Middletown South’s Ryan Willi is the Week 6 Ultimate Tree Service Wrestler of the Week
Every week this winter, Shore Sports Insider will honor standout high school wrestling performances in our Shore Conference Wrestler of the Week poll, presented by Ultimate Tree Service.
Our winner of the Week 6 poll, which encompassed matches between Jan. 13 and Jan. 19, is Middletown South’s Ryan Willi. The Eagles junior 165-pounder went 3-0 for the week with two pins and a clutch 5-3 decision over Wall sophomore returning region qualifier Jeremy Marsella. It was a swing bout that propelled Middletown South to a thrilling 32-31 victory over the Crimson Knights.
Willi backed up that strong week with a third-place finish at the Shore Conference Tournament and is now 20-3 on the season. After placing sixth at the Region 5 Tournament last season, Willi is looking to make a push for a state tournament berth later this year.
This week, Willi and Middletown South have a pair of division matches with Toms River East and Red Bank and a quad meet with Howell, Jackson Liberty, and Bound Brook.
