Class A South

No. 6 Jackson 51, Donovan Catholic 50

Senior Jimmy Pappalardo scored 13 points and classmates George Boley and Randy Holmes Jr. each added 10 to help the Jaguars (7-2, 1-1) fight off the Griffins (4-3, 0-1) for a Class A South win at home.

Freshman Gerard Gallo scored a game-high 17 points to lead Donovan Catholic, while junior Gabe Feliciano kicked in 10 in the loss.

Central 39, No. 8 Southern 25

Junior Derek Roth scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Golden Eagles (6-3, 2-0) held Southern’s standout duo to eight combined points in a Class A South road win over the Rams (4-4, 1-1).

Senior Elijah Reeder and junior Tyler Woermer each added six points and junior Cijier Yates held junior Noah Perna to eight points, while the Golden Eagles defense kept second-leading scorer Jake Sliwinski off the scoreboard altogether. Woermer also hauled in 15 rebounds.

 

Class B South

Point Beach 60, Point Boro 54

Senior Elijah Ives scored 15 points to go with seven rebounds and hit the game-tying three-pointer with 1:14 before classmate Jacob Edgecomb hit the go-ahead jumper just seconds later, lifting the Garnet Gulls (8-2, 2-0) to a win over the Panthers (3-4, 1-0) in a game that Point Boro led for the heavy majority of the 32 minutes.

Point Beach trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter and took its first lead of the game, 41-40, with 1:36 left in the third on a three-point play by Ives. After the Garnet Gulls entered the fourth trailing Point Boro, 42-41, Ives hit a three to give Point Beach a 46-42 edge — its largest until the final minute. Point Boro countered with eight unanswered points, with senior Jovin Steinmetz scored five of them and senior Nick Carmino hit a tie-breaking three to make it 49-46.

Junior Ryan Mahoney added 14 points for Point Beach and scored baskets on back-to-back trips to pull Point Beach even, 50-50. A drive to the basket by junior Hunter Hynes gave Point Boro a 53-50 lead with just over 1:30 left before Ives delivered the tying three, which came after an offensive rebound by junior Danny Cavanaugh.

Edgecomb finished with 12 points and five rebounds, junior George Breckenridge chipped in 10 points and Cavanaugh added five points, nine rebounds and five assists for Point Beach.

Hynes and Steinmetz each scored 18 to lead point Boro, with Hynes scoring 15 in the first half and Steinmetz going for 11 in the second half. Steinmetz also pulled in 11 rebounds, while Hynes grabbed seven. Senior Drew Cardia pitched in six points, five assists and four steals for Point Boro.

 

Class C South

Lacey 37, Lakewood 33

Senior Teagan Gilliespie scored 22 of Lacey’s 37 points and junior Kenny Monica scored eight of his 10 in the fourth quarter to help the Lions (2-8, 1-2) hold on for a win over the Piners (1-7, 0-2).

Senior Declan Meehan added seven points and five assists for Lacey. Senior Chris Rosario scored 13 points and sophomore Abel Martinez netted eight to lead Lakewood.

New Egypt 65, Manchester 57

Senior Nolan Arnold scored 19 points and the Warriors (6-3, 3-0) took advantage of a shutdown first quarter on defense to pick up a win over the Hawks (2-8, 1-1).

Senior Ryan Reynolds poured in 17 points and classmate Clyde Ferris added 14 for New Egypt, which outscored Manchester, 14-2, in the first quarter before holding on in the second half after the Hawks pulled within 28-23 by halftime.

Junior Orion Andrews scored a game-high 22 points to lead Manchester, with senior James Ruocchio netting 15 and sophomore Justin Roberts chipping in 11 in the loss.

 

Non-Division

Monmouth 62, Freehold Boro 53

Junior Logan Conrade scored 23 points and the Falcons (6-2) downed the Colonials (5-4) on the road. Senior Michael Griffin added 15 points and classmate Ahmir Wiggins chipped in 12 for Monmouth.

Senior Mike Cush scored 19 points, senior Max Girandola added 14 and classmate Joe Haney chipped in nine points and eight rebounds for Freehold Boro.

Toms River South 72, Barnegat 49

Senior Kharri Pringle led four Toms River South scorers in double-figures with 26 points and the Indians (6-5) coasted to a road win over the Bengals (5-4).

Junior Nate Johnson scored 13 points and seniors Shane Gambarony and Jacob Myers each threw in 12 for Toms River South. Freshman Myles Joseph scored 15 points and senior Codey Shaffery chipped in 10 to lead Barnegat.
