Ocean 14, Monmouth 0
Sophomore Colleen Zdan picked-up where she left off her freshman season, striking out four batters in a shutout victory for Ocean (1-0). Zdan also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Sadie Conklin went 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored and classmate Taylor Scotto added three hits with three runs scored for the Spartans in their first game of their careers.
Freedom
No. 2 Donovan Catholic 7, Central 3
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Donovan Catholic (1-0) scored all seven runs in the inning to win their home opener. Maryland commit Isabella Cino hit her first homerun of the season and drove in three runs for the Griffins. Auburn commit Isabella Maria went 3-for-4 with a double and stolen base for Donovan. Senior Caroline Kopp struck out 8 batters in her first start of the season.
Junior Grace Ostapovich went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI and Leah Bollettino scored two runs for Central (1-1).
Pinelands 16, Point Boro 8
No. 9 Southern 8, Jackson 5
After going down 2-0 in the 1st inning, Southern (1-1) scored three runs in the top of the 2nd inning and broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the 5th with three runs to earn their first win of the season. Junior Samantha Jillson struck out 10 batters to earn the victory for the Rams. Junior Madilyn Duralek had a triple with a run scored and Kendra Perrini had two hits with two runs scored for Southern.
Mia Ingenito went 4-for-4 for Jackson (0-2) with a double and two RBIs.
Independence
No. 8 Barnegat 2, Toms River East 1
For the second straight game, Barnegat (2-0) found themselves on the winning end of a pitching dual. Junior Gianna Gomez struck out 15 batters and did not allow an earned run to win her second game of the season. Gomez also set the all-time strikeout record in Barnegat’s history with 355. Senior Riley Schmidt went 2-for-3 with a homerun for the Bengals.
Kylie Paladino struck out six batters for Toms River East (0-1) and had one of three doubles for the Raiders.
New Egypt 20, Brick Memorial 11
Trailing 11-10 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, New Egypt (1-0) scored 10 runs to win their home opener. Senior Olivia Stillwell went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs scored and four runs batted in for the Warriors. Freshman Samantha Garcia was a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and four runs scored in her first game of her career. Sophomore Kylie White earned the win for New Egypt, only giving up two earned runs.
Brick Memorial (0-1) was trailing 10-6 going into the top of the 6th inning and scored five runs to take a 11-10 lead.
Toms River South 19, Point Beach 4
After scoring seven runs in the 1st inning, Toms River South (1-0) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to win their home opener. The Indians hit three homeruns in the game led by Addison Tupper who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Freshman Maddie Keller had a double and drove four runs in for TRS. Senior Brooke Hopkins struck out five batters to earn the win.
Freshman Arianna Vitale had a single and a RBI and Brynn Rusbarsky doubled in a run for Point Beach (1-2).
Liberty
Toms River North 7, Lacey 4
Tied 2-2 after the 1st inning, Toms River North (1-0) scored two runs in both the 4th and 5th innings to win their opening game of the season. Sophomore Alexa Iovine struck out 10 batters on the mound and drove in two runs in the victory. Sophomore Skylar Minniti went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI for the Mariners.
Freshman Savannah Wilkins went 2-for-3 with a double and her first homerun of her career for Lacey (0-2). Olivia Tramantano and Wilkins both drove in two runs for the Lions.
Manchester 16, Red Bank 1

Non-Division
St. Rose 13, Wall 3
Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the 2nd inning, St. Rose (2-1) scored the games next 13 runs over the next three innings to beat rival Wall (1-1) in a non-divisional game. Freshman Morgan McGee hit her second homerun of the season for the Purple Roses. Senior Emily Torresdal struck out 12 batters and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Sophomore Elena Scelfo went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead St. Rose.
Non-Conference
Keyport 15, Manville 4
Tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 4th inning, Keyport (1-0) exploded for 11 runs to win their home opener. Senior Ava Mitchell went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and sophomore Kerwin Amber went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs for Keyport. Junior Madelyn Pinto hit two doubles and added three runs. Senior Nicolette Sickles struck out four batters to earn her first win of the season.
Middletown North 8, Colonia 3
Middletown North (1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on runs in every inning but the 4th to win their first game of the season. Senior Brianna Soto and sophomore Aubrey Borchers both hit homeruns with Borchers scored and driving in two runs in the game. Junior Deane Coberg collected three hits including a double. Junior Grace English struck out eight batters and did not allow an earned run for the victory.
