Toms River North 67, Middletown South 55

Senior Sherrod Nelson scored a career-high 34 points and the Mariners rode a 22-2 second-quarter run to upend the Eagles.

Nelson went off for 17 points in the first quarter and hit the halftime locker room with 26 points. Sophomore Logan Brill added 13 points and classmate Jackson Sias chipped in eight for Toms River North.

Senior Brady Hahn led Middletown North with 25 points.

Middletown North 62. Barnegat 45

Senior Colin Byrne scored 27 points and handed out eight assists to power the Lions to a road win over the Bengals.

Junior Brayden Marcotte added 12 points and sophomore Nate Tyburczy chipped in nine points, four assists and four steals for Middletown North. Barnegat limited junior Eddie Lopez to five points, but Lopez left his mark on the game with 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.

Wall 45, Marlboro 35

Junior Sean Killea led a balanced Wall attack with 12 points and the Crimson Knights tamed the Mustangs in their final tune-up before the NJSIAA Tournament.

Senior Brian McKenna pitched in 11 points and junior Dan Hennessy contributed nine points and eight rebounds for Wall. Sophomore Dylan McEwan scored 16 points and senior Cole Newman added 12 to carry Marlboro, which played without two starters (Nolan Gong and Drew Lubeck) due to illness.

 

Non-Conference

Point Boro 79, South River 59

Sophomore Hunter Hynes scored 22 points and junior teammate Jovin Steinmetz poured in 21 to lead the Panthers to a runaway win over the Rams.

Hynes and Steinmetz combined to hit seven of Point Boro’s nine three-pointers, with Hynes draining four and Steinmetz hitting three. Senior Hudson Griffin added 10 points and classmate Nick Kowalewski chipped in nine for Point Boro.

Senior guard and 2,000-point scorer Alex Grospe led South River with a game-high 35 points.
