SSI Week 6 Softball Top 10
1. Red Bank Catholic (18-3) Last Week: 3 – Red Bank Catholic is the third team this season to reach the top spot in the SSI Softball Rankings. A combination of beating St. John Vianney for the second time this season and Donovan Catholic getting upset in the quarterfinal round of the Shore Conference Tournament moves the Caseys up two spots. Freshman Mackenna Savage was the hero in the semifinal round with a solo home run in the first inning which would prove to be the games only run. Senior Lily Hagan held SJV to just one hit to send RBC to their first SCT final since 2010. The Caseys will play 5th seeded Colts Neck on Monday at 7 p.m. at Count Basie Park in Red Bank for the SCT title.

2. Donovan Catholic (20-1) Last Week: 1 – After winning their first 20 games of the season, Donovan was handed their first loss of the season and eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the SCT to Marlboro. This will be the first time since the 2017 season that Donovan will not be playing for a SCT championship. Donovan is currently the No. 2 seed in South Jersey Group A. They will travel to Point Boro on Monday, host Kingsway on Tuesday, and host Livingston on Wednesday in tune-up games.
3. St. John Vianney (13-2) Last Week: 2 – After not allowing a run in both the second round and the quarterfinals of the SCT, the Lancers gave up one run against rival RBC in the first inning of the semifinal match-up. That lone run by the Caseys prevented SJV from going to their third straight SCT final. Both of SJV’s losses this season have come at the hands of RBC. The Lancers are currently the No. 3 seed in South Jersey Group A, less than a point behind RBC and Donovan. Currently, SJV is scheduled to host South Plainfield on Friday and travel to Steinert on Saturday as they prepare to defend their Group A title.

Bryce continued the strong hitting with two home runs against No. 8 Middletown South in a non-divisional game and a solo shot against Marlboro in the semifinal round of the SCT. Pitcher Angela Sasso has been dominant both on the mound and in the batter’s box. She has only allowed three runs in the three SCT games, and she hit a 2-run home run in the semifinal round to get the bats going for Colts Neck. Colts Neck will play the No. 3 seed RBC on Monday for the SCT title at Count Basie Park in Red Bank.
