Class A North
Holmdel 58, No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 52
Senior Jack Vallillo broke through for a season-high 29 points and the Hornets (8-5, 3-4) toppled the Bulldogs (13-5, 4-3) to earn a split of the regular-season series after a narrow loss at Rumson in early January.
Sophomore Anthony Serini poured in 15 points and junior Connor Paul chipped in eight for Holmdel, which surged into the lead with a 16-7 third-quarter run after Rumson led, 26-24, at halftime.
Senior Luke Cruz carried the Rumson offense with a game-high 31 points. Freshman Clint Martin and senior Blake Ahmann added eight points each in the loss.
No. 1 CBA 72, St. Rose 41
Junior Avery Lynch scored a team-high 19 points and sophomores Izayah Cooper and Oymere Rene combined for 15 points as the Colts (15-3, 7-0) trio led the way for CBA over the Purple Roses (1-15, 0-7) in their return to St. Rose.
Cooper scored eight points and Rene netted seven in their first official game at St. Rose since both sophomores transferred to CBA along with Avery Lynch to play for coach Brian Lynch, who also made his return to St. Rose Tuesday after leading the Purple Roses for the past four seasons. Sophomore Conor Marcoullier also threw in 12 points off the bench for CBA.
Senior Tyler Cameron, senior O’Rien Campbell and sophomore Ajay Catania accounted for all of St. Rose’s scoring, led by Cameron with a game-high 20 and followed by Campbell (11) and Catania (10).
Class A Central
No. 2 Wall 68, St. John Vianney 50
Senior Brian McKenna posted 25 points, seven rebounds and three steals to power the Crimson Knights (14-0, 7-0) past the Lancers (4-14, 1-6) for their 14th straight win to open the season.
Senior Joey Ambrozy scored 11 of his career-high 15 points in the second half to help Wall close out the victory, which the Crimson Knights did with a 17-9 fourth quarter. Junior Danny O’Neill led St. John Vianney with 14 points and sophomore Luke Angeles added 11 on three three-pointers in defeat.
No. 5 Howell 64, No. 10 Freehold Twp. 57
Senior Cayden Parker caught fire in the second half, during which he scored 19 of his game-high 32 points in leading the Rebels (12-3, 5-2) to a road win over the Patriots (9-7, 3-4) despite a rocky start to the game.
Parker and juniors Jayson Parker and Noah Musto combined for all but three of Howell’s points, with Jayson Parker scoring 16 points and Musto chipping in 13. Howell fell into a 17-9 hole through one quarter, but stormed back to take a 31-30 halftime lead.
Juniors Jake Schultzel and John O’Neill each scored 12 points to lead Freehold Township.
Class B North
Colts Neck 54, Middletown North 53
Sophomore Nate Sloane scored a game-high 19 points and the Cougars (10-5, 5-2) held off a late push by the Lions (5-11, 1-6) to escape with a win.
Senior Dillon Younger poured in 16 points and sophomore Chinedum Amaefuna netted eight for Colts Neck, which led, 51-43, with just over a minute to go when Middletown North mounted its desperation push to extend the game.
Junior Nate Tyburczy scored 16 points to lead Middletown North and began the rally with a three-pointer that cut the margin to 51-46 with 58 seconds left. Tyburczy then stole the ball near midcourt and found senior Eddie Lopez for a layup that pulled the Lions to within 51-48 with 50 seconds left. On Middletown North’s next trip, junior Steven Huynh buried a three-pointer to pull within 53-51 after Younger set up classmate Aiden Bain for a lay-up as he was fouled.
Sloane made one of two free throws with 10 seconds left and Middletown North had a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer, but Tyburczy put up a baseline floater with a second left and time expired with Colts Neck holding on for a one-point win.
Lopez finished with 14 points and fellow senior Jack Dambaugh added nine for Middletown North.
No. 4 Marlboro 83, Freehold Boro 50
Junior Dylan McEwan scored a career-high 32 points to go with four steals and two blocked shots on the other end as the Mustangs (13-3, 5-2) stormed past the Colonials (6-10, 1-6) for their sixth straight win.
Junior Nolan Gong poured in 12 points on four three-pointers and dealt out 11 assists for Marlboro, while senior teammate Ajay Mathews added 13 points and three assists. Senior Christian Elmasri also threw in eight points and three assists in the win.
Senior Mike Cush led Freehold Boro with 17 points.
Class B Central
Ocean 66, Long Branch 42
Freshman Omar Ayyash stole the show on Senior Night, scoring 25 points to pace the Spartans (11-7, 6-1) to a win over the Green Wave (4-12, 0-6) for their fourth straight victory. Senior Vernon Taylor stepped with with 10 points for Ocean.
Monmouth 70, Raritan 54
Junior Logan Conrade scored 16 points and senior Ahmir Wiggins dished out 10 assists to go with his nine points as the Falcons (10-5, 4-2) soared to a win over the Rockets (5-10, 2-5). Senior Charles Tinsley chipped in 12 points for Monmouth.
Senior Ian Mullan scored 10 points and handed out three assists while junior Eric Berg pitched in eight points and four assists to lead Raritan.
Class C North
Keansburg 66, Keyport 49
Sophomore Taurian Black and senior A’Son Young combined for 34 points and both filled up the stat sheet to lead the Titans (9-5, 2-3) to their first win over the Red Raiders (7-9, 2-4) since January of 2018, snapping a 15-game losing streak vs. their rivals.
Black led the way with 18 points, six rebounds and five steals while Young posted 16 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Senior Jaivon Thomas-Conklin also went for 15 points and six rebounds, with senior Milan Mraz pitching in eight for Keansburg.
Senior Casey McCarthy scored 15 points and both senior Kai Arrington and junior Demetrius Attia scored 13 apiece to lead Keyport.
