Week 8 Shore Conference Football Divison Players of the Week

 

CLASS A NORTH

Offense

Christian LaFonte, Sr., RB, Marlboro

-Powered the Mustangs’ offense with 184 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 29 carries in a 21-0 win over Long Branch.

 

Defense

Austin Kiernan, Sr., LB, Rumson-Fair Haven

-Tied a career-high with three sacks and recorded 12 tackles to help the No. 2 Bulldogs defeat Colts Neck, 49-7, and clinch the outright Class A North division championship.

 

Special Teams

Blake Caruso, Jr., K, Red Bank Catholic

-Connected on two field goals with a long of 37 yards and went 3-for-3 on extra points in the No. 4 Caseys’ 29-14 win over Middletown South.

 

 

CLASS A SOUTH

Offense

T.J. Valerio, Sr., QB, Toms River North

-Led the No. 1 Toms River North offense in a 31-0 win over No. 9 Donovan Catholic by going 8 of 9 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown to help the Mariners clinch the Class A South championship.

 

Defense

Jack Baker, So., LB, Toms River North

-Recorded a career-high 11 tackles with 3 tackles for loss and forced a fumble when the No. 1 Mariners clinched the Class A South division title with a 31-0 victory over No. 9 Donovan Catholic.

 

Special Teams

Yianni Papanikolas, Sr., K, Toms River North

-Kicked a 31-yard field goal and went 4-for-4 on extra points in the No. 1 Mariners’ 31-0 win over No. 9 Donovan Catholic that clinched the Class A South division title.

 

 

CLASS B NORTH

Offense

Owen Robson, Jr., QB, Middletown North

-Completed 9 of 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns when the No. 6 Lions defeated Freehold Township, 45-19, to clinch the outright Class B North division title and enter the playoffs undefeated.

 

Defense

Jah’Mir Lane-Bailey, Jr., LB, Red Bank

-Posted 6 tackles with 1.5 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery as part of a huge day where he also caught four passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 2-point conversion pass in a 28-14 win over Matawan that locked up an NJSIAA playoff spot.

 

Special Teams

Seamus Montegue, Jr., K, Middletown North

-Kicked a 26-yard field goal and went 6-for-6 on extra points when the No. 6 Lions defeated Freehold Township, 45-19, to clinch the outright Class B North division title and enter the playoffs undefeated.

 

 

CLASS B SOUTH

Offense

Jake Henehan, Sr., RB, Toms River South

-Rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and caught a touchdown pass when the Indians knocked off previously undefeated and 11th-ranked Central, 33-26, to clinch a share of the Class B South division title.

 

Defense

Kavon Metellus, So., DB, Toms River South

-Intercepted two passes in the second half to help the Indians knock off previously undefeated and 11th-ranked Central, 33-26, to clinch a share of the Class B South division championship.

 

Special Teams

Chase Ford, Sr., Punter & JJ Geremia, Jr., WR – Toms River South

-Ford and Geremia combined to execute a fake punt for a 65-yard touchdown when the Indians stunned 10th-ranked and previously undefeated Central, 33-26, to clinch a share of the Class B South division title.

 

 

CLASS C NORTH

Offense

Matt Iulo, Sr., RB, Holmdel

-Ran for the go-ahead 17-yard touchdown with under a minute left in regulation when the No. 7 Hornets defeated Manalapan, 27-21, to clinch a share of the Class C South division title. He finished with two rushing touchdowns and three receptions for 52 yards.

 

Defense

Dante Campagna, Sr., DB, St. John Vianney

-Intercepted two passes in the No. 12 Lancers’ 28-14 win over Raritan. He also caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown on offense.

 

Special Teams

Ian Spicer, Sr., K, Manchester

-Went 6-for-6 on extra points when the Hawks defeated Monmouth 42-12 to clinch their first outright division title in program history.

 

 

CLASS C SOUTH

Offense

Mason Ciccariello, Jr., QB, Jackson Liberty

-Completed 12 of 15 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown and ran for 50 yards and a touchdown on seven carries to lead the Lions to a 27-26 win over Pinelands.

 

Defense

Cole Toddings, Sr., LB, Barnegat

-Made 20 tackles with three tackles for loss and two pressures in the Bengals’ 35-22 win over Lakewood.

 

Special Teams

Anthony Dringus, So., K, Barnegat

-Went 5-for-5 on extra points in the Bengals’ 35-22 win over Lakewood.

 

 

CLASS D NORTH

Offense (shared)

Liam Brosnan, Sr., RB, Point Beach

-Rushed for a career-high 217 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries and ran for a 2-pt conversion to lead the Garnet Gulls to a 28-14 win over New Egypt that clinched a spot in the NJSIAA playoffs.

 

Andrei Matthews, Sr., WR, Keyport

-Caught six passes for 97 yards and went 2-for-2 passing for 61 yards and two touchdowns when the Red Raiders retained the Bayshore Bell by defeating Keansburg, 31-7, for their first win of the season.

 

Defense

Gage Boyle, Fr., LB, Point Beach

-Recorded a team-high 12 tackles and created 6 negative plays with 1 sack and 5 tackles for loss when the Garnet Gulls defeated New Egypt, 28-14, to clinch a state playoff berth.
