Shore Conference Girls Soccer Week Three Top 10 Rankings

 

1. Manalapan (6-0) Last Week: 1 –. Manalapan is one of three teams to win all of their games to date. The Braves won two Class A North games, improving to 3-0 in the division. They opened the week with a 4-2 win over No. 9 Wall and ended the week with a double overtime 1-0 win against Manasquan. Junior goalkeeper Aryanna Lake has four shutouts on the season. Manalapan hosts No. 4 Middletown South on Thursday in a divisional game and then travels to Brick Memorial in a non-divisional game.

2. Red Bank Catholic (6-1) Last Week: 4 – The Caseys have won four straight since falling to top ranked Manalapan. RBC won two Class A North games last week to improve to 2-1 in the division. The Caseys also became the first team to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over Point Beach. Freshman Molly Denver has provided a boost to the Casey offense with 5 goals and an assist to start the season. RBC travels to No. 3 Howell on Thursday in a division game and to Toms River East on Saturday in a non-divisional game.

3. Howell (5-1) Last Week: 5 – Howell went 2-1 last week against tough competition, winning two games against teams ranked in the top 10 of the Shore Conference. The Rebels opened the week earning three points in the SCT Group 7 with a 1-0 win over No. 8 Middletown North. Howell followed that with a 3-2 comeback victory over No. 2 Middletown South to improve to 2-0 in Class A North.  The Rebels scored two goals in the final 11 minutes to send the game to overtime. Freshman Allison Cahill scored the golden goal for Howell just over three minutes into overtime. Howell fell to Bridgewater-Raritan 4-2 on Saturday in a tough non-conference game. Howell hosts No. 2 Red Bank Catholic on Thursday in their lone game this week.

4. Middletown South (4-1) Last Week: 2 – After opening the week with a 4-1 victory over division opponent Manasquan, Middletown South fell to No. 5 Howell 3-2 in a Class A North battle. Senior standout Bea Tinoco continued her scoring tear, netting two goals in the first 10 minutes to bring her season total to 10. However, the Eagles were unable to maintain their lead in the second half. Middletown South can shake up the rankings this week when they travel to No. 1 Manalapan on Thursday. A win for the Eagles over the Braves will make the Class A North race wide open.

5 . Central (5-0-1) Last Week: 3  – Central’s defense has only allowed one goal this season, which was against No. 7 Toms River South in a 1-1 tie last week. Sophomore Addison Frulio has five shutouts on the season. The Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 in SCT Group 5 with a 3-0 victory over Ocean and followed that with a 4-0 victory against Class A South rival Brick Memorial. Brianna Nelson and Brianna Daly both lead Central with 4 goals each. Central hosts Jackson on Thursday in a Class A South game. 

 

6. Point Boro (4-0) Last Week: 6 – The Panthers won two Class A South games to improve to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the division. Sophomore Maddie Renna has done a good job replacing last season’s Player of the Year Abby Hannemann, who led the Shore Conference in assists. Renna has 7 assists in the first four games finding Elise Viggiano for a good portion of those. Point Boro defeated division rival Jackson in overtime 2-1 to get an edge in the division race. Point Boro travels to Notre Dame on Tuesday in a non-conference game and on Thursday they host No. 7 Toms River South. The winner of that game will have a leg up on winning the division.

 

7. Toms River South (3-0-2) Last Week: 7 – Toms River South started the week with a draw against No. 3 Central. It was an instant classic with two teams going back and forth against each other. The Indians followed that with a 3-0 win against Lacey to improve to 2-0-1 in Class A South. Last year’s leading scorer for TRS, Daniella Gordon, scored a hat-trick in that game to lead the Indians. TRS travels to No. 6 Point Boro in a Class A South match-up. TRS will have an advantage in the division race with a win being 3-0-1 and having played the two other favorites in the division. On Saturday the Indians will host cross town rival Toms River North in a non-divisional game.

8. Middletown North (6-1) Last Week: 8 – Middletown North opened and ended the week with 2-1 victories over Class B North opponents to improve to 3-0 in the division. The Lions defeated Red Bank Regional in overtime to open the week and ended the week with a victory over St. Rose. Freshman Peyton Kulka scored the game winner against the Bucs and had an assist against the Roses. Middletown North was handed their first defeat against No. 3 Howell in a Shore Conference Tournament Group 7 game. The Lions travel to Barnegat on Monday to play their third game in SCT Group 7. A win will clinch a spot in the SCT. Middletown North hosts Raritan on Thursday in a division game.

9. Trinity Hall (5-1-1) Last Week: 10 – Trinity Hall has not allowed a goal since conceding four against Middletown North on 9/11. Senior Emily Venezia is settling back into her role since returning from her injury. She leads the conference with six shutouts this season for the Monarchs. Trinity Hall travels to Long Branch on Tuesday in a SCT Group 7 game. The Monarchs are chasing Howell and Middletown North in the group. The Monarchs end the week hosting Colts Neck on Thursday in a Class A Central game and on Saturday they host West Windsor-Plainsboro North in a non-conference game. 

 

10. Freehold Township (2-3-2) Last Week: Not Ranked –

The Patriots return to the top ten rankings this week after falling out in week one. Freehold Township lost a hard fought battle 2-1 against No. 4 Red Bank Catholic to start the week. The Patriots secured a spot in the SCT with a 3-0 victory over Shore to give them 6 points in Group 3. They ended the week with a scoreless tie against No. 9 Trinity Hall. Freehold Township has faced five teams that have been ranked in the top ten at some point this season, most in the Shore Conference. Freehold Township hosts Manasquan on Thursday in a Class A North game and travels to Lacey on Saturday in a non-divisional game.
