. Junior Jack Vallillo tossed in 15 points and senior Ire Adesina chipped in 14 for Holmdel.

Senior Aidan Lunn Lunn closed out his standout career at Manchester with 28 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Hawks. Classmate M.J. Goins closed out his career with 16 points and senior Ny’Zyr Battle threw in 12 in the loss.

No. 9 Colts Neck 60, Middletown North 55

Senior Jack Freid hit a tie-breaking three-pointer with 33 seconds left and knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the game with eight seconds remaining as the Cougars won a battle with the Lions in a state-tournament tune-up for two hopefuls in the Central Jersey Group III section.

St. John Vianney 60, Ocean 54

Senior Nicco Aquilone led a senior-driven scoring effort with 15 points and the Lancers scored a Senior Night win over the Spartans. Senior Alex Jurado added 14 points, classmate Dan Simeone poured in 12 and fellow senior J.T. Mohlmann netted eight to pace St. John Vianney.

Junior Aidan Saint Louis led Ocean with a game-high 33 points.

 

Non-Conference

Hightstown 55, Barnegat 39

Senior Mason Krey scored 14 points and joine Mike Revello as just the second player in Barnegat boys basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone in his career, although the Bengals fell to the Rams at home.
