Freehold Boro 56, Asbury Park 35

Senior Damier Lester scored a team-high 13 points and the Colonials (3-1) coasted to a win over the Blue Bishops (0-2). Seniors Joe Haney and Mike Cush each added nine points for Freehold Boro, with Haney also contributing five rebounds, three assists and six steals.

Senior Max Girandola and junior Tristan Brito each poured in eight points in the win, with Brito also putting up six rebounds and four assists. Tyree Nelson scored a game-high 16 points to lead Asbury Park.

No. 8 Wall 46, Ocean 39

Senior Dan Hennessy checked in with 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots as the Crimson Knights (2-0) fought past the previously-unbeaten Spartans (3-1) on the road. Senior Brian McKenna pitched in 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for Wall, which clung to a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Senior Aidan Saint Louis carried Ocean with a game-high 24 points while also blocking three shots. Freshman Omar Ayyash netted nine points in the loss.

Keansburg 62, Lakewood 51

Senior Javion Thomas-Conklin scored eight of his team-high 16 points in the second quarter and the Titans (1-1) took control with a 16-5 third quarter to pick up a road win over the Piners (0-3).

Senior A’Son Young poured in 14 points, sophomore Taurian Black netted 11 and senior Milan Mraz chipped in eight for Keansburg. Senior Cris Rosario scored a game-high 23 points to lead Lakewood, with sophomore Carlito Anderson adding 15 and sophomore Abel Martinez throwing in 10 in the loss.

Long Branch 57, Toms River South 53

Senior Josh Da Cruz scored 17 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots to lead the Green Wave (2-1) to a win over the Indians (3-1), handing Toms River South its first loss of the season.

Senior Quentin Fisher added 11 points and three assists for Long Branch.

Senior Jacob Myers scored 12 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and handed out three assists for Toms River South. Classmate Shane Gambarony led the Indians with 16 points and senior Brady Gibson also scored 12 points in the loss.

No. 9 Marlboro 55, Red Bank 46

Junior Dylan McEwan scored a game-high 23 points to go with five steals and the Mustangs (2-0) topped the Bucs (2-3). Fellow junior Nolan Gong added 11 points, eight assists and three steals, and senior Ajay Mathews chipped in six points, seven rebounds and five assists for Marlboro.

Junior Justin Valentino scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and swiped four steals to lead Red Bank.

Colts Neck 46, St. Rose 37

Senior Liam Collura scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the third quarter to lead a balanced attack and the Cougars (1-1) clawed past the Purple Roses (0-4) for their first win of the season.

Senior Dillon Younger added 12 points and went 6-for-12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter during Colts Neck’s close-out effort. Sophomore Nate Sloane also chipped in 10 points in the win.

Senior O’Rien Campbell scored a game-high 18 points to lead St. Rose, with classmate Tyler Cameron netting 11 in the loss.

Brick Memorial 54, Matawan 38

Sophomore Luka Begashvili scored 15 points and senior Sean Collins chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead the Mustangs (3-1) over the Huskies (1-3).

Senior Colin Reitmann scored 13 points and classmate Trevor Cole added 10 to lead Matawan.

Monmouth 48, Brick 38

Junior Logan Conrade scored 15 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocks and the Falcons (3-0) clawed past the Green Dragons (0-3) for their third straight win to open the season.

Senior Jaylin Reeves added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists and classmate Judah Uter pitched in 11 points for Monmouth. Jamel Pitts scored 14 points and fellow junior Sean Nausedas added 12 to lead Brick.

No. 2 Manasquan 49, St. John Vianney 29

Senior Jack O’Reilly scored a game-high 15 points and the Warriors (1-2) shut down the Lancers (0-3) for their first win of the season. Sophomore Noah Matuch added 11 points, while sophomores Sean Bilodeau and Luke Winn threw in nine points each for Manasquan.

Junior Nicky Mejia led St. John Vianney with nine points.

Raritan 60, Manchester 42

Junior Eric Berg poured 10 of his in 14 points in the third quarter and senior Ian Mullan scored all 13 of his points in the second half as the Rockets (2-1) broke open a one-point game at halftime to run away with a win over the Hawks (1-3).

