Samantha Gold, Sr., B, Howell

Howell fell just short of advancing to its third straight SCT final in a 1-0 overtime loss to Point Boro. The Rebels’ defense played an important part in their run to the semifinal round and Gold has played an important role the last two seasons and was one of the leaders of the back-line. She helped Howell post two shutouts in the first two rounds of the SCT. They defeated Middletown North 1-0 in the opening round and Rumson-Fair Haven 2-0 in the second round. Even with all the injuries to Howell’s back-line, Gold was able to keep the defense organized throughout the tournament. In the semifinal game against No. 2 Point Boro, she helped keep them shut out for 92 minutes until the Panthers scored the game-winner on a set piece.
