(4) Wall 40, (1) Manasquan 20

Senior Liam Killea scored a game-high 18 points and the Crimson Knights (4-0) routed the Warriors (2-3) with a suffocating defensive effort that limited Manasquan to four points in the first half and zero in the first 13:48 of the game.

The win is Wall’s first over Manasquan since at least the 2006-7 season and is the first for the Crimson Knights during Andrew Bilodeau’s tenure as Manasquan head coach, which began in 2008-09. Manasquan was 23-0 vs. Wall under Bilodeau prior to Sunday.

Wall began the game on a 21-0 run that finally ended on a pair of free throws by sophomore Sean Bilodeau. Manasquan did not convert a field goal attempt until the one-minute mark of the second quarter and shot 1-for-21 from the field during the first half.

Manasquan pulled within 25-14 with 2:25 left in the third quarter, but Wall responded with seven straight points out of a timeout: a layup by junior Donovan Buist, a drive to the basket by senior Brian McKenna and a three-pointer by Killea.

McKenna finished with 10 points and eight rebounds and senior Joey Ambrozy set the tone by hitting two three-pointers in the first three minutes to account for his six points. Ambrozy also grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Bilodeau lead Manasquan with seven points, including 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

(3) Freehold Twp. 60, (2) Jackson 36

Junior Jake Schultzel scored all of his game-high 17 points after the first quarter to go with 10 rebounds and the Patriots (4-1) shook off a slow start to roll over the Jaguars (5-1), sending them to the Ruhnke Bracket championship game Tuesday vs. Wall at 7 p.m.

Jackson raced out to a 12-4 lead through one quarter before Freehold Township outscored the Jaguars, 56-24 the rest of the way, including 38-11 between the second and third quarters.

Senior Cole Gerigk added 10 points, seven points and five assists for Freehold Township and senior Dakota Lasater (five points) drew the defensive assignment against Jackson senior George Boley and held him to three points on 1-for-13 shooting from the field.

Senior Yaseer Johnson led Jackson with 13 points.

(10) Donovan Catholic 54, (11) Toms River North 51

Junior Gabe Feliciano hit a game-tying three-pointer with under a minute to go, then went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 38 seconds to deliver the Griffins (3-1) the deciding points in a semifinal win over the Mariners (3-3).

Feliciano finished with a team-high 13 points, while freshman Gerard Gallo added 11 points and eight rebounds for Donovan Catholic, which scored the final eight points of the game. Senior Pat Gallo began the run with a baseline reverse that cut Toms River North’s lead to 51-48.

Freshman Eric Sulkowski pitched in nine points for Donovan Catholic, which will play in Tuesday’s Gepp Bracket championship game Tuesday, 5 p.m. at RWJBarnabas Health Arena.

Sophomore Jake Greenberg scored a game-high 21 points to lead Toms River North and hit a tie-breaking three-pointer with five minutes left to give Toms River North a 49-46 lead. Senior Jayden Thomas also poured in 11 points for the Mariners.

(13) Toms River East 56, (9) Colts Neck 52

Sophomore Brady Gillen scored a team-high 24 points, including a tie-breaking three-pointer with 1:30 left that sent the Raiders (4-1) on their way to a semifinal win over the reigning Group III champion Cougars (2-2).

Gillen’s long three gave Toms River East a 53-50 lead, with Colts Neck sophomore Nate Sloane answering with a drive to the basket to pull Colts Neck within 53-52 with 1:21 left. Senior Shamus O’Grady hit 1-of-2 free throws to extend the lead and Gillen stole the ball on the ensuing Colts Neck possession before hitting a pair of free throws with 4.5 seconds left to ice the game.

Sophomore Tommy Intintola added 18 points and six rebounds for Toms River East, including 11 points in the second half. Sloane scored a game-high 27 points to go with seven rebounds for Colts Neck, while senior Liam Collura added 11 points in the loss.

 

Butch Kowal Classic

At Rahway

Matawan 42, Carteret 35

Junior Trevor Cole poured in 20 points while hauling in six rebounds to lead the Huskies (2-4) to a win over the Ramblers (3-3). Junior Christian Baskerville added nine points and senior Colin Reitmann handed out six assists and grabbed three steals to go with his four points for Matawan.

No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 60, Westfield 54

Senior Luke Cruz went for 27 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots and the Bulldogs (5-0) topped the Blue Devils (2-4) to push Rumson to 2-0 at the Butch Kowal Classic.

Senior Luke Lydon netted 14 points to go with three assists and led a defensive effort that held Max MacEacheron to 10 points one game after MacEacheron scored 40 in a win over Matawan. Junior Casey Moore chipped in seven points, five rebounds and eight assists and senior Blake Ahmann inhaled 16 rebounds for Rumson to go with five points, three assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

No. 1 CBA 65, ABF Academy (Fla.) 62

Sophomore Izayah Cooper hit a go-ahead three-pointer in the final 30 seconds and junior David Buley capped a 19-point outing with a baseline layup with three seconds to go to put away a win for the Colts (5-1) over ABF one day after suffering their first loss of the season.

Buley scored 10 of his points in the second quarter, while sophomore Oymere Rene scored all 10 of his points in the second half. Cooper finished with nine points.