Sophomore Mario Diamantis sank 11 points for Raritan, which outscored Manchester, 34-17, after halftime. Sophomore Justin Roberts scored a game-high 15 points to lead Manchester and senior Malik Pharmes added 10 in the loss. Junior Sam Spaziano also pulled down 13 rebounds in the loss.

Middletown South 66, Middletown North 51

Freshman Ryan Gannon continued a hot start to his high-school career with a team-high 17 points and fellow freshman Evan Wells went for 15 to lead the Eagles (3-0) to a win over the crosstown rival Lions (0-3). Gannon is averaging 21.3 points through the first three games of his freshman year.

Senior Beckett Oliver contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Middletown South in helping the Eagles remain perfect to start the season.

Junior Nate Tyburczy scored a game-high 20 points to lead Middletown North, with freshman Nick DiGiovanni also making his mark with 11 points in the loss.

Toms River North 67, Donovan Catholic 57

Senior Bryce Kazanowsky posted 23 points and 13 rebounds, including 10 points in the fourth quarter to help the Mariners (2-2) finished off the Griffins (1-1) after taking a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Jake Greenberg pitched in 17 points and four assists and junior Jackson Sias netted 13 points while blocking four shots for Toms River North. Junior Logan Brill also pulled down 10 rebounds to go with four points in the win.

Freshmen Gerard Gallo and Eric Sulkowski combined for 30 points to lead Donovan Catholic, with Gallo scoring 16 and Sulkowski adding 14. Senior Pat Gallo also threw in 11 points for the Griffins.

Barnegat 43, Toms River East 40

Junior Anthony Dringus led a balanced attack with 11 points and the Bengals (2-1) rallied from a 12-point first-quarter deficit and a three-point hole heading into the fourth to hand the Raiders (2-1) their first loss of the season.

Freshman Myles Joseph and senior Donovan Paul each pitched in 10 points and freshman Chancellor Joseph contributed nine points for Barnegat, which allowed Toms River East 20 points in the first quarter, then held the Raiders to 20 points in the final three quarters combined.

Sophomore Brady Gillen scored a game-high 18 points to lead Toms River East.

Central 56, Lacey 33

Senior Elijah Reeder, sophomore Derek Roth and juniors Cijer Yates and Tyler Woermer all scored 10 points apiece and the Golden Eagles (2-0) rode that balanced scoring effort and a strong defensive showing to a rivalry win over the Lions (0-5).

Reeder controlled the paint with 11 rebounds and blocked five shots, while Roth, Yates and Woermer each handed out four assists. Roth and Yates led the defense effort with a combined 12 steals — seven for Roth and five for Yates.

Junior Kenny Monica led Lacey with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Non-Conference

Keyport 48, Highland Park 44

Senior Kai Arrington scored a game-high 30 points to carry the Red Raiders (2-1) to a road win over the Owls (2-2).

New Egypt 60, Florence 53

Senior Nolan Arnold pumped in a game-high 29 points and the Warriors (3-1) separated themselves with a 22-14 fourth quarter that proved the difference in a win over the Flashes (1-2). Senior Clyde Ferris scored 15 points and junior Paul Kennedy added eight for New Egypt.

Henry Hudson 77, Calvary Christian 51

Junior JoJo Newell scored 10 of his game-high 29 points in the second quarter and the Admirals (1-2) sailed to a win over Calvary Christian (1-4) for their first victory of the season. Senior Billy Quinn chipped in 18 points and sophomore Damien Doherty netted eight for Henry Hudson.

Point Beach 61, Woodbury 36

Senior Jacob Edgecomb struck for 20 points and the Garnet Gulls (4-0) secured a convincing win over the Thundering Herd (3-2), the reigning NJSIAA South Jersey Group I champions. Edgecomb scored 12 of his points in the first half, during which Point Beach raced out to a 32-12 lead before reaching halftime.

Junior George Breckenridge led a balanced supporting cast with 10 points, while junior Tyler Preston and senior Elijah Ives each chipped in eight for Point Beach.

Pinelands 57, Hammonton 44

Junior Chris Husni led three Pinelands players in double-figure scoring with 18 points and senior Josh Barongo turned in a double-double to lead the Wildcats (3-1) over the Blue Devils (1-2).

Barongo scored 10 points while hauling in 13 rebounds, while junior Cayden Lucas netted 14 points for Pinelands. Junior Donny Johnston also threw in eight points in the win.
