Class A Central

No. 2 Manasquan 59, Point Boro 45

Senior Griffin Linstra scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and the Warriors (14-2, 6-2) fought off a challenge from the Panthers (10-6, 2-5) to pick up a road win in Class A Central play.

Sophomore Rey Weinseimer poured in 19 points for Manasquan, which played without junior starting forward Jack O’Reilly for the second time in three games. Senior Brandon Kunz added eight points and came up with a key steal and assist to Weinseimer in the final three minutes as Point Boro was fighting to stay in the game. Seniors Matteo Chiarella and Dan McManus each hit a three-pointer in the fourth quarter for Manasquan to stall the Panthers’ momentum.

Point Boro played Manasquan even, 11-11, in the first quarter and trailed by five points at the end of both the second and third quarters. Senior Drew Cardia led the balanced Panthers attack with 10 points, with sophomore Hunter Hynes chipping in nine and junior Jovin Steinmetz and senior Nick Kowalewski each pitching in eight in the loss.

 

Class A South

Toms River North 66, Toms River South 55

Senior Sherrod Nelson scored a game-high 20 points and the Mariners (6-11, 3-4) upended the rival Indians (2-13, 0-7) to snap a five-game losing streak.

Sophomore Logan Brill chipped in 13 points and senior Mekai Morse netted 11 for Toms River North. Junior Bryce Kazanowsky grabbed 13 rebounds to go with his five points and freshman Jake Greenberg nine rebounds and five assists to go with his two points.

Junior Shane Gambarony scored 17 points and senior Mark Avendano added 14 to lead Toms River South.

 

Class B Coastal

Middletown North 50, Henry Hudson 33

Senior Colin Byrne scored a game-high 22 points, handed out three assists and blocked a pair of shots as the Lions (12-6, 5-1) pulled away with a key divisional win over the Admirals (11-5, 4-2), giving them sole possession of first place.

Byrne did not scored in the first quarter, but came alive in the second, when he scored all nine of Middletown North’s points as the Lions took a 22-19 halftime lead. Junior Eddie Lopez and sophomore Nate Tyburczy each added 10 points, with Lopez grabbing eight rebounds and Tyburczy pulling in five.

Junior Billy Quinn scored 11 points and senior Jack Fitzpatrick added nine to lead Henry Hudson, which scored the first nine points of the game, but was undone by 11 first-half turnovers.

 

Class B Central

Jackson Liberty 61, Lakewood 55

Sophomore Aidan Kelly scored 19 points to go with four steals and the Hartnett brothers combined for 31 points as the Jackson Liberty trio led the Lions (5-8, 2-5) to a win over the Piners (2-10, 0-5).

Senior Corey Harnett scored 16 points and sophomore Josh Hartnett posted 15 points and 11 rebounds while hitting three three-pointers.

Junior Ronny Cuevas scored 18 points and classmate Cris Rosario added 17 to lead Lakewood.

Point Beach 50, Neptune 48 (OT)

Sophomore George Breckenridge scored the tie-breaking basket on a driving layup in overtime and the Garnet Gulls (12-5, 6-1) edged the Scarlet Fliers (10-4, 3-3) on the road to sweep the season series and stay in the hunt for the Class B Central division title.

Sophomore Tyler Preston scored a game-high 18 points and scored the tying basket with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lead Point Beach, while senior Scot Crowley poured in 11 and sophomore Danny Cavanaugh chipped in nine in the win and also blocked the potential game-winning three-point attempt as time expired in overtime.

Senior Jayden Myrthil scored 12 points and senior Jay’Vion Rogers and junior Jordan Pierre each added 10 to lead Neptune. Myrthil hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 1:13 left in regulation to give Neptune a 46-44 lead before Preston tied it to send the game to overtime.

Wall 76, New Egypt 41

Senior Brian McKenna scored 16 points and the Crimson Knights (13-3, 6-0) got contributions up and down the roster on the way to a road win over the Warriors (4-10, 2-5).

Senior Demitri Tu added 13 points and junior Dan Hennessy pitched in 13 for Wall, which had 12 players score at least two points. Junior Nolan Arnold poured in a game-high 26 points to lead New Egypt.

 

Class B South

Barnegat 54, Brick 30

Senior Todd Muhammad scored 16 points and classmate Mason Krey threw in 12 to lead the Bengals (10-5, 4-1) over the Green Dragons (6-11, 1-5) for their fifth straight win.

Senior Jayden Johnson led Brick with nine points.

Toms River East 40, Pinelands 35

Freshman Brady Gillen scored 17 points while connecting on three three-pointers to help lead the Raiders (7-8, 3-2) to a road win over the Wildcats (9-5, 3-2), further tightening the division race in Class B South.

Freshman Tommy Intintola also stepped up with nine points and six rebounds for Toms River East, which pulled into a second-place tie with Pinelands and stayed within a game of new division leader Barnegat.

Senior Ty Kline carried Pinelands on the scoring front with a game-high 18 points.

 

Non-Conference

Old Bridge 64, Matawan 46

Krish Patel scored a game-high 26 points and Victor Przepiora added 16 as the Knights (7-9) rolled to a road win over the Huskies (5-11).

Junior Colin Reitmann led Matawan with 14 points, while freshman Cayson Williams put up six points and 10 rebounds and senior Amir Martinez and junior Ben Morales each pitched in nine points in the loss.
